The lack of serotonin theory is just a theory. My doctor (psychologist) told me it hasn't been proven. He said there are numerous other things that go on that contribute to a depression.I hfelt homicidal on prozac.I felt I was going mad.I quit it and the drug left my body I felt those thoughts, feelings and urges go away.I feel thankful that depression is all I have.
That's what psychiatrists often do - they keep increasing the dose if the drug is "not working"..........based on my opin formed from much have learned abt psych drgs & from many ppl know that have taken them, when the drugs cause adverse effects - psychs treat it as if it's the patient's "mental prob" is causing the worse symptoms, not the drug & psychs love to increase doses!!
Antidepressants/ psych drugs = unable to funciton, confusion, excessive weight gain, personality change - for the worse, unable to think clearly - all in the name of "helping" alleged "depression" or "mental Problems" ........the truth is in most cases it's for profit for psychs, docs & Big Pharma & probably social workers 2 who send many people to these idiots!
Antidepressants have caused columbine and vt massacre!
". Doctors are giving these drugs to patients who dont really need them without resorting to alternatives FIRST. Of course the drugs serve a wonderfulg purpose, but the key: for patients whom actually NEED the drug, and that is where doctors hav failed us." 100% true
Sleep apnea can cause depression and is linked to Bipolar disorder.. I felt tired, depressed and with lack of concentration and was diagnosed first with depression and after a induced Hipermania with bipolar disorder. I read that Prozac can induce Hipermania in healthy people so i´m not sure if I am really bipolar. After been diagnosed with sleep apnea I started using a CPAP and now I am back to life with no signs of depression or bipolar disorder.
BEFORE taking medication for anxiety or panic attacks, TRY NATURAL ways, like exercising everyday for 1 hour, eat healthy-nutrition is very important- B-vitamins, C vitamin, calcium and magnesium, most of ALL understanding your condition 100%, THERAPY itself is VERY HELPFUL! always do whats natural first.
I am about to graduate with a Political Science degree and after I graduate I would like to work for an organization against antidepressants. Anyone know of any?
@matizzle51 You could try CCHR. They are against many of these dangerous psychiatric medications and tortures that are claimed to 'cure' patients, which of course they don't. Psychiatry (and Big-Pharma meds) have not cured a single person. The medical model is used to claim a 'chemical imbalance', but no such thing exists. It's a lie. Although one certainly occurs after taking these medications.
i have been off prozac for 2 months, and came off extremely slowly, so it should be out of my symptom...
BUT, i came off in the first place because it made me feel 'lifeless' , dead, and generally not alive, i hate feeling like a shell, i have no sex drive or emotions, its getting better, but im scared i will never be TOTALLY better due to the fact it might be with me forever, anybody feel the same or know any info? because i just feel theres no point in living if i dont feel alive....
what happens when you refuse to give your child these drugs after he nearly died from a reaction to them?
The Doctor who prescribes them picks up the phone, and dials the digits to CPS, who then Kidnaps ALL your kids and TERMINATES your rights--All because you have the Cajones to stand up to them and try to PROTECT your children.
Patients are the PREY of these PREDATORS--do not DARE to judge them unless you have walked in their Shoes.
i'm really sorry to hear this, i was on prozac and got serotonin poisening, i should've never asked for them, is this really how it works in your country ?
I have a friend who uses her "bipolar disorder" as an excuse to be lazy, late, inconsiderate, selfish, rude, demanding and irresponsible with money, and blames everyone else for what's wrong with her life. If that's something a pill can cure I'll eat my hat. It's a moral issue. Personally, I call what she does "sin" and the only cure is taking personal responsibility before God and man.
I think you need to get your head out of the bible and live in the real world. I believe in God too but i don't blame people who didn't ask for a mental disorder and think that they are a sinner... That is the very definition of Bipolar Disorder that you are casting the stone at her.
What we all do can be sinful and I got your point but the point I was trying to make is that I think you sound gudgemental and maybe don't understand how hard it is to have a mental disorder. Maybe you should tell her how much you and God loves her and just be there for her and that could help her have some light in her life...
@deadeyestare It's not my intention to be judgemental - to the contrary - people just need loving support and good advice for their problems - we got away from providing these when they started telling us a pill would "cure" us.
A man brought a woman before Christ and said "this woman has been caught in adultury, what would you have us do?" Christ wrote something on the ground, looked up and said, "he who is without sin should cast the 1st stone" and everybady left. He further went on to say, "Woman, where are those thine accusors, has no man condemed thee?" With tears in her eye's she looked at him and said, "no man, Lord." "Then neither do I, go and sin no more."
Are you not Christ like that you would condem this woman when she has no control over what happens with her mind? Look up the difinition of bi-polar and have compassion if you really are her friend.
I think that is the point ... Doctors are giving these drugs to patients who dont really need them without resorting to alternatives FIRST. Of course the drugs serve a wonderfulg purpose, but the key: for patients whom actually NEED the drug, and that is where doctors hav failed us.
Bull, no one needs them nor should take them. There are countless unpublished studies and research reports, that wre submitted to the FDA years ago and they clearly stated that the effects of antidepressants is not better than that of a given placebo!!! Fisrt these drug companies stumble over a substance and then they invent the desease for it. If you'd put everyone that's depressed on a tropical island for six moths, I bet you their sadness would disappear.....
Why do people who havn't even tried getting councilling or therapy turn to drugs first. And the guy without any history of 'Mental Illness' wtf, if he thinks he needs mind altering drugs, he obviously does have some sort of mental illness, or is just an idiot who thinks drugs fix everything.
I have been on SSRI's and SNRI's, only after trying everything else doc's could think of, and yes, i was seriously depressed, suicide attepmt and all.
this is kind of BS its the media blowing drug use out of proportion because its somthing people will listen to, ok yes it causes suicidle thoguhts in people non depressed but this can make a world of difference in sombody who is and this is their last hope
thank you for the information- I was diagnosed "bi-polar" and went on a "mood stabelizer"- then last summer I stopped it because it took away my concentration and creativity- I am now weaning from Wellbutrin- I was a lucky one and was helped as I took it as an adult- but now am weaning- thank you for this information- just look up the origin and defination of the word "stigma" and you will see how They really view Us!- The System itself is still in the Stone Ages
It's not just children and teens! That's BS. Plenty of documentation on adults going off the deep end. I had an MD give me Prozac. I had work related stress. Wanted an excuse for 3 days off and a tranquilizer to stop the anxiety. How harmful would that have been - really??? After one week, I could have just as well been on LSD. I think LSD would have been a better trip than the Prozac!
if there were more accountability........like doctors and drug companies paying the price for the damage......our nation wouldn't be in this kind of peril. everyone needs to remember....our species has survived many thousands of centuries without all these new and dangerous drugs. Big Pharma is all about the $.
acastle29, you hit it right on the head. Patients have to be more proactive and ask hard questions, like: If this works, how long before I get the full benefit? And if the specified time passes and you don't feel better, HOUND your doctor and go through the same process with another drug. This is how my doctor and I found what works for me.

heres some advice for free.
stop taking any sort of anti depressant. they will ruin your health in the long run.
start eating only fruit veg and organic cooking. no chocolate or any crap at all.
join a self defense class and get fit.
trust me its the only way to beat depression.
