Having a fan collection will be so handy when it comes time for Nate go off to college. When I took a tour of the dorms at my college before going off to school, they recommended that I take a fan up, as the freshmen dorms are not air-conditioned. This was easily taken care of by choosing from my fan collection, which I have obtained throughout my preschool and elementary school years.
Seeing this video makes me nostalgic. I was about his age when I started my obsession with fans & about 4 when I started fixing them. This young boy will be incredibly mechanically inclined when he gets older. Back in '88, I was looked upon as weird because I had this obsession but it turned out to be a great thing as I've literally found & fixed quite a few fans! LOL!
one important thing to teach your son is also to take good care of the fans so when he grows up, he still has his first few fans! one more thing, also teach him how to clean and polish the fans so it looks shiny!
you should also encourage him to collect vintage fans. these fans are made to last a lifetime! try flea markets, craigslist and ebay. also all the vintage fans in the trash piles ARE FUNCTIONAL, so also add those too!
I can't tell you how happy we are with this video, the videos from Reese and Thomas too! My son, Alden, is 2 and LOVES fans, turbines, and windmills. We found these videos while google searching for more fans to look at. It is nice to know that there are more little boys just like Alden who love fans. The obsession can get tedious, but what can you do? I did notice that Reese and Nate have globes -- Alden also loves his globe. I wonder if it is somehow connected?
My son is exactly like this, and he loves globes too. I thought he was the only one. Have you ever gotten an explanation from a doctor or anything? Mine says its not a big deal, but you're right it does get tedious.
Reece found your video while we were searching for box fans, air conditioners and wind turbines and wanted to to show his fans. It was fun to see another child Reece's age with the same obsession...just wish I understood it (but I do support it) :)
I noticed that Nate has a space heater sitting on the bed in this video. I really do not think it is a good idea to allow a kid that age to have a space heater. I asked my mother for a space heater for Christmas one year, and she said no because they are not really safe.
Nate is learning that lesson the hard way! We've had 2 fatalities so far. He loves seeing at which point the fan will turn on in relation to how bright the light is that is also on the dimmer. He's a scientist, what can I say?!
Nate earned a tower fan for using the potty! However, it doesn't have a remote. He, of course, has been asking for one with a remote. He's up to 16 or so fans now in his room. We're running out of room!
i think it would be cool if you got him into older vintage fans.i didn't start collecting until a couple years ago because my parents didn't wnt to crowd the house with them.
He has a really cool Eskimo fan that we had to put away. He put his fingers into the blades one too many times. Santa brought it for him and he LOVED it. But, safety first!!
Someday I am sure that he will begin to become interested in vintage fans, he'll get a really cool collection if he does.

Yup. He has a new one now though...and two newly installed ceiling fans with remotes. He's in heaven! He's almost 5 now and still loves his fans!

We're expecting him to be an engineer. He's 4 now, and still collects fans and loves them.

Great to know. We know it's quirky, but we know he's going to be very handy around the house sometime soon!

I like his collection. When he gets older, you should surprise him with a vintage fan.

The space heater is always unplugged when unattended. They are VERY dangerous!

You really should not be plugging fans into a dimmer; it could damage the motor.
