But I have to remark: the ascending intonation adds some sort of curiosity which seems to me to clash with the lines themselves. for example: if there were ROCK and also WATER. if there were the sound of water ONLY. sounds too conclusive and too much like a question, especially compared to T S Eliot's own reading of his work which seems to roll on and on
