  • Lovely music! What is that instrument? I want to try playing that song.

  • Thank you! :) The instrument is called a panpipe (or 'panflute', as people seem to prefer these days). It's a wonderfully portable instrument, as you can see. Good luck with the piece if you give it a try. :)

  • The Friendly Giant them song is an English ballad(?), called "Early One Morning." Thanks for the performance! Another thing I've noticed, is the CBC never repeats any of its old programming, either on TV or CBC Radio, so once the shows are gone, they're gone forever.

No CBC Classic; I also miss their "Transcontinental" Radio program with the late Otto Lowy (that was on every Sunday at 1:00 p.m., I believe) so much!

  • Glad you enjoyed the performance. :) I'm afraid I never listened much to the radio, but it would be nice to think some of the old shows you miss might still be on tape somewhere in a vault where they might be discovered some day.

  • I remember when CBC also had "The British Comedy Hour ("Allo, Allo;" "Bless Me Father,"Doctor In The House")

Now the only British show they have is Coronation Street. IMO, the CBC has also dumbed down a bit, with a lot of Canadian comedy shows and even reality shows being the mainstay of their programming.

  • I rememer 'Doctor in the House'; it's been over 20 years since I watched TV very much, but I hear it's a wasteland, even more so, these days. (Never could stand the theme music for 'Coronation Street' - depressed the heck out of me!)

  • There's some info about the show at the CBC website; the CBC has some artifacts from the show on display at its main building in Toronto, Canada.

The show originally started on a U.S. Educational Televison station (a forerunner of wwhat is now PBS), I believe in the state of Minnesota, but found its final home on the CBC. It was a great kids show, and was nothing like the modern degenerate cartoon programs that are now promoted as childrens' entertainment.

  • I think there is some information about the Friendly Giant TV program at the CBC webpage, and they said they have some of the stuff from the show on display at the main CBC building in Toronto, Canada.

Do you also remember the "Wizard of OZ" cartoons that were shown usually after or before The Friendly Giant?? The Munchkins were real tiny, like half a foot-one foot tall.

"We're Three said souls, oh me oh my /No Brain, no Heart, he's much too shy"??

  • Yes, I watched the "Wizard of Oz" cartoons too (you can find them here on YouTube!). They're still good, even though the animation is primitive.

  • I grew up in Michigan so we got the Canadian shows too...I was hoping to find some footage of the actual show, wonder if there is any anywhere if it's not on YouTube? I remember when he set up all the tiny furniture, I was really fascinated and wanted to play SO bad with all of it!

  • I haven't checked around, but with so many shows being on YouTube and the like, I'm pretty sure it's got to be around somewhere.

(I liked the tiny furniture too. Would make a nice addition to my collection. ;) )

  • I did find some footage on the website for the Canadian trust. Sooo great!

  • A little rocking chair to rock in,Love seat for two to curl up on.There's that big boot. Now look up,up,waaaay up!

  • I loved the Friendly Giant!

  • Me too. I still remember the moon rising over the castle at the end of the show with the harp playing. So nice!

    Now where's Rusty? ;)
