  • There had been some radio transmissions in TFX that I wasn't able understand for years. Using DosBOX's audio capture feature, I transcribed and put them on my site. Go to zekienesakkan d.o.t com and in the left menu, click "Blog in English." There you can read all of the voice effects used in TFX.

  • Ah man, happy happy memories if this game, I spent hours and hours playing it, pitty there isn't anythiing like it now.

  • fucking hell,...my student times!. used to play this for hours and hours on my flatmate's 486. When you ejected at low altitude you could see your body splattered with blood. we used to position just underneath the refuelling tanker and eject against it. class.

  • @komepollass I was also ejecting on low altitude :)

  • oh yeah, laserguided bombs with camera view... and the awesome cruisermissiles :D

  • Also, did anybody else get bored and just fly straight down at the runway, eject at the last second, and splatter all over the pavement?

I haven't seen an air sim do that since. I want a modern air sim to have that rendered in game, where you eject and splatter on the ground in a big red smear. Your head should also pop off and fly a few meters. Make it a mini-game to see whose head gets the best roll distance.

  • "All major credit cards, accepted..."

Who here remembers that one from refueling?

  • Holy crap i tottaly forgot about this game, came here through 29 retaliator. I remember the camview in tfx so you could freelook from the cockpit. That was epic!

  • the music in combat at 4:40.. pouaaahhh

  • Ah, hearing that music start up was like arriving at the promised land... But getting there was tough, especially trying to free up those last few K of ram in config.sys.

  • yeah i love this game locking looks like the result

  • gotta luv the tomahawk with cam

  • Any major credit card accepted! (during refueling) :)

  • This game was so epic, the best flight sim ever.

  • damn i miss the 90s, the golden years for video games, hell i still have this cd don't know if will work in a modern pc lol!

  • ahhhhhh ....the good old days of Dos simulation era

I dont know if it is me or the old dos games were more entertaining than these stuff today

  • @ThunderofBabylon

It's not just you. If you think about it, this game has far more to offer than, for example, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. Newer games generally only win in graphics and sound department (obviously), but in terms of ideas and originality, games like TFX or Deus Ex or Fallout or Alone In The Dark (the first one from 1992) are on the same level (or even better) than today's high budget titles.

  • I used to play this game on my father's company laptop back in the time. I was always waiting for him to come back from office to start playing. Tons of hours of great fun. Just to learn how to land your plane was something. I remember the night mission with the stealth-117 bomber... And the soundtrack was amazing. Great memories!

  • Oh, man, thank you so much for this. I've been wanting to find this exact thing, but I figured it would be too obscure to bother looking for.

  • I cherish the days I've had with DOS and SoundBlaster deeply. The SoundBlaster, Adlib and Gravis Ultrasound sound cards have given me a great experience, feels great to hear them again.

  • This game made almost made be become a fighter pilot. I still might.

  • why these pioneers didnt continue this series? they could have moved with the tech making real time modern games.

  • The Death music(CD) was sad and adequate, the Redbook audio was great!!!

The best simulator on it's days.

  • wow 14-15 years ago ... my first pc-game ... pentium I 75 .... it was my first game in 1996.

  • They had Missile view, so cool

  • This game is like 10³ times better than Hawx and AC!

  • @kirovxq These games aren't even the same genre. Although everybody calls them flight sims

  • @Stilgarsan Hawx and AC aren't flight sims, they are just arcade.

In TFX you have to learn how to land, how to flight, you have FUEL, gravity problems.

The problem of these new games is that they are too easy because thats what people like, easy things... in hawx and AC you have ilimited fuel, like 100 missiles or even more, the pilot is a robot that gravity doesn't affect him, there is no gears, etc. TFX demands 11MB of memory and it's more realistic than these (boring)new Flight sims games.

  • The "death music" used to give me the creeps! It sounds a little different on this version than the one I ran as a kid.

  • unbelievable how many hours i spend with this game. it was soooo awesome and still is. thanks for the video :D

  • funny enough, after 17 years or so: When I dream about flying in combat its still that cockpit ^^

  • sweet childhood memories. I never forget when I made my first landing on a carrier or my first midair fueling :D ... and at that time I couldn't read one word in english.

  • Half Life 2 has better graphics

  • Sweet Jesus, i havent seen that one for quite a while :O One of the best games I can remember from my childchood :):):)

  • Thanks for sharing! It's so many years ago I played this excellent game in my childhood, great times!

  • Autopilot off.. Pull up... shhhhrrrk Pull up.. shhhrrk srrkk Pull up..

  • I played this game like crazy when I was a kid! I thought it was the most advanced flight sim lol.

  • TRACKING... missile launched!

  • first computer gamy ive ever played.. ( together with Psycho pinball^^) EPIC MUSIC <3

  • anyone have this game damn?????

  • How can I start this game ? I'm already have the DOS BOX, but always when I go to start the game, the progam doesn't complete the operation. Does anybody knows how to execute this game ? Plz help me. thanks

  • @SirFlag Yes, you need clear Read only attribute for all files in the TFX directory and all subdirectories. As well I recommend to set the directory rights to "Everyone" recursively for TFX directory and subdirectories (full rights). But I guess your problem is in read only files.

  • TRACKING!

  • I still have the manual for this game..It's more like a novel..Great sim for it's age..

  • Funny how I took the time to learn to play this game when I was young. Nowadays it takes too much time and efford to the same.

  • @PjotrStroganov hell ya i here that, those were the good old days.

  • haha i always rammed the refueler...i loved the "mayday maday im going down!" :D

  • WOW, brings back tons of memories of my first PC.

You could fly upside down like a few meters above the ground and then eject the pilot and watch him splatter to bits on the ground.

    very cool.

  • @sagabrush

    fuckin ace, I remember that

Only managed to pull it off once though, being a kid and all

  • I used to love this game. It had great graphics for its time.

  • yep another DOS gamer here :D

the first time I saw this I was in my cousin's shop late 93'. the first impresion was the intense combat music , very repetitive indeed. but intense

  • Whats the ingame song in the TFX's soundtrack? It's very intense at 5:09 and 5:42 despite a 8-bit DOS soundcard or the like used in the video.

  • I played this all day :D YEAH!

  • toasted boggie

  • This is my favorite flight-sim of all time.

"Knock if off!! Knock if off!! Let's call it a day..."

  • Damn good song from my childhood...classic like the Skyroads intro music :)

  • Man how I miss this game! I still have it on CD, I wish I could get it to work on XP. Any ideas?

  • Try DOSbox ;0)

  • Comment removed

  • does this music has to do anything with alien sex fiend? i know it was made by barry leitch.

this game rocked! i usually just flied above the clouds till the bingo fuel hit.

    "looks like a lizard!"

  • oh wow back then i never noticed the open UN propaganda lol

i played TFX, ef2000 and f22 taw myself alot. someone should make a good sequel with modern graphics and same good old gameplay :3

  • Anyone who has this " REALtec HD Audio Manager "

Set this to play and put settings: sound effects to ROCK and Sewer Pipe ... It sounds AMAZING

  • looks like a lizzard!

  • Looks like a spiritual successor to X-29 Retaliator

  • forgot to mention that music was great.

  • yesh great memories. spend my childhood playing this game, then got ps1 and gran turismo.

  • i miss that game so much..i spent hours playing it!!

I've downloaded it and downloaded DOSBox but it doesn't run....=(

  • such a blalst from the past....

i grew up on this game..

    thank you for uploading!

  • good game. i played ef2000 like crazy myself.

just the begin is clearly UN propaganda lol

  • Thanks for uploading this, brigs back great memories.

  • Reminds me of JetFighter II.

  • Shame that this video clip uses the Microsoft Midi most basic sounds.. if you put the sounds on best quality the soundtracks to this game are brilliant.

  • My childhood right here. When everybody was learning their multiplication tables I was playing this shit. Hearing the theme once again almost reduced me to tears.

    'Looks like the lizard!'

  • I know exactly what you mean, it chokes me up too : )

God damn this game was brilliant, I'd love to play it again. Hell, I might soon!

Did you ever find this game really hard? I could never seem to get past the early levels before, and landing on an aircraft carrier? Don't go there!

    'Tracking... Missile launched!'

  • Yeah I was never able to land on the bloody carrier either. The one time I lucked out and actually landed on it, I remember jumping out of my chair and cheering.

As for the game's difficulty itself, well I played it A LOT so eventually I got the hang out of almost everything. But that took a looong time.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. That's some nice luck though, in the early stages I could barely get off the bleeding carrier! I remember when I'd pull off the edge of the runway, and slowly pull up, thinking "I'm off! I'm off!" only to fall backwards into the sea

  • This game is killer! I sucked at the carrier landings too...until I found auto-land, haha!

The game over solo is heartbreaking.

  • "Toasted bogey!" ;-)

  • @DeathwishXIII yeah allways wondred what that looks like a lizard was all about , or was is rather lockes with a laser?

  • @vtwinmesa I think "Lizard is a colloquial term for the wing leader" Or something, so looks like the lizard would mean the wing leader

  • @DeathwishXIII a billion thumbs up for that !!

  • @DeathwishXIII LOL, so it wasn't just my imagination, the pilot does say 'Looks like the lizard!'. All these years of anguish have finally be quashed.

  • @DeathwishXIII I was 4 when my dad start playing this. Now 16 years later we are playing Il2 sturmovik everyweek on lan.

  • please someone do a vid of Inferno as well..

  • Very Cool Guy!!! I love this game do you have another video of this game ? Post on youtube if you have please of send to me ;D

  • still one of my fav flight sims. later sims with the textures ruined it for me. flat polys give a better sense of depth/immersion.

  • This game remained on my wishlist, as my 286 at the time wouldn't run it.

  • What a game, I loved it.

Loved how you ejected at low level at SPLAT!!! lol

  • This game was incredible. I got it for free with a video card and i played it on a 400mhz P2. The music in this game made u feel like your flying in top gun.

  • i contacted the barry leitch on msn messenger and asked for the musics and he gave me all of them in mp3!

its sad that i cannot share these musics cuz he forbade me to do so.

  • I had a PCM soundcard with sampled sounds at that time (cost me 630 Deutschmarks then, about 350 Euros nowadays) and the music sounded even better.

  • how many cycles do you use in dosbox?

  • Thanks for the vid, I also have the muisc from the CD. If anyway wants it, PM me.

  • Anyone know where I can download the music for this game?

  • I absolutely loved the melancholy music and color palette this game used, and it was absolutely fun to boot.

My favorite memory was using the mouse in arcade mode, dodging missiles by flipping the F-22 into instant 180 degree turns.

If I recall correctly, you could also fly the KC-135 around after you attached for refueling. XD

  • from what i remember this game doesn't have any rudder control...anyone care to confirm?

  • how much I loved that game on my 386 SX40! It had it's own mood...

  • AWESOME GAME!! I used to play it on amiga 500 and and that time it was the BOOYA!

Very disappointing was the sequel "Super EF2000" though.

  • Sorry buddy, but wasn't this game only released for the A1200/4000 featuring the AGA Chipset? I had an A1200 with 2 meg of Chip Ram and 16 meg of Fast Ram with an additional 68030 accelerator running at 50Mhz and it STILL ran really slow! .. An A500 running at 7Mhz would not have cut it, also due to the fact it had the OCS/ECS Chipset.

  • I've recorded a video of this game running on my Amiga 1200 with 68060 cpu and 32 meg RAM. It's up there in the video responses. With the detail set fairly high, it's painfully slow, and not much better with it set low.

Needless to say, there's no way in hell an A500 could run the game.

  • One of the best aircraft simulations ever made. I wish TFX and EF2000 could work properly on Vista:/

  • As a kid I played this game A LOT!! This game was fun

  • These songs were just plain .wav files, I think. You could just play them in your CD player. And I did. And it was awesome.

  • Not this version of the music, the cd version is way better in quality, but it's basically the same composition, which rox on itself

  • This was available for Amiga too! :)

  • Used to play this game a lot with a mouse ^^

  • btw does anyone know where to obtain soundtrack for the CD version?

  • no! I really want the CD soundtrack. its awesome

  • its on the cd if you still have it. put it onto itunes.

  • I have this one original :D

loved it.. and i got it back in 1996 when it was old and EF2000 was allready out. and amazed me because despite being in low-res (320X240) it was fun, deep and very involving

  • Wow, very nice song! VERY NICE!

    You´ve it uploaded?

  • Back in 1994 when i did an interview for an internship at the OCEAN company based in Paris.

The guy gave my that game. Nice form him.

  • I have to add, if you want the music contact me , ill upload it into my server.

The game is possible to play using an ms dos emulator in your vista pc (or xp) called DosBox.

The game by itself its about only 18Mb

Play EF2000 with TFXs music is the absolute combination

  • Hello,

TFX is a game of my youth, if you understand me. I have always loved the music, but now it's impossible to get it. Do you know something I could do? Thanks

  • hey can you help to install and play tfx i´ve the DOS box but i can´t play it can you help me

  • I have the game and still play it, and the music ripped all in mp3s.

Funny, I have always thought that this is the best music for a game EVER made.

Track 3 is my powersong on my ipod when running.

  • BTW i loooved to press the f6 key (i think it was f6) and watch the afterburner real-time cinematic

  • hah me too! I still instinctively press it with other flight sims...

  • i used to play this and other computer games like retribution and red baron with my cousin when we were like 10...good times

  • i searched the whole internet didnt find its music.

so i contacted barry leitch.music composer of tfx and he gave me all of them :D

but i cant share cause of copyright cause he didnt alllow me to spread it.

  • I loved this game, I never played it for real though. I would always try to eject and land on a factory smokestack!

  • first simulator i played. loved this game.

  • just searched this to listen the intro music after maybe 8 years, loved long time ago, still great, hahaha.

  • oh yea the fkn into music so awsome aye

  • I had the CD version, I use to listen to just the music, lol. That is until I left my cd in a CD-ROM drive I sold :( Now, no more TFX music for me :(

  • I still have it, if you want the music PM me. The music in this game was really cool... flying a Eurofighter over land and sea with lightning and enemy targets all around and beneath you while hearing those whining guitarsolos still sends shivers down my spine. It gave a real sense of power or something... thanks to the music and the great graphics and atmosphere in that game. The cameradrop and flyby was great too!

  • Do you have the CD version music? Or the floppy disk version?

  • I have the CD version. Ripped the music to mp3 format.

  • I had this game on my 486DX. The best thing in this game was music which I love to listen even now days.

  • LOOKS LIKE THE LIZARD

  • It's not Lizard, it's Barry Leitch. The best version is IMO on Roland's MT-32 (not Adlib)

  • IMO not:) I get some mp3s from Cosmic Dreams. I would like to rerecord these tracks using my synthesizers and other stuff but I don't know how to rip music from this game.

  • lol guys thats what the computer says inthis game when you got a lock on "Docking Looks like the lizzard" lol cant beleave i remberd that classic game love it forlife

  • holy shit, i remember this game was so awesome

  • uyyyy!!!! que recuerdos!!!!!! que grositud este juego!....el viejo ese que te daba las misiones donde esta?

  • great game

  • I loved this game soooooo hard!!!! Is there any newer game thats just a little bit like this?

    "BANDITS BANDITS BREAK BREAK"

Those AMRAAM were really the ultimate "fire and forget" beasts.

  • They made many spiritual successors after TFX. In '96, DID released EF-2000.. the year after that, F22:ADF, then in another year, Total Air War.

Flights sims in general are thin these days.. you can get the original F4 and mod it (I'd rather do that than get AF) or LOMAC. But TFX had its own feel to it; reminded me of a much better Jetfighter II (3 and beyond were terrible)..

  • Yes, I already fond out that the newest these days is LOMAC and I got it for about 10 bucks, but it doesnt give me the feeling I had with TFX because. Maybe I'll try Falcon4 if I find it. They say it has a better campaign..

What a pity that just shooter after shooter gets released and most Air Combat games are Arcade and WW2...

BTW: You can download TFX at abandonia :)

  • This game was quite easy to play with a mouse... on a 486DX of course.

  • this is massive!!!

  • I was so addicted to this simulator...

  • i remember being so stoked when i first landed the jet in this game, such an achievement; and cracking up when i ejected upside down near the ground to have the pilot splat on the ground. such an awesome game.

  • I ejected upside-down all the time as well, hilarious.. also, weren't there farmers with shotguns on the ground as well (seemingly a nod to Flight of The Intruder)? I know there were AA soldiers, but I seem to remember the farmer thing also. Either way, many laser guided bombs were dropped on clothing-armored targets.

  • este juego era groso..... es de la epoca en que todavia iba a bailar a caix.....

  • Do you have more videos of this game?

  • The inferno's demo video was included in the original CD of TFX, along with the high quality soundtracks. The soundtracks are great, and I still listen to them from time to time.

    TFX was revolutionary.

  • This is one of the best flight sims made. Virtual cockpit, camera views.

Someone make a video of Inferno - same as TFX only space sim. If you like this, definitely check inferno.

  • Man what a recognition :D, I still have it. Spend last week a few hours to get it running in win98, It runst OK without sound. But TFX is very picky on the Soundblaster. I use DOS mode SB 128, with full SB 16 emulation. Music is choppy :(, Great vid ;)

  • Take a look at ebay. Bought a copy of mine for 1 euro, just for the music... I think it was worth it.

  • God, that theme music. Used to play this loads on a 486 DX66, fantastic game. Dad bought it new for me when it was released, 'coz I was a right royal fan of Flight of the Intruder.

    Great fun and very advanced.

Always remember the really sad music over the KIA or MIA screens!

  • I also used to play it on a 486DX2/66. I remember that I upgraded my computer to shorten the loading time :) It used to take exactly 1 minute with 4MB of RAM, and I managed to take the time down to 30 secs with 8MB :)

  • Congrat! for the video, I played this game in 1995/96 for the first time and I stayed many nigths in front of the screen, (that me be is the result to use glasses hehehe). Well the thing is i can´t play now this game because apears an error, (demo file missing). Can anyone tell me how can i resolve this problem?

Thanks and sorry about my english!!!

    Goblin (Duende)

  • this game was sold in a CD full of music, I know this is not the right place to ask for this, but if you know how to get it send me a message pls

  • CD? :/ it was like 7 floppies :/ as for the music, i've been searching for it for a while and haven't been able to find it

  • Yeah, I had the CD aswell. It was great because it brought the manual in the game.

  • I just never knew there was a CD edition...and yes, the manual which gave handy hints like telling you you've got a brake chute and flares/chaff etc :P

  • Yeah, I *love* the CD and the music on it. Still some of my favorite game music ever.

  • i agree

  • Plz guy put more videos of this game !!!!! xD

    Or send to me !!!!

  • I'm love this game it was my childhood!!!!

plz guy don't take out this video.

  • you can also get the games from the-underdogs

  • use dosbox

  • I loved this game. What a shame I no longer have DOS. If only they made this for XP!

  • I actually used DOSbox (as mentioned already) to make this recording... running XP here. :)

  • put More Videos of this game plz!!!! :)
