I also feel that things like touch sensitive buttons on the dash and such while cool, are just one more thing to break and are a disaster waiting to happen.
I have to say I HATED this vehicle when I saw it as I was a fan of the Explorer since it came out. I just didn't see it as a fitting replacement. It has grown on me but I do think they should have came out with this as a separate model and axed the Flex.
my mom had a 2009 Eddie Bauer then traded that for a 2011 Chevy Traverse ltz which i love both especially the ford, but i think she is going to trade the traverse in for the explorer now and idk it looks almost the same and i dont like the interior of the new explorer
Despite what people say, I like the new Explorer. Great family vehicle and i think it's good looking as well. I think the new Durango is awkward looking myself, but it has also turned into a street only family hauler.
Ford really has made the Explorer name useless. People if your going to buy a Ford that can carry 7 people, and look good while doing it buy the Expedition.
@iAaronHD A opinion is a opinion and I can respect that (unlike some people) I like the 4Runner more, it's more aggressive and has a lot more offroad capability. Plus is RWD/4WD and now FWD or AWD. And the Entune system blow myfordtouch out of the water. You can have your opinion and I will have mine.
@AdamAus85 Actually its the other way round, you dont if you follow top gear and agree with their false accusations and biased opinions. I spot AT LEAST one mistake each episode they make when talking about cars. Ill give you that ive only watch 1 episode of top gear USA so i shouldn't of based it on that but the one i watched they knew what they were talking about and had good knowledge of the cars (episode with the road master)
@AdamAus85 Top Gear has nothing to do with it. Land Rover hasn't been owned by Ford in ages and the Explorer is essentially a cross-over now, and as one it appears to be a good one. The reviews certainly agree.
This would have to be my favorite SUV. It's very stylish and modern, but yet still looks rugged. I wish Ford Australia would sell this here in Australia.
the automotive conservatives in this country are apparantly a dieing breed. soon the country will be one giant city with a coffee shop on every street corner.
i love the new explorer :) it has sleek and elegant style.. ive seen the red one around.. the ONLY car in red that i actually like :P although my favorite colors are the white and blue one :) id certainly buy this without looking other cars. ford ftw :)
Ford, you have outdone yourself this time, we are going to buy a 2012 Ford Focus SEL and a 2012 Ford Explorer EcoBoost. Thank you for everything you have done.
Extremely nice truck! But can u turn off the beeps on the radio??? That would annoy me SO MUCH after awhile! Whenever I get a new cellphone or somethin, I ALWAYS turn off the keytone sounds.
The Ford Explorer was one of a very select few crossovers/SUVs that I could fit my 6' 0" 260lb frame comfortably into the third seat. Others were the Dodge Durango and the Chevy Traverse/GMC Acadia/Buick Enclave. Anything else was tight.
I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition. I'm ashamed of what it has become now. I want an SUV not a crossover. Why would they give it a crossover look when they have the ford edge? C'mon I'm so tired of the feminine looking cars dominating the market, it's pretty annoying. I don't want to have to buy a big Expedition for the SUV ruggedness.
@iAaronHD I agree, if they change their trucks after the Explorer's design like they've done in the past, the F-150 may stop being the best selling one in the US....
@iAaronHD Buy one before they mess it up! I'm a Dodge man myself, partially because they aren't turning their entire lineup into extremely similar designs. This new explorer isn't even an SUV anymore, considering the lack of V8 and default front wheel drive. What you said about the Edge is right. I know someone who has an Edge and this is exactly the same, maybe with a longer wheel base.
@desertfox2020 The problem with ford is their more concerned with pretty than they are anything else. But see the new Explorer will sell because to the average consumer will look at the new Explorer as a big luxury upgrade just because of the interior with a fancy difficult to control nav system.
@iAaronHD Another thing that makes me mad. I go get in my '99 Ram. The radio works, the remote start even still works. There are no touch screens, but there doesn't need to be. All the technology they are putting in cars these days, will not work forever. A turning key, radio, starter, and engine? Those can last as long as they're maintained. All of that plus a best buy's worth of electronics gear won't last. Electronics wear out. Newer cars aren't going to last much more than 10 years IMO
@iAaronHD Indeed. On that subject, everyone I know makes about what I do a year, but they all have brand new cars and trucks. How the hell does that work? I sure as hell can't afford anything newer than what I have. Although at this point I'm pretty glad I have a pre-2000 vehicle, they seem to be more reliable. If I can't afford to replace it until it breaks in an unfixable way, then its best that it lasts as long as possible. 270,000 miles and counting....
@iAaronHD - Either Ford wasn't designing their cars well, or the SUV wasn't selling. Now I liked the 2010 model SUV Explorer, but it just wasn't selling. What probably turned people off was the gas millage.
It's pretty sad that a guy needs a certain look of a car to feel like a man. I prefer to get this than the Hundais that or Kia that my wife wants me to get. This looks like a guys car if you ask me. I want it....the 2012 edition of course.
@IamLopan It has nothing to do with me "feeling like a man". I want a SUV that I can customize; put a custom air intake kit, and custom exhaust system and have it roar to life. Not a crossover that's called an SUV. This is my opinion. Also I don't care to compare it to Hundais or Kias because I don't care much for their vehicles. But hey this is my opinion, to each his own. Good luck on getting your 2012 explorer.
That's cool man. Yes, am still considering getting this but now I'm kinda in love with the new Jeep Grand Cherokees. I guess more research in needed before I go in and buy I guess.
@iAaronHD according to the consumers people don't want those big suv's anymore because of high gas consumption so ford is trying to increase efficiency mileage by cutting down the size
@iAaronHD The only rugged smaller SUV left is the Toyota 4Runner. It still uses a traditionally fully boxed latter style frame with a true 4x4 system. I think Chevy is bringing the Blazer back too.
@Thecarguy1254 It would be fuckin' sweet if Chevy brought the blazer back. And don't get me wrong I love the 2010 explorer it's fuckin sweet. But man I probably wouldn't be so upset with this explorer if they didn't make it look so painfully similar to the damn ford edge.
@iAaronHD I heard that they were thinking about a new small Blazer... probably based off of the Colorado like the Hummer H3 was. But dont get me wrong the new Explorer is an amazing CUV in it's own rights but it is too much like the Taurus it is based off of. Hell the Taurus' side body lines are still on the Explorer. Come on Ford, cant you change that atleast? lol
It is nice but to me it seems like a bigger Ford Edge, I think that the explorer has lost its spirit as a tough SUV with good ground clearance and better off-road abilities, but maybe that's what all SUV's are turned into: bigger cars with AWD rather than off-roaders... What a shame
wish our closest Ford dealer had that selection... they have ONE Focus and ONE Fiesta, TWO Taurus, TWO Exlporers, about 30 F150s, ONE Edge, THREE Mustangs, 40 Rangers and about 50 Escapes.
@2004YukonXLGuy I'm trying to wrap my arms around how you can call what the Explorer has turned into, "sad". First off, the majority of people really don't need 4WD. Second, I'd bet house money that this new Explorer appeals to a much broader consumer base of than Explorers of years past.
No biggy. This one is like mine but I have the charcoal inners no moon. To bad they dont show her @ night!
The audio is really nice, not like my carver home but better than most others. I've used the blue tooth for phone since it illegal to use cell/smart phones here on the roads.
I get about 22 around town, freeway/city mixed, 26+ on road. It WILL squeel the tires!! Tou can use the manual tranny to control gears for hills and climb. Super quiet!
What if you're in some kind of emergency crash and you can't turn on your hazards because it's a fucking touch button?! That's goofy, too much technology.
i guess the people that experienced the older explorers don't like the modern approach of the new models, while newcomers to the explorer nameplate like it. i think its a great suv, but its a tough choice between this and the flex
It's not going to well, but you really don't mean to ask that question do you lolol :o) Hmm, not to bad, looks a bit cheap, especially that american grill, but overall, not too bad :o)
That's not a car. It's a home. Only thing I don't like with it is that it is a 2WD SVU. Why on earth would you want a 2WD SVU? Might as well buy an estate. :/
I thought the explorer had that dial thingy where u can set the vehicle to different terrain to drive on such as sand, snow and gravel etc. I guess its either an option or not equipped in the XLT models.
@loolwow i ain't talking about the 40s and 50s. its 2011, and the only ones who drive manual is the stupid civic drivers. and you are even driving automatic when you are driving up for the driver licence! not even touching a manual, so apparently i know best...
@Dualshock21 Actually you have the option of driving a manual or automatic during drivers ed but it costs 20/40 dollars more for the teachers to teach you how to drive a manual. and you can drive your vehicle auto/manual during your drivers test.
@rko619wrestlingfan That reminds me of my Grandfather getting pissed when he couldn't find a station wagon with a three on the tree. He didn't want a damn automatic. He was not impressed either.
a 2011 honda pilot or odyssey will be nice, i do remember you did a 2004 odyssey, but that applies to every odyssey before 2011, the 2011 odyssey is way different..
PLEASE do an in depth tour of the 2012 GMC Yukon Denali! :-(

zelamer 7 months ago
@zelamer and by "SVU" I mean SUV, of course....
zelamer 7 months ago
@zelamer I agree.

It's a nice truck but I do miss the classic door chime and the look of the explorer from like 1993 which is what my parents have
Trikster1of4 7 months ago
I thought the explorer had that dial thingy where u can set the vehicle to different terrain to drive on such as sand, snow and gravel etc. I guess its either an option or not equipped in the XLT models.
Teeeshmedia 7 months ago
@Teeeshmedia maybe it's because this is a 2WD version

fordtruck39 7 months ago
Didn't like it what so ever. And why do you Americans only drive automatic?
Dualshock21 7 months ago
@Dualshock21 because we feel like it!
0326mata 7 months ago
@0326mata haha, most of you people cant even drive a manual transmission car, hahaha
Dualshock21 7 months ago
@Dualshock21 hmm i guess thats why all the cars in the 40's 50's 60's where mostly manual transmission, But then again i suppose you know best.
Thanks for the information about my own country.
loolwow 7 months ago
@loolwow i ain't talking about the 40s and 50s. its 2011, and the only ones who drive manual is the stupid civic drivers. and you are even driving automatic when you are driving up for the driver licence! not even touching a manual, so apparently i know best...
Dualshock21 7 months ago
@Dualshock21 Actually you have the option of driving a manual or automatic during drivers ed but it costs 20/40 dollars more for the teachers to teach you how to drive a manual. and you can drive your vehicle auto/manual during your drivers test.
loolwow 7 months ago
@loolwow Exactly. Then the answer is quite obvious.

so this is what the Explorer has evovled into? dam not impressed ugly on top of that all the touch screen stuff i would just want a basic radio.
rko619wrestlingfan 7 months ago 12
@rko619wrestlingfan 2011 Jeep Wranglers are still made basic and have simple radios.
ATLOffroad 7 months ago
@rko619wrestlingfan
Base and XLT models come standard with a basic Radio/media player with physical buttons
luisinhoens90 7 months ago
@rko619wrestlingfan That reminds me of my Grandfather getting pissed when he couldn't find a station wagon with a three on the tree. He didn't want a damn automatic. He was not impressed either.
EastCoastMarc 7 months ago
@rko619wrestlingfan Ha, you must work for GM...what the Explorer has evolved into is miles ahead of anything else in it's class.
thephotomatt 7 months ago
@thephotomatt not even lol you wish.
I love the Ford Crown Victoria my comment has 11 thumbs up so people must agree with me does that mean they work for GM too?

a 2011 honda pilot or odyssey will be nice, i do remember you did a 2004 odyssey, but that applies to every odyssey before 2011, the 2011 odyssey is way different..
