This theme reminds me of the Duke teams of the late 90s/early 2000s. Trajan Langdon, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, Shane Battier, Mike Dunleavy Jr, Jay Williams, Carlos Boozer.... I loved those teams when I was a kid and am still a diehard Duke fan.
Does anyone have the ESPN Championship Week theme from c. 1992-1993? This song was used ONLY during championship week. It had a much more serious tone to it than the regular college BBall theme at the time.
There was an episode of Cheap Seats in which Randy and Jason Sklar were ripping on a telecast of a high school basketball slam jam which contained this music, and they made up their own lyrics to the song. It was pretty funny.
@FutureNewsAnchor Oh ok, my bad. I'm guessing the one I was talking about was when Randy and Json were doing an episode on the 1995 High School Slam Dunk Contest, where Kevin Garnett and Vince Carter competed at the time.
This theme should be renamed: "The downfall of IU". They were a powerhouse program all through the 70's, 80's, and up until 1994, when long story short, Coach Knight let his assistants start doing the majority of the recruiting on his behalf. IU Will rise again and return to being one of the elites.
This brings back good memories...great theme song...I hate how ESPN hardly ever even uses a theme song during CBB anymore...they just play some random rock song as they go into commercial...pretty lame...
This was a great theme song. Too many times ESPN just makes a change in music just for the sake of change. The current theme is decent but it is inferior to this song.
The worst ESPN music downgrade was when they went from the old baseball music to the boring theme they currently use for baseball.
@NJDevils015, are you talking about the Baseball Tonight Theme? I agree on that one-it is too fast, might as well use no theme at all. But their Sunday Night Baseball Theme is their best musical update. This theme could and should still be used.
Once again, an ESPN theme song from the '90's is far better than the current monotonous garbage they use now. Same goes for their graphics and studio sets.
This was such a great theme. I wonder what month in 1995 that ESPN started this theme. By the way, does anyone remember the 1991-1995 theme ESPN used for its College Basketball telecasts?
I think this theme was used for all their college basketball telecasts beginning with the 1994-1995 season and ending at the conclusion of the 2000-2001 season.
I am not sure. I think early in the 1994-1995 season, they still used the 1991-1992 season theme song. However, I do remember them using this song from like March of '95-early March 2001.
You might be right. I actually do not know for sure because we did not have cable T.V. back in 1994-1995. I just assumed that ESPN as well as most other networks don't change their theme song in the middle of the season. It seems rare that networks change their theme songs in the middle of the season. Maybe this was one of those rare exceptions?
I think the theme you are talking about is a remixed and slower version of this theme. I think it was used from the 2001-2002 to 2003-2004 college basketball seasons. The current theme has been used since the 2004-2005 college basketball season to present.
I wish I had that theme, but unfortunately, I don't.
@nillawafer16 That is my favorite version! The current theme is a pile of garbage, but I have yet to find the 01-04 theme on this site. It's used in the College Hoops 2K5 PS2/Xbox game, though. So maybe you could get it off that.
Best theme they've ever had. Bring it back!

Even though I lived (and still live) in ACC territory, this theme reminds me of the 1995 and 1997 ACC Tournaments.

ESPN actually still uses a Theme Song for when they go to Commercials.

Yes, I remember this. Back to the old days where Bob Carpenter did all the Big Monday WAC broadcasts. Those were the days.
