Holy shit I remember this it was on cartoon network along with Robot Carnival, Vampire Hunter D it was on something called Saturday Japanime in the 90s
Does Bakshi's American Pop and Fire and Ice fall in uncanny valley territory since they are rotoscopic animation? What about Robert Zemeckis's stuff or Avatar?
What did you think of Final Fantasy The Spirits Within? and have you seen the new stills for the movie TinTin? they look like replicates of cartoon character humanoids instead of looking like real life humans. What did you think of the new Planet of the Apes movie's Mocap on the chimp? there is no dead eye in it
I recall when this was aired on the Cartoon Network way back in the 90's. It actually freaked me out at the time-anime seemed so weird and even scary. Today, I recognize how tame this is by comparison. But still, the WWII references are rather blatant of the Japanese.
I can't recall where I originally saw this movie but I know it had to have been over 15 years ago. All I could remember about the movie was humans, cartoon talking roaches and a new girlfriend. I cannot believe I found this movie after all this time.
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS MOVIE A LONG TIME...LIKE U STATED I SEEN IT IN THE 90'S ON TNT, NO ONE BELIEVED ME WHEN I USE TO ASK AROUND ABOUT THIS FILM.....
I remember a movie or a short movie that I watched on Cartoon Network that really impressed me 15 years ago or more, it was about these ants (looked like ants to me) they were so realistic but you could tell it was a cartoon...And I have been looking for it ever since, I thoought this one was it for sure since I read in wikipedia that this was showned on Cartoon Network, but now that I see the "ants" which are cockroaches and very cartoony, I can see it's not it, can someone enlighten me?
@Axtlar , one very funny movie from that time (1996) was Joe's Apartment, not with ants but cockroaches too (actually, that movie was inspired by this japanese one), with very realistic cockroaches that could talk, sing and dance.
@Axtlar OMG.. me too! I actually recorded it the night they showed it ... err to be accurate I think I saw it around 3am in my time zone.. I have it on VHS somewhere.. but didn't think to write down the title & I no longer own a VHS player.. I've been trying to find out what it was.. was it CGI?? or stopaction..?? i remember it being nighttime in the movie alot.. ugh.. making me crazy
@Juxta5 Finally someone who knows what I'm talking about!! Is that why you came to this video too? you need to find that VHS and play it at a friend's house or something 'cause it's been making me crazy too! I wanna know what it is so I can watch it. and I am not sure what it was, I think it was cartoons, you know?? and you are right, it was dark most of the time, I remember that very good. :}
@keloid123 No, it's not Antz, it's not the Ant Bully! come one, it's from the early 90's and it's very obscure as I have found nothing about it on the internet, and they are not anthropomorphical, they look real, it was shown on Cartoon Newtork....It's not Gallavants, either. SOMEONE HELP MEEE!!!
@Axtlar Might've been a Canadian short aired on Cartoon Network's Sunday late-night showcase, "O Canada", back in the late '90's. There was always offbeat shorts airing on that show.
@SuperAdventures I know O Canada and the thing is, those ant did not look anything like the style O Canada has, again, these ants looked real and it was visually impressive, it's hard to describe...Hope I find it someday to let you all know what I was talking about,.
omg your description is CORRECT! I remember this from sometime in the 90's along with Robot Carnival! The talkin poo scene is still in my head. I just NOW decided to track this movie down based on that scene.
@MonoAzul Agreed. He will be miss. Despite people's opinions on the whole 'Macross Frontier can't come to the US because of legal issues', he was the one who helped introduced people to Robotech. And that helped introduce them to Macross.
And he did write for Bleach's English Translation, which I liked until the fillers took complete control.
Wow, amazing! This and "Robot Carnival" have been out of print in the U.S for so long that they're quite hard to come by!
When Cartoon Network paired this alongside the aforementioned "Robot Carnival" and "Vampire Hunter D" in their 1995 showcase, they aired this movie last, around 4AM. Obviously as a kid I could'nt stay up that late even if I wanted to, so I don't recall seeing this movie.
I don't see how this movie has anything to do with Japan's bad international relations in the 80's.

Johnlindsey289 6 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 Avatar looked decent.
Haven't watched the entire film though, and not planning to.

What do you think of the dead eye look?
Johnlindsey289 6 months ago
@Johnlindsey289 Something traditional animation (good one) had been avoiding for most of its history.
