  • Very nice tutorial. Thank you!

  • Okay I'm REALLY beginner in FCE4...I was wondering how to get more than 2 video tracks. Like if I wanted to do 3 video/ photo clips, I'd need 1 more row. How do I get that?

  • THANK YOU. first tutorial that made sense

  • doesnt work. thanks anyway

  • The user's manual is over 1,100 pages!!! And most tutorials suck, so thanks. IzzyVideo has some decent ones. BTW, you can really fake a British accent well. J/K! ;)

  • this is great, im new to FCE, how do you save the resulting picture so I can upload it to facebook or something? Since it is 2 layers on top of each other, Im guessing you have to combine it somehow and go from there? thanks

  • Awesome, Thank you so much. I have been wanting to know how to do this for a long time!

  • when i try it i cant see any difference wile i edit it how do i change it ??

  • MY VIEWER TURNS INTO THE CHROMA KEY THING, SO WHEN I TRY AND VIEW IT TO CHANGE THE COLOR, I CANNOT. please help

  • how do you get it so that you don't have to keep rendering!

  • Thanks man! :D

  • the way you say color is so badass!! "cuh-la" lol XD

  • thank you!

  • invest in voila cheap and decent for screen recording chap..

  • Thank you so much for this!

  • Thank u thank u thank u!

  • Is it natural that every time you say color I want to hit you in the face?

  • @ThrivingMetropolis - it's natural but only if you're psychotic.

  • Very nice. Makes me want to try it, though I'd have to study the video a bit more.

  • wats the difference between express 4 and pro?

  • Great video. Thanks a lot.

  • I didn't see this on my HD version lol

  • that second one looks great in particular. good on you for this video. though I do wish you'd done a video clip as well as still images.

  • @foxyboxin thanks for the comment but I have done a separate video for this effect just for video clips. Go to my page and find the video from there, i hope it's helpful,

  • Great video, very easy to follow. Thanks :)

  • how do i open up the tool bar on the bottom right corner?

  • is Final Cut Express like Sony Vegas? I currently have Sony Vegas and a PC just for video editing because Vegas doesn't run on my mac.

  • thanks

  • thanx! helped a lot!

  • Great tutorial....that was easier than I imagined. Thanks!!

  • Cheers mate good tutorial keep it up

  • Is this the Geiko geko speaking!? D: Me likes! xD

Btw, on a more serios note, I want to buy the 3.5 version. Is it worth it?

  • is it also working, if the colored thing is moving in the clip?

  • Yes it does! I tried it on a video clip and it does the sin city effect til I edit it to stop.

  • Amazing Thanks man!

  • how do you do this effect with video?

  • thank you a billioin times :)

  • ok great dude thanks

  • is it possible to burn a project direct from final cut express 4 to disc or have you to just at it through toast titanium.

  • great tutorial 5 stars from me.

how do you get the PLAYHEAD back to the start sometimes i find it goes out of view.i find i have to drag it from the very end of my footage to the start, there must be a quicker way to get it to the start.

  • If you use a MacBook or MacBook Pro press fn + the left arrow key.

If you use an iMac or something with an apple Keyboard, press the home key

  • Hey, if you haven't already seen the Final Cut King tutorials then I suggest that you take a look. They are awesome!

  • is there any way to do the reverse? that is, have everything in color expect a certain object of thing in black and white?

  • There is. Just apply the chroma key filter and the color corrector to the top clip and no filter to the bottom one.

  • Love the content in this video, thank you so much! I'm marking you 4 stars, if you're interested, I would have preferred if you were more zoomed in so we could read what was on screen.

A BIG help though, thank you so much.

  • Nice tutorial, but next time use iShowU for capturing on video the screen. It's a very cheap soft, but anyway I think that on the new Leopard there's an screen video capture feature indeed. Thanks!

  • Yes. There is a new thing called QuickTime X that plays videos and things like that for you. But it now has an option to record for you :)

  • I didn't try it out yet. I had SL installed just long time enough to determine that neither Cubase nor my TC Electronic gear worked properly. So I had to use a rescue HD I have with Leopard installed, and let the experiments for the future, since at this moment I'm in the middle of a project and I need everything just work fine. A real pitty, SL was terribly quicker and the new features were awesome.

  • just new to macs and this software as im at a new college. Im getting a tad better and this helped thanks.

  • this is a somewhat inefficient way to achieve the effect, but still works nicely.

    goos work

  • mm alright.

  • excuse me i don't have bad spelling thank-you.

  • love the accen't.

  • thanks for the video

  • Thanks!

  • Great tutorial! Thanks a lot!

Just one comment: among the image control effects there is a desaturate filter. Does the same, just a bit faster to use!

  • Thanks! Always wanted to know how to do this. Now I finally can :) hehe

  • thx alot man

  • Amazing!

you probably dont have the time but:

Can you do the same thing, but the coloured object is moving?

  • it the same thing, croma key will render the same settings for all the frames. nothing more that u have to do :)

  • you're a savior man

  • lmao! just random pics of him holding shiT! :)

  • thank you for this. helps a lot

  • can you do this effect to videos as well as pictures?

  • that is a video its just the first scene i think

  • yeah

  • Yes you can do it with videos. Make sure you light your scene well or keying will be a pain to work with. I hope tis helped. Good luck!

  • yes it works the same

  • If you would like to make it look better, use screen recording software like screen flow, or iShowU

  • Never thought of that! Awesome idea!

  • THANK YOU!!!!

  • Hey does this final cut exprees does it have the motion effect the way final cut pro has?

  • really helpful thanks!

  • thats awesome thnx

  • use a screen capture software like screenflow or i showu hd for a more proffessinal look

  • thank you david beckham

  • thank you so much I really needed that! so much thx!

  • Awesome man, you helped me alot !!

  • i have a question, when i put a effect on a clip it applies it to the WHOLE thing i don't want it to apply to the whole thing! so lets say i want to put the effects from 000000 to 00:03:02 how do i do that!?

  • split the clip ..

  • yea just like what noise59 said, spilt the clip where u want the effect to end with the razor tool. This will make no difference to the video, but the effect will end at the split.

  • One question... would this be possible for video as well? Or only still pictures? Thank you for the video.

  • yes it works with video

i have recently used it in my video if u want example

  • Yeah man just did this first time thanks to your vid, cheers dude a very easy but wicked looking effect!

  • THANK YOU!

  • ILY

  • Awesome!!! PLEASE keep the Final Cut Express tutorials coming!!

  • Thank you so much. I have wondered how to do this for ages.

    You are a great teacher.

  • GREAT video! lots of help, thanks, keep up the good work!

  • its not working for me :(

  • I used your video to create my own version with three colors on my video with my parrot! Thanks for the awesome explanation :)

  • thanks so much for this!

btw. your accent is great! where are you from?

  • thankyou

    glad i could help

im from south of england, near london :)

  • @McyMayhem ME TOO! I'm from south of london! Watch my british videos!

  • THANKS SO MUCH

    Great tutorial!

  • excellent tutorial... greatly appreciated

  • THANK YOU SO FUCKIN MUCH!!!!!

  • How do you split a video in half when it's in the timeline? like make one video into two.

  • u select the 'Razor Blade Tool' from the command buttons on the right, looks like a little saw. Then just click at the place you want to spilt it in the timeline.

  • thankyou.

  • @McyMayhem The shortcut for the razor blade tool is B, hit that and your cursor becomes the razor tool. Hover over clip where you want to split it, then click. hit the letter A on your keyboard to get back to your arrow cursor.

  • hit the b button on the key board for the razor and a to go back to the arrow, thats quicker than using the tool plate

  • good stuff, man

  • just askin.. iv seen a vid where this guy made clones of himself and u do need a greenscreen 4 it rite... or does final cut hav it already

  • hey, yer u will need a green screen of some sort, or just a surface thats all the same colour. Chroma Keyer just gets rid of a colour of your choice, in your case green.

  • no you don't need a greenscreen for it

  • Comment removed

  • hello, in my fce4 version, chroma key is a transition effet and not a movie effect and i can't find the way to aply it can you help me ?

  • thanks mate. great vid. make more!!!!

  • its fantastic to hear a british vouce in a tutorial :)

  • haha thankyou :)

  • So this should work with video as well as still images?

  • Nevermind, just tried it out, and worked perfectly! Thanks for the perfect tutorial!

  • Thank you so much, that was fantastic! I only just got FCE 4 for Christmas & it's great!

However, I do have a problem & I'd love if someone knew how to fix it. I'm very new to editing. I imported my footage, divided it into subclips & it worked ok in the viewer. I got halfway through & suddenly one of the clips is out of sync. It works in the viewer but when I made the in/out points & dragged it to the timeline the audio is out of sync by about a second! Any ideas why, or what I could check?

  • was of great help buddy you rock :)

  • thankyou so much. very helpful tutorial.

  • thanks

  • how come i have grey bars on the bottom and top of my video in final cut how do iget rid of that

  • ty... had to work around the softening and enhance in chroma keyer... but it worked out nicely... keep them coming...

  • dude y dont u simply get screeflow

  • because its simply $100 dollars haha

  • thank you (^o^)

  • Excellent job
