  • You CAN solder to stainless steel, all that is required is a good acid etch first. If you want to get real fancy you can use silver solder. Twisting the wires and then dipping them in plasti dip is really not a great way to deal with the corrosion that will occur. Eventually the liquid will work it's way under that coating, problem is because you covered it with plasti dip you won't be able to see the corrosion occurring until your "array" drops into the bottom of your solution.

  • So he's using this to filter water through the steel array, use electrolysis in the array, and make hydrogen right? Won't the oxygen be mixed in with it? Also, is this like a catalyst ina fuel cell?

  • Why dont you just not submerge the wires, Put the wires on the same end and have them sticking out of the water

  • Good conductor without corrosion = GOLD!

  • The pressure gage faces away from him when he turns it on. Maybe he wants the camera man to shout if he see it build.

  • how do you separate the hydrogen from the oxygen ?

  • Does the water becomes hot?

  • @bernuga The more amps you draw, the hotter the water gets.

  • we need video number

  • Yep its the dude from the colony

  • isnt this the guy from the colony ?

  • wasn't this the guy in colony???

  • nice job!

  • please number this videos !!!!!!! i can't find the order

  • omg 138622 videos

  • That is a combination of fuel (H2) and Oxygen is very dangerous (very explosive, needs only 20 micro joule of spark to create an explosion ,Wikipedia: "oxyhydrogen", It's more dangerous than the caustic soda you are telling the kids to avoid earlier. My point here is: to be more safe, you need to separate the gases from a well shape electrolyser, a U-tube container. You collect H2 from one opening and O from the other opening. Ok?

  • your the dude from the colony!!!!

  • Current flows from negative to positive, not what you said.

  • @storkfmny The accepted convention is that while electrons (which have a negative change) flow from negative to positive, current flows from positive to negative. Current is defined as charge per time, and as charge can be both negative or positive, we define current to be the flow of positive charge, independent of the charge carrier (the electrons).

  • Numbers and shorter video description would help a grate deal!

but other wise looking good sofar! :-)

  • Lack of information, link to rest of videos.

  • Haha, season one 'colony' participant.... Reminds me to watch that electric bike wipeout : P

  • Pretty workmanship on your array. The main trouble is that it's built for 2 volts as every plate is 1 gap away from it's ground. This array is built for high amperage and 2 volts.

IF YOU HAD a regulated power supply that put out only 2 volts and higher amps, this array would make sense. For running on an auto's 12 volt system, your array acts as a "short" that would produce a lot of heat and not much gas per waat of electricity.

  • dude, you're making oxyhydrogen. it's pretty damn volatile. not only that, but if you were to store it you would waste 33% of your container space with a gas you can pull out of the environment.

  • Have you tried aluminum? if so how did that work?

  • Another random interesting video with no clue on how to find the NEXT video. Poor and chaotic layout by Utube. Not good...although the video is good. Typical bad user interface with the hated frames.

  • @bobsoriginal1 its expertvillage that fails, not youtube

  • I love your video. I have been messing with hydrogen for 4 years now. Very clear cut and proffessional, two thumbs up. I started using adsense through google to help generate extra income, and it was worth it. powerzap69.

  • dude i was making hydrogen with lye and aluminum i got lye on my skin it is pure pain!!!!

  • You can't just use solder?

  • Well like I said you keep believing that and keep buying gasoline, I am going to get it done even on my limited budget. Then you can not believe me , no prob, but I wont be buying the gas.

  • this guy looks lik the guy frm the colony =D

  • This guy is from the colony

  • Nay sayers hush, go buy what gasoline is left. TO all the inventive people out there great work!! Science knows not what humans are capable of!! HInt, get the hydrogen as close to the intake valve as possible. Hydrogen expands very quiclky into the air, must get as close to the combustion as possible for maximum result. You will be driving away from the oil companies sooner than you think. Hmm set an engine on a stand with a electric generator attached and say gbye to the electric companies.

  • @TheHHotwire but you cant get energy out of a system that you aren't putting into a system. e.g. it'll always take more energy to separate enough hydrogen to run an engine than the electric generator will put out. which is why perpetual motion is impossible. you always have losses due to friction and other factors.

  • thts guy is from the first season of the colony?

  • @altoids79762 i thaught the same!

  • you sound lik that Old guy off of that eye drop commercial.

  • mabye another way to make a connection that wouldnt currode would be to adhere a very large contact that wouldn't corrode to each plate, and then connect to that. Would such a thing be possible? These videos need numbers!

  • mabye another way to make a connection that wouldnt currode would be to adhere a very large contact that wouldn't corrode to each plate, and then connect to that. Would such a thing be possible?

  • I had to stop watching when he said that electricity flows from Positive to Negative. This guy doesn't know basic electrical properties.

In an electrical circuit, the current that is flowing is made up of electrons. Electrons have a negative charge. They travel towards the more positive portion of the circuit. Electrons flow from Negative to Positive.

  • OIE THAT FELLA WAS OFF THE FIRST SEASON OF THE COLONY on Discovery.

  • Hello my friend, I live in Brazil, I can not speak English, I used the google translator to type in, wanted to assemble a kit for my car, it could pass the measure as plate thickness, width, length, thickness of the sealing or mounting diagram, and all necessary materials will be very grateful, hugs, Amauri Correa da Fonseca. Email: amauri12009@uol.com.br

  • needs video numbers... where's the first video???

  • @frosty1433 Got it! Here is the full epsidoe split it only 2 parts; watch?v=t5oNg3-0SOM&list=PLD28172D9785E9579&feature=plpp

  • haha i remembered him instantly... the colony... wrecked his "hot rod" hahahahahahaha too funny..

  • this guy was on the colony O.o

  • heey man did u playd in the colony on dicofery channel? u looklike them

u are a genis if u are greet pcneter

  • why is there a problem playing some of these hho videos?

  • 2 things one is the use a form of platinum in capacitors and bullshit on the attaching thing there are special welding equipment that allows you to aka TIG welders SS welding rods or SS welding wire for migs oh i forgot the electron flow causes the hydrogen and oxygen to be ripped apart and x65535x is right electrons flow from negative to positive always have

  • 2 things one is the use a form of platinum in capacitors and bullshit on the attaching thing there are special welding equipment that allows you to aka TIG welders SS welding rods or SS welding wire for migs

  • thumbs up if hydrogen is an awsome word!!!!!!

  • A better solution for his connections would have been to just NOT use copper connectors near the fkn water! How about using a steel bolt to connect the plates and stop outside the top THEN connect the wire to it? He's an expert in engineering? Doubtful!

  • This guy is about as trust worthy as a politician!

  • hey men. one question, where can i get those containers? we're doing a little proyect at school wich involves creating hydrogen and those seem ideal. Thanks in advance.

  • @yorchais They are from water filtration systems.

  • NIICE!!!

  • maybe take an epoxy resin and make a stainless connector on the end for bolting. this is how they make electrical connections under water in bore wells. i decided to do this when submerging a cable in the mud without getting water coming up into the copper core. this was it kept water out.

  • Has Macgyver cut his hair?

  • One step closer to a nuclear bomb.

  • cool

  • 140.000 videos ?!, hows that even possible ?!

  • how did you drill your holes

  • too many videos!!! OMG why does he have a vid for every minor detail

  • nice cell

  • Why? my water turns green?

  • @keyko69 thats probably corroded copper.

  • Making hydrogen to use for energy is the sa.e as charging a battery. Lets say you use a car battery and generate hydrogen until the battery is empty. The amount of energy you get from the hydrogen is less than what you could have gotten directly from the battery so you would have been better off just using the battery.

  • @singerdave2001 Right, except you cant run an internal combustion engine on electricity and all cars have a alternator with a surplus of energy. Also the alternator is usually attached to a belt directly connected to the crankshaft. This means that as long as a conventional engine is running it is rotating the alternator an thus producing electricity that can be used for electrolysis without consuming any extra gasoline.

  • @from212 There is no such thing as excess electricity when referring to an alternator. there is however excess potential. If you draw more current from the alternator to create hydrogen you actually cause the alternator to produce more drag which puts more strain on the engine and burns more fuel. I have tested this by turning over an alternator with an electirc motor and when putting a bulb on the alternator the current draw on the electric motor went up. internal comb. is too ineffecient anywa

  • @singerdave2001 Most of the gas is wasted in spinning it, the drag created when its under load is not proportionate to the gas it is consuming since the alternator is already spinning. Don't get me wrong, I am not claiming that an HHO system can give you a 50% mileage increase but it definitely does put back SOME of the energy that is being wasted in spinning the alternator, which is not much. Maybe 5-10% at most with a good setup.

  • @singerdave2001 Yes, correct. It takes more power to drive a generator that is on load.

  • @sorova Thanks Sorova. I have read that a hydrogen fuel cell is 85% efficient. Internal combustion is far less efficient. Even if you were producing equal potential in the hydrogen from the current and fuel used to produce the hydrogen the most you could expect in return would be 85% if using a fuel cell this number goes way down for internal combustion. These days politics has gotten wrapped into green energy we must be careful to jump on any energy bandwagon without diligent research.

  • there is another video that the guy used o-rings between plates with holes ,with the wire on bolted outside away from corrosive water.

  • The copper corrodes due to dissimilar metals causing electrolysis . The only way to correct for this is to use a cadmium split bolt or connector for attaching the leads. Electrons flow from negative to positive.I don't know how much voltage they are using but that thing being made would more than likely start a fire.

  • You get Oxygen in this reaction too....

  • This is a way cool way to make on demand hydrogen for vehicles. I have used magnesium and aluminum before in electrolysis and using stainless steel is way more viable accessible metal to source.

    Very good presentation

I want to fuel the entire motor from cold start to 200kmh on water and this video has been very helpful.

  • hahahah nice Jarritos box back there!!! 1:56

  • Sir, you have the mannerisms of an Operator..

  • As a container, did you use old drink-water filters?

  • cool video but i dont get how you arrange them from negative to positive are the steel plates positive and negative or are they connected seperatly to a negative and positive wire i have not yet built my first hho generator untill i know what that means

  • here's your problem. the stainless steel is gonna break down and release hazardous chromium into the water which much be handled carefully and disposed of properly, not just dumped out as you are probably going to do.

  • Comment removed

  • Wouldnt stainless steel be bad to use because although it wont make the water all rusty, rust is the crucial part of the reaction. H2O + Fe --> H2 + Fe2O3

Without the iron oxide there can be no hydrogen made.

    Someone please respond.

  • @mtdeezy this process uses electricity to split the water molecule into 2 hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. It had nothing to do with rust.

    2H2O + energy → 2H2 + 02

  • AAaahhh! Actually the Negitive plate's produce Hydrogen and the Positive plate's produce Oxygen (aka Brown's Gas). In order to produce pure Hydrogen the POS and NEG plate's have to be in separate chambers. Or you run a jet of super heated steam through natural gas to produce Hydrogen. The solar/electric trike on the show was very cool though!

  • Could the current be carried by electronic frequency rather than an additive.?

  • could the current be carried by electronic frequency?

  • Would this cell no be woefully inefficient?

It's not a dry cell, so quite a bit of the current goes around the plates, and with all of the holes, through them as well.

If you want this design to be more efficient, use plain plate, and wrap the whole thing in some sort of insulating wrap.

Do some more reading on the web too.

  • I knew I've seen this guy somewhere before!!!! Anyway..... Why couldn't he put everything in one video or just number the videos? I don't know which video is the next clip.

  • dip shit electricity travels from negative to positive also have u heard of a TIG welder?

  • Hey Michael ,why should i do with hydrogen ?!!!

  • @georgel19841 blow stuff up!

  • this guy has no clue of what he is doing - no mechanical skills XD and he using tape omfg!!!

  • how do you connect the copper wire on the array before dipping in the plastic. he didnt specify that. if there are so many pieces of stainless, how is the wire attached? all the way through the array of stainless pieces, or just on the ends of the outside pieces?

do you need an odd or even amount of stainless pieces per array for the positive/negative for the copper wire connection to work?

  • This is awesome information and looks anybody could do this... Thanks for sharing this information with the rest of us

  • @PanHeadrocks anybody who know a little more then nothing is more clever then him...

  • @EsterinMovement yep u dont need to wire it p/n/p/n u can just put a negitive at one end a positive at the other and the rest nutral as when the current passes from negative to positive it will pass threw the nutrals causing them to produce hydrogen

  • that's right, from NEGATIVE to POSITIVE

  • i was gonna say the samething as Tibobhe.smh these guys are all actors.

  • i was gonna say the samething as Tibobhe.smh these guys are all actors.

  • I never thought of using plastic dip. That really helped me out on my own design. Thanks!

  • Electrons(-) go around the nucleus, holding the protons(+) and the neutrons(neutral)

  • tumbs down for advertisement

  • WHY NOT AD A 3RD CONTAINER ( 2.5 OR 5 GALLON SEALED WATER BOTTLE ) TO THE MIX AS A COOLER GET 2 HOSES AND 4 CONNECTORS RUN THE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND GET A CONVECTION TO HELP KEEP THE WATER AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTION'S COOL. AS THE WATER HEATS UP IT MOVES INTO THE COOLER CONTAINER AND THE COOL WATER IS PULLED INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE HYDROLIZER YOU COULD EVEN USE THIS AS YOUR BUBBLER.

  • I cant see the video for the captions!

  • I just made a hyndrogen generator yesterday, but it exploded and I had ringing in my left ear for about one day :O.

  • still looking like the caveman ...OH, I got FIRE!! And a WIRE!! Oh, let's dumk it in this gooky stuff over here, TAR?? Hey, we got something here!! whoopie!! love ya man... maxwellartgordon ITS JUST THAT SIMPLE... WHERE THE DEVIL ...IS... THE NEXT CLIP?

  • positive to MOST negative. Therefor your construction is produce current leak. Look at the way I combine the connections as part of the electrode. DallasGoldBug. Also your water filter housing is not made for hot electrolytic solution. It will become hydrogen em brittled and fail.

  • First, you need a proton membrane to keep hydrogen separated from oxygen. Otherwise you get a dangerous gas. Look at the space shuttle. The oxygen and hydrogen is not mixed before you want it to explode in the rocket engine.

Secondly, Have you tried to mount a windmill on the roof of your car? take the electricity it produces and make hydrogen. Now use that hydrogen to run the can, and the wind makes more electricity. You will never need to fuel up again.

Do you see the flaw here??

  • Comment removed

  • What a stupid idea. Anyone who passed physics or chemistry 101 understand that this is idiotic and dangerous.

  • @SoniaEvjenth glad i diddnt passed those classes than, because there teaching you some bullshit.. it works, try it

  • dude i love this guy on the colony

  • i can't see the video for all the typing in front of it.

  • ratio of HYDROGEN : POWER use

    vikaspoikara@yahoo.com (vikas)

  • When stainless steel is in the electrolysis process, the coating separates releasing dangerous chemicals and heavy metals.

  • No Michael, FAIL. What is it with the weak science and zero editorial oversight on these "Expert" VIllage videos?? This doesn't make hydrogen, it makes HHO, that's hydrogen mixed with oxygen, which is arguably even more dangerous than making Hydrogen due to its explosvie and self oxidising nature. If the video had been labelled HHO I would never have watched it, I expected Hydrogen not HHO, the title is just plain WRONG

  • @toranamunter Im a newbie, but is HHO still able to be used for powering a motor? or does the Oxygen need to be seperated from the HHO in order to be used. Im just trying to figure out the logic and overall picture of all these HHO videos on here. Im told these are Hydrogen generators and also aren't the same as Hydrogen fuel cells. Just trying to clear this up.

  • @livnlarge1980 yes you're on the right track mate, HHO is most commonly used to augment a regular petrol combustion engine (as its not really possible to make enough HHO 'on the fly' via electrolysis to run a large motor). You can make hydrogen by the same reaction, but you need separate gas collectors for the anode and cathode to get the hydrogen without the oxygen. Fuel cells, I don't know much about, but I think they are for producing electricity when you run hydrogen through them. Have fun!!

  • instead on stainless steel use tin foil with a hole and a clip with the wir to a battery on each side.

  • What I would have done is bend them in a zig zag sandwich pattern. Sandwich them together with small insulators between them. Weld a heavy gauge stainless strap to get you to your terminals.

  • Current flows from negative to positive, electrons flow not protons.

  • @x65535x conventional current is positive to negative but the electrons flow negative to positive

  • @x65535x As I recall the current flows from the overflowing electron negative side, to the laking electron side witch is positive.

  • @Ramiromasters

Correct, electricity flows due to electrons moving inside a conductor. The nucleus of an atom stays relatively stationary while electrons freely move through the conductor.

  • @x65535x

its doesn't matter what way it flows as long as u inverse everything ... ohms law was created before we knew what way it flowed is 1 example.

  • @x65535x You are incorrect. in electrolysis the flow can be ions of either positive or negative charge depending on the electrode materials and electrolytic medium used.

  • @x65535x ok then but he means that the current is travelling from the plates

  • @acmfraser

Electrons flow from the negative plate through the electrolyte solution, losing potential as the water molecules undergo electrolysis. Hence the voltage across the plates, also current is the same everywhere in every individual circuit.

  • @x65535x He is explaining it with conventional currents. Stop being a smart-ass if you don't even know what he is talking about.

  • @x65535x Actually the definition of current is the movement of positive electric charges, so current inherently flows in the opposite direction of the electrons. Current measures the positive charge flow, not the electrons themselves. So he is right in saying that current flows from positive to negative.

  • @x65535x no shit

  • @x65535x The convention for current is from positive to negative, so the opposite way from the flow of electrons. This convention was decided before people knew about electrons, and people still use the same convention now. This is called "conventional current"

  • @x65535x Hes talking about conventional current. Positive to negative. But you are right about electrons.

  • MIchael, what would really be helpful is learning where you purchased most of your equipment and just how much. Can you share? I can't seem to find any of the parts anywhere, especially a PWM or EFIE. Any direction would be apreciated. Also, it would be great if you numbered your videos respectively. Thx!

  • Anything from Expert Village is second rate, and poorly catagorized... everyone should just avoid Expert Village videos.

  • What you're making is actually a combination of hydrogen & oxygen. AKA Brown's Gas. Beware! Even in a closed air-tight container, it is extremely explosive with a single spark. Don't try to store it. Use it as it is being generated. Hydrogen could be made separately from oxygen by keeping the negative and positive electrodes separated into 2 different collection vessels. Again do not try to store the gas created by this devise.

  • OMG ITS THAT DUDE from that show lol

  • why dont people use the buoyancy of HHO to recover the cost of energy that is required to produce the HHO?

a water wheel type of configuration where the HHO is inside closed containers so that the water pressures under water do not cost extra energy to convert the water into HHO.

  • why doesn't someone number these clips so i don't have to try to string them together and hope i get it right? why are they so short? you can do a ten minute clip.

  • dude your right, i couldnt remember what he was on. did pritty good on the show too, great on the video

  • This guy is on a tv show called the colony! It plays at 8:00 pm estearn(in canada) on discovery channel! I follow this show as if it was a religion!

  • @Tibobhe lol, yea really :D

  • @Tibobhe he is the best i know iv seen him b4 he was gr8 on colliny i wached every episode is was awesome

  • @Tibobhe lmao woooow i was wondering if that was the same person

....the resistance of the steel is insignificant, considering the electrolytewill have much more resistance

or u could jsut solder it on, instead of wrapping it

  • @PPjbcol

H2O is 2 hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule and yes it would be a good idea to have the gases to go into 2 different pips separating them but that is much harder and not completely necessary

  • of course its necessary. if you need pure H you cant have it corrupted with O.

try to charge a H fuel cell with what you get out of this; not going to happen.

so in this experiment you get dirty H which is not good for anything but adding junk under your hood.

H is pretty safe, unless its in the presence of O then you get boom and that will not help.

you need pure H for a fuel cell and no i dont want to make a distillation column setup or bring the temp of O down to just below boiling.

  • Hello. Sorry for the silly question... In this configuration, where is O2 going? I thought it would be necessary to send O2 and H2 in two different pipes...?

sorry again, I know this is basic stuff, but I couldn't find much information...

  • To measure your oxygen content, find yourself a cheap electrogalvanic fuel cell.

They are common amongst scuba enthusiasts. They also generate substantial amounts of electricity from the oxygen build up, IT is in actuality, an oxygen battery. With Gold cathode , lead anode, and potassium hydroxide films.

  • With my personal experience i have found the best way to absorbe the oxygen while building up H concentration is to create "iron powder screens". Literally useing several layers of table napkins, or coffee filters stuffed with iron powder, and elmers glued shut. Think of the nano iron powders as active carbon. Instead of filtering toxins, it absorbes the oxygen, by converting the iron powder layers into rust. Thus lowering the oxygen output at the gas nozel.

  • I was using hot melt as protection for the copper wire, but after a awhile the hot melt starts to pill off the stainless steel. where do you get the plastic deep or is there another name for it.AND THANKS FOR THE INFO.

  • to clarify: he means Hydrogen AND oxygen. If you heat this mixture in a airtight container, it will explode anyway. Good for motors or whatever, bad for storage. You'd have to filter out the oxygen. running it through a reducer would work fairly well, but most of those are toxic if they work well, which, depending on your reason for doing this, could be very bad, or very good.

  • anyone know if you can use a hair dryers coils to create the electrolysis? Minus the blower obviously.

  • Try some good vinegar and chainsaw frame chips(usually a magnesium alloy)

-Or pipe cleaner and aluminum foil, with those you will get a lots of hydrogen.

  • Couldn't you just use an old car battery with the acid drained out and replaced with water and hook it up to a charger?

  • @TheTarrMan dude thats a good idea.oh ya saw one guy do it but he built his own cells and it works good

  • HOLY SHIT you were on the colony!

  • dud u dont know much - you can either weld or plate several layers of different metals with relative ease.

So, you have a decent speaking voice, sir, but regarding innovation, you are quite a hack - specifically, your connections are bogus for anything more than a short-life prototype.

  • WTF ! Ur were on the show the colony !

  • where did you get those containers from

  • @dan6896

it looks just like the reverse osmosis filter container , or you may say it looks completely the same.

  • "The current flows from positive to negative"??? Might want to check you facts. Voltage flows from pos to neg - current flows the opposite direction.

To make water fuel, you make ozone in a laser ozone generator, steam using a magnetron to for H2O2 which has a rigid bond angle of 109.28 degrees and will "fracture" into HHOO in a resonant cavity using ultrasonic. That is what both Meyer and Puharich did.

  • @QuarkToo

would this not be reason to ceramic line the engine block then? As your talking Hydrogen peroxide, which is sometimes used as a rocket propellant? And what would the desired strength of that be? to perform inside an ice without issue?

    just curious

As a side note one only need to look at some of the basic physics of a thunderstorm to truly see the affects of voltage/amps....

    cheers

  • @whiterican74 Meyr used an AL VW engine pobably for that reason. AL is a recommended storage tank for hydrogen peroxide. AL also won't suffer from hydrogen embrittlement.

I am pretty sure about the process but could never cite all the references in a youtube comment box. Once you understand the base process, what Meyer was saying suddenly is less confusing and the process unfolds.

  • @QuarkToo

I understood the meyer thing a while ago... It's actually quite spectacular... However I would add that he worked it into something a little more powerful than H2O2. How long does it take for O3 to interact with the HH+O molecules in those excited conditions to create H2O2? And was he able to get mono-atomic hydrogen vs diatomic separation within his reactor/steamer.
