  • other than Rachmaninoff's version of this piece, Yundi Li's is my favourite. There's a certain melancholy about it that I like.

  • This is a much better recording and playing than his other youtube post on the same piece.

  • pretty good

  • theres nothing creative about ripping off old songs, all these piano players do is copy copy copy like robots! rubbish, compose your own stuff and stop ripping off other peoples, thrers nothing creative about it watsoever. garbage.

  • @Afewdollarsmore1 then dont listen

  • @WhiteButterfly87 True say. Its my fault yes.

  • @Afewdollarsmore1 Fuck outta here.

  • @YetHaterLover But where will I go bro? Where, answer me that one? What am I supposed to do just close down my account and leave just like that! I cannot just simply do that bro. I have a family to feed and I dont feed them by copying someone elses song and living off their backs. You get me bro? I am genuiiiiiiine, I make my money from my own creations not others. Some are sheep, some are sheperads. Bro turn away from sin ok. Peace out man

  • @Afewdollarsmore1 Fuck-outta-here.

  • @Afewdollarsmore1 Musicians writing their work for the next generation like ours, they dedicate their lives to their work remain to be remembered and be heard by future generations. By studying and playing the work of previous musicians, we make their dreams come true, and from there came new musicians better than its predecessor, and we can also hear the beautiful music even if its creators have passed away. It's not about just copy, copy and copy.

  • @vicmatic12 Ok.

  • @vicmatic12 Agreed. To add to the above:

Also, to be a superb musician, you need to not only listen to, but play other people's compositions. That is how you learn - in terms of technicality, interpretation, and many other musical aspects. That is how any musician gets started anyway! We learn from older compositions, and the history also allows us to make (if we want to) educated interpretations of new pieces to play or to compose. Oh, yeah. Stop saying "bro," it's very irritating!

  • OMG this video is fake! The piano started playing before he even sat down!!1! (I'm mocking those trolls who call every video fake.)

  • Great piece, brilliant performance, Bravo !!!!

  • Out of every version I've heard, this one is definitely the best. Yundi seems to have a great understanding of how dynamics and timing affect a piece.

  • He plays this beautifully. Soft. He usually plays nocturnes a little too tough. This is delicate and gentle.

  • omg it sounds soo amazing, even through my crappy laptop speakers

  • it's friday night, i am beat from a week of intense activities at work, got a bottle of red wine and i'm going to shut down to the incomparable sounds of yundi and chopin...long live chopin, long live rubinstein, long live yundi.

  • Hermoso, maravilloso

  • :o orgasm.

  • i wish i could play this on guitar... :( *-*

  • @rockeiro7 You can do an epic hendrix blues lick. Something a pianist can never accomplish on the instrument.

  • wow,i play this too, but damn he plays so brilliant, i could cry!

  • Eargasm!

  • sooooo goood... so many good memories have been brought back while listening to this... especailly the memories I had in that spring... =)

  • solo un asiatico puede interpretar con la melancolia necesaria una de las canciones mas sublimes que tiene la huminadad............

  • Great skill and perfect pace

  • beautiful

  • Lang Lang is more for commercial market while Yundi Li for pure musicianship.

  • That piano might be steinway and sons , it's so expensive~~~@@ I like Yundi's style, so romantic and perfect !

  • It's fake... At 0:01 he isn't even touching the piano!

  • @shizyballer It's a "music video" all the video is proberly not shoot in only one take, But the audio most likely are.

  • The playing was excellent. The lighting was way too bright, or perhaps the camera effect. He looks peaked (pale). A marvellous musician though. I like his articulation and overall technique.

  • anyone know why Yundi switched to EMI classics?

  • beautifully played!!! Yundi li is very good @putting expression into a piece!!!

  • Very beautiful

  • one of the most beautiful piano part from chopin

  • Like briefly existing in the dreams of another time and place, the way a nocturne should be played. Beautiful.

  • What's DG?

  • @lsjiang00 Deutsche Grammophon (the record label)

  • Yundu Lİ harika

  • when i was still in the SEALS we used to play this song along with an entire array of classical masterpieces from bach to ave maria in are armored troop transport before going into combat :)

  • you are amazing

i want be your student of piano

  • If the rumour is true that Lang Lang had some involvement in Yundi's departure he didn't gain from it at DG as he went to Sony.If it is true my respect for him as an artist has fallen dramatically.Classical music can do without this tread on everyone else attitude to get to the top and stay there. You should stay at the top because of your talent and the public's admiration for your talent, not because of some underhand dirty tricks campaign to undermine another artist..I dont like that.

  • I wonder who we will still be talking about in forty years. If we let classical music descend into a competition ruled by who has the best media spin on them then Lang Lang will no doubt win the publicity game but music is not about winning and being top dog,we reserve that arena for sport.Music is about giving artists the freedom to express their own thoughts whether it be the way Lang Lang does or Yundi Li does.Music is big enough to allow everyone their own individuality. Lets keep it that way

  • Lang Lang needs to be careful what he is being used for. The media can easily turn on you if you rely on them to promote you all the time. The media will exploit you for their own gain. They can just as easily drop you like that when it suits them. Murray Perahia has been at the top of his career for nearly forty years for the precise reason he never like the limelight he did his talking on the piano. I see a similar character trait in Yundi Li, very reserved but a very talented pianist.

  • i also preferred yundi's approach and sincerity (if one can actually claim to detect such things), but my wife recently bought me lang lang's recital in vienna where he played 2 beethoven sonatas (opp. 3/2 and 57) amongst other things and i was blown away by his complete command both technically and artistically.

  • I don’t know about piano...the only standard that i am using is my heart. I can feel that this great. I love this song...i believe that the highest form of appreciation is to respect the taste of others...

  • Gorgeous ! Very nice

  • 5 people are deaf and clicked dislike

  • at last...I found a video of Nocturne which is clear and loud enough...

  • GREAT PIANO PLAYER!

  • Musical Orgasm at 1:57

  • 5 Dislikes. I dont understand why anyone would hate Yundi's passion.

  • @Sudokubank Because of their jealousy!

  • My Ears go well with Steinway !

  • seems like this version is much slower than when he's playing other times.

  • @amarazen

I have seen video of him playing live of thie piece, which is much faster. But it is when he was young. I guess his heart settled after many years, haha. I prefer it slower

  • best video on youtube right here

  • luv Yundi forever......he is amazing

  • Anyone with doubts about Yundi' musicality and talents should listen to his La Campanella, Sunflower and Chopin's etude Winter Wind--- he paints beautiful vivid pictures with his music. Amazing!!!

  • Of course Yundi Li is much better than Lang Lang, because Lang Lang is not good at all.Lang Lang is just a showman. He does not understand music.

  • I love your playing Yundi

  • Meu ídolo!!

  • This version is much better than his old version which has 4 million views. The older version is a little fast and a little bit mechanical. This one is much more personal. It really touches my soul. Yundi is getting more mature, and more perfect. This is Yundi's best.

  • first time i've heard this guy play

    he's ace!

  • Divino.

  • Agree, Li is better,

  • divino..

  • I don't understand why yundi and langlang are so competitive with each other. Only cuz they are both Chinese? Shouldn't they be more supportive if they are from the same country?

  • He's beautiful.

  • Chopin, Chopin, Chopin!

  • Yundi Li is soooo much better than Lang Lang. His technique is much better and refined. Amazing!

  • Doesn`t his hair look a bit oily?

  • @yundiful that's up to the stylist :)

  • It should be a good move for Yundi. EMI may be more accommodating than DG to Yundi's development. It's hard not to think of marketing tactics when seeing built-up rivalry between Yundi and Lang-Lang over the years. And dazzling Lang-Lang has more influence in such a practice. Hope EMI (which has been less preferable to me, when choosing a recording) does a good job this time. Yundi could be our Arrau in the 21th century!

  • Beautiful playing!

I am so glad that EMI recognizes his talent. For whatever reason, DG didn't continue the contract of two Chopin winners: Dang Thai Son and Yundi Li. They wanted to support LL instead. Maybe LL can sell more. :)

Anyway, look forward to the new stage of Yundi's career!

  • I've been following him since he won the competition. A lot of musicianship and maturity for his age. He's way beyond LL in that respect. This is a complete set they're advertising, it's due April and I'll give it a shot.

  • excellent performance!!!

  • Yundi is the BEST!!

  • I doubt anyone, perhaps apart from Chopin himself, could play this more beautifully than Li Yundi. His music is so peaceful and calm, like falling very slowly and gently in love.

Having said that, Evgeny Kissin is another pianist whose music I utterly adore.

  • i prefer Yundi as well, sort of he's got more intrinsic passion than LL that brings music to life....

  • There are speculation that it was Lang Lang's interests that Yundi Li has to leave DG.....

I prefer Yundi Li over Lang Lang for any piece they both have played.

  • @ItachiGT What is DG?

  • @xiaonoobiexd Deutsche Grammophon

  • @snuffypoo What is that? A competition?

  • @xiaonoobiexd its a well known record label

  • @snuffypoo So did he leave DG in the end? What happened? Tell me more please, thank you.

  • @ItachiGT what is DG?

  • @greedy800hp Deutsche Grammophon

  • @MrPrestoconfuocco germany orchestra ?

  • a REALLY REALLY REALLY famous person for Chinese. ppl proud of him.

I like the piano, so clean XP, EMI staff must be spend a lot of time to clean it. lol

  • is he an EMI artist?! did he left Deutsche Grammophon??!

  • yes

  • Yeah.

  • @peixotoraul: Yes, he signed with EMI...DG dropped him at the end of 2008 for whatever reason they came up with.

  • @orangewedges I think it was because when Lang Lang signed the contract with DG, he told them that he will not come unless they take Yundi Li out of the company.

  • Besides the great performance, beautifully filmed. What a delicate piece.

  • love it

  • haha, it's true

  • yo me la se perros

  • Simply a masterpiece i love it so dearly.

  • It's Chopin Year! :)
