  • 0:41 He did the 93'

  • DO A BARREL RO.... dahhh too late :(

  • I wish the footage of the actual roll were clearer.

  • He sounds like James Stewart. "What's that Harvey? You say you want to fly upside down?! Well alright then. Let's fly upside down."

  • more of a corksrew than a roll

  • @nouseforausername794 Well, you can't exactly do an aileron roll in a large aircraft without a lot of yaw.

  • From take off to the roll....its like me when i had a go a flight sim game.

  • This was back when men were really men and Americans still had a sense of humor and daring. Any pilot who did that now in this cowardly politically correct climate would be immediately unemployed.

  • @rsattahip totally true

  • I can do that... In Just Cause 2.

  • Why IOTA !

  • I like this guy! No wonder they used the 707 as Air Force 1. The President of the United States probably saw this demo and said, "yeup, that's the plane I want!"

  • I hate his voice its horrible

  • this man is a god. he should be looked up to by all aviators and respected by all aviation enthusiasts. atleast i think so

  • Did you take this video with a potato?

  • Hahaha 1 dollar! Luv it

  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video, I would have one dollar.

  • 240p, HELL YEA!

  • Cool manuver

  • in soviet russia jumbo jet roll you

  • Would the Airbus computers let him do that?

    At least Boeing ain't boring!

  • which pixel is the plane?

  • I soviet russia, plane rolls you.

  • @MrEreda In Uranus, people don't make faggoty comments.

  • @RSHelpersInc In your mum, I jizzed.

  • @MrEreda LOL MAN U R SO ORIGINAL LOLOLOLOL HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH L.O.L

  • great brave pilot, what a big challenger

  • STUD.

  • wow

  • Wow, that man is defintly one of the best aviators to have lived. To try that, he must have had some balls of steel, may hat goes off to you sir! Rest In Peace <3

  • @bullseatpizza If he was still alive, he'd be kickin' ass and chewin' bubblegum... But then find out he's all out of gum.

  • interesting stuff.

  • How awesome would it be if Airline made this compulsory for their pilots to do on every flight!!!

  • What a boss

  • Rest In Peace Tex.

  • We need more pilots like him! What happened to today's pilots? Sure they're top notch but can they fly a plane like that without fail?

  • Good ol' Tex pressed Z or R twice,Peppy would be proud.:D

  • @Aerozyphyr "Tex, try a somersault!!"

  • @AltitudeWarrior

    Bob Hoover

  • There was a guy years ago who also did loop the loops and rolls with a Shrike Commander with dead engines. He always put a glass of water over the panel consol as proof that there were never any negative Gs. Anybody remember his name? If Tex never pulled negative Gs, then I am sure the plane could cope.

  • Comment removed

  • I can imagine the airplane yelling at him, BANK ANGLE, BANK ANGLE, BANK ANGLE the entire time.

  • Giant great frreaking balls of fire!!!!

  • you have to have BALLS of reinforced titanium to do a roll, in that heavy of a plane!

  • The world badly needs more people like Tex. His boss might have called him into the office, but I'll bet it took everything he had to keep from grinning like a child even as he said "don't do it again".

  • @RUDEGOOD No, the Meucci design wasn't capable of transmitting intelligible speech, and Meucci's description showed no understanding of the science behind it, so he was unlikely to have been able to improve it. Really, the telephone was an invention whose time had come. Dozens of inventors were playing with the concepts at that time.

  • crazy ass big set of brass balls ass dude...niceeeeee...RIP dude...

  • If you search "badass" on google images, a picture of Tex Johnson will show up

  • DO A BARRELL ROLL!

  • @tquasa A barrell roll? A barrell roll

  • wow

  • my father saw this in person

  • Didn't think that was possible. That is one way to apprehend a hijacker. lol

  • This is one of the reasons I love 707s! :-D

  • Haha, those WWII vets had some serious balls.

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • Do a barrel roll!

  • LUKIEST PILOT EVER!!!!!!!!! not for diong the manuver (I'm not saying it was'nt cool) but for keeping his job!!!!!

  • omg. David Copperfield made it disappear!

  • i love how people used to talk a long time ago =)

  • one of the best test pilots of his time

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • @leorrixx USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH!!!

  • darn you old people always have the fun

  • i think it isn t real.... or??

  • Aircav6, it is not a barrel roll. Dick

  • u not anything about maneuver

  • Is that english?

  • if you really do know English, you wouldnt ask that question

  • Well actually English is my main form of communication. I can also speak a few other lingos too. My question was in relation to the comment, "u not anything about maneuver". For a start, what does this question mean? I have to guess that there is a word missing. Perhaps you were trying to state, "You do not know anything about this maneuver." Well actually I do. I have performed this stunt many times in smaller aircraft.

I have my statement clears up any thought of my English ability.

  • You meant to say:

"I HOPE my statement clears up any thought of my English ability"

    Yes, yes it does.

  • Yes, haste causes spelling mistakes sometimes.

I have a small amount of time on Earth too.

  • wow, that is a long reply and there really is no need to do that, btw I meant to say "u NO anything about maneuver?" and dont even try to reply saying what is NO. and tape yourself doing that stunt and see how well you do. how bout that 747

  • What? "U No anything about maneuver" still is not quite right surely. I have completed this sort out stuff in a Robin 2160. Ah 707? I give up.

  • @roastoo00ooveges If you cant even understand that line, then i dont no who the heck you are

  • I am the leader of the Axis of Evil.

  • @roastoo00ooveges like I care

  • fuck off, i love the way nobody else noticed that you mentioned you'd done it yourself... upset? twat.

  • Oh yeah, it really ripped my undies. So, you like to start arguements?

  • not particularly, well only if i'm against someone with more than 4 brain cells thank you very much, which means no americans...

  • Type stupid americans into the YT search box. Go for the first result with the blonde girl. No arguement there.

  • I have five cells, or more.

  • hahah that is quite funny... :L

  • @ChrisMiller1994 Hey! I'm American, and I have Five, count 'em, FIVE braincells thankyouverymuch!

  • @Esharhamat hahah lol'd at that one,,,

  • @ChrisMiller1994 Screw you!!!! If americans are so stupid how did we discover electricity? How did we invent the light bulb and the phonogragh? Or how did we break the sound barrier and invent the internet (which your are currrently using, YOUR WELCOME). How did we put a man on the moon and invent the first reusable space craft? And to top it all off, lets see your "euro fighter" take on an all american F-22 RAPTOR!!!! And if you piss us off just see what we invent, go ahead ask Japan!

  • @Vyppaaa11 and that attitude ruins all good perspectives. go invent a massive cock flourish... oh no wait...

  • @ChrisMiller1994 You can say we're vulgar, unrefined or crude but you can't deny we are smart enough to invent enough things that without us, the world would be a far different place. (IE:telephone, lightbulb, airplanes and helicopters) Say anything you want about us being unrefined but don't call us stupid. Also, your channel says your from the united states, why are you insulting america?

  • @Vyppaaa11 telephone alexander bell was scottish and emigrated to canada just worked in boston .Lightbulb invented 1841 british inventor..edison merely improved it, helicopter first one was built by a frenchman 1907 "father of helicopter" sikorsky improved immensely but unfortunately for your comment was russian by birth. The american people have invented a lot..aircon,FM radio the transistor use these examples next time

  • @arkerry I america we don't care where you are from. Once you are hear you are american. Edison made the lightbulb actually usefull. The british version was merly a proof of concept that really did'nt work as a "lightbulb" but more of a "glow bulb". But if I'm coming off offensive I apologize. I think you are on my side in this conversation.

  • @arkerry

Some people just don't get it. Americans ARE British, French, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc. That's what makes us great, we ARE the rest of the world, combined in one place, working together. You hate America, you hate a little bit of yourself.

More patents come out of the US, by the way. By a long shot.

  • @ChrisMiller1994 youre some loser who clearly noone likes. Its like corkey giving you advice on how not to be a retard. Thanks for the advice but I think i'll pass

  • @bl4h1 Christ the ammount of time ago i posted that comment I might aswell be deid by now! haha

  • yeah....not a chandelle. Pretty sure that's not what they were requesting on my commercial check ride.

  • Rest in peace Tex. One of the greatest aviators EVER!!!

  • @Oneman1life2live yea baby if its not boeing im not going!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Oneman1life2live This manoveur is a fake, it is impossible do roll with a 707 without lost its wings, sorry!

  • @zimmermann10 Why do you say that? Is it because you wreck every time you try it on FSX or FS2004? It can be done in any plane with speed and ability.

  • @zimmermann10 I have 10000 hours on Bandeirante(twin-engined), and 2000 hours on cargo DC-8,sorry!

  • @zimmermann10 its a 1 g manuever.... you are putting the same load on the wings as you are flying right side up or with it sitting on the ground. Granted.... you will loose a lot of altitude and a lot of K, but as long as you come out of it in a proper nose-down attitude at a high enough altitude there is no reason why that aircraft should not be able to do that manuever. You are not putting placing any unintended forces on the frame... nor are you exceeding Vne (if you do it correctly).

  • @zimmermann10 there are two types of pilots. regular noner pilots like you and myself who just fly normally maybe the most extreme thing we do is make a landing in a 40kt crosswind with 1/4 mile visability. and then there are test pilots. look into their world, its pretty amazing what has been done by doing the "impossible". next for the airforce and NASA testing is supersonic heavy aircraft.

  • @zimmermann10 - the "manoveur" may be a fake, but the maneuver most certainly is real. That is Tex Johnson, man!!

  • @zimmermann10

So that fact that this actually happened and that there is news articles videos and pictures about it isn't proof enough for you.

  • actually what Tex performed was is known as a barrel roll - if done correctly, as he did, it is as he said a one-G maneuver, just like flying straight and level, unless you look outside, you could pour water from a pitcher into a glass and not spill a drop.

  • get over it ffs

  • you mean utter nonsense right?

    yeah, I thought so.

  • @miked860, Yeah, me and 40,000 other people on YouTube alone are just complete whack-jobs. Try using contrail-formation science and observing the sky for a couple months before jumping to ill-informed conclusions. watch?v=zsXfqHp7G-g

  • okay, for a second let's just say your load of bullshit is real. What exactly are you doing about it besides posting ignorant comments on youtube?

  • @miked860, I've posted a few dozen videos, spread about 500 DVD copies of "Dont talk about the weather" around my town, woken up family, friends, neighbours, people on the street. etc.

  • What a hero. There aren't many of those guys left anymore. Sad as it is.

  • I wonder if people can do roll to on their motorbikes while driving...

  • If my memory serves correctly, I learned many years ago that this particular demonstration is what convinced General Curtis Lemay to choose the KC-135 as the first jet propelled air refueler for the Strategic Air Command. I had the pleasure of flying on board conversions, EC-135Es, that supported the SAC Airborne Command Post. The ECs flew for 25 or more years and I had the honor of flying on those amazing aircraft for seven years. What an amazing machine. My pleasure to serve. Dan-O

  • @addi138 because i didnt realise it was possible to do that, its information in my eyes, i read old books too.

  • you kno after he landed that thing he drove home, sat down in his favorite chair, and cracked his favorite brand beer open and took a sip with the biggest fucking grin on his face

  • lols that guy has some balls

  • He looks like Jack Albertson and sounds like Jimmy Stewart

  • haha Totally right!

  • I was drunk on an airliner in '99 and was getting rowdy, so the pilots did a 9g immelman and took me back to the airport.

  • congrats :/

  • Bc if an airliner can do a barrel roll it's probably a pretty sturdy airframe and demonstrates that the aircraft is a sturdy and capable aircraft for the commercial market.

  • no, the barrel rol lis a 1 g menauver that puts absolutely no stress on the airframe - exactly as muchg as if it was in level flight. let an aerobatic pilot tell you that :-)

  • Like Tex said, it's just a 1 g manuver, but looks very impressive to the execs with the big bucks who are buying it.

  • But why would an airliner ever have to do a barrel roll?

  • because its fucking awesome.

  • @godzilla74114 The resultant drama was funny as well. After performing two barrel-rolls over Lake Washington during the 1955 SeaFair to the shock of Boeing execs and awe of airline execs, Tex flew back to the airport and was fired. After orders started pouring in, he was reinstated. Tex's rolls were Boeing's best advertising campaign.

  • Comment removed

  • that guy is a badass.

  • @TokyozzFinest

Yeah, he actually lived in the same neighborhood Bill Gates does now. These guys were a real big deal back then when Boeing was the shit.

  • Tex was a test pilot back in the 40-50s and flew the Bell x-1 and I think, the Douglas sky rocket-uh yup, I'd say he was qualified alright !

  • i dont like her engines

  • most pilots really are cowboys at heart! gotta love it

  • You don't need 1 g to keep the fuel flowing on a 747. The fuel is not gravity fed like in the Cessna 152 or 172. 747s have fuel pumps. The purpose of keeping a 1 g throughout the roll is to make sure you don't overstress the aircraft as it is so big and heavy. It's easy to have a structual failure if you do it wrong, because a 747 was not built for such maneuvers.

  • @plsniper It's a 707 and just because the fuel is pumping does not mean the pickups in the tanks are covered. Maintaining a g-load ensures the fuel stays on the bottom of the tank.

  • @jizzmonger I was answering dva2408, he was talking about a 747. I know that the one in the film is a 707.

  • @plsniper Your right about keeping it at 1 G to keep from damaging the aircraft. BUT. he is right partialy. Granted it would'nt make a differenc in such a quick roll, but flying inverted with less than on half positive G would cause most none acrobatic aircraft to lose fuel flow thus stalling the plane. But your right, it would'nt matter in a roll like this, but it would in a slower roll or a 4 point roll.

  • @plsniper this is a 707 though

  • @sssoaring2 Yes, I know. I was writing about a 747 because dva2408 and I were talking about 747s.

  • @plsniper oh right. Stupid me and not konwing context.

  • @sssoaring2 :) :) no problem man...

  • @plsniper wow the first argumentation i saw on the inernet with a happy ending. this is so great!

  • @BrainfuckEmt LOL!!... Yeah, I know what you mean, too many arguments here on youtube. :)

  • Those 707 are hard to takeoff. you need a long runway to takeoff. They do turn good too.

  • we don't want to know your experience on microsoft flight simulator, that was a real pilot talking and a real aeroplane!!!

  • its not in flight simulator! Ive been in one. It takes a couple of trys to take off on a short runway.

  • normally on take off you only get one try, especially on those pesky short runways you know only too well!!!!

  • i have a long runway...

  • fuck beans imagine being on there n not knowing that was goin to happen, how bad u would shit ur pants lol

  • Yea, what if you were on the crapper. Would the 1 G keep you on the seat. How bout it fly boys?

  • Why sonny, I remember back in the old days . . .

  • well shoot god damn you som bitch

  • NIIICE!!

  • 30 years ago I was a trainee pilot in the RAF - there was a rumour that an SA 747 had achieved a loop. Does anyone know if there is any truth behind the rumour/

  • No, cool as that would be to witness, the 747's center of gravity can only allow it to bank to maximum of 37.6 degrees. exceeding this would cause the aircraft to lose power and stall, it would be amazing if it could tough!

  • As he points out in the video, a proper barrel roll maintains constant 1g force you wouldn't even spill a drink if it's one perfectly. Anyway what has the center of gravity got to do with losing power?

  • I don't believe that, but that would be cool. maybe it's different high up in the air, but even at 1g here, if you spend too long upside down, a drink will spill.

  • nope, not if you keep the roll constant, centrifigual force keeps drinks in the glasses. Just watch Bob Hoovers Video, he pours tea while doing a roll in a twin engine plane.

  • No, you can spend 20 years upside down but if you can somehow maintain 1 G your drink will never spill.

  • If you stay at 1G, by _definition_, a drink will stay in glass... ROFL.

  • DO A BARREL ROLL! Lolol that was awesome.

  • Nice Starfox reference!

  • i think that too! LOL

  • Listen to this guys voice. He sounds just like Jimmy Stewart !

  • thats insane...how funny would that be to freak out a bunch of passengers!

  • Yeah I was thinking he sounded like James Stewart because they always do his voice on the Simpsons and thats what this guy reminded me of.

  • please correct me it was the 3675-80

  • naughty, don't do that again

  • nutty bastard! haha

  • that is friggin awesome!!!!

  • lowl

  • We were just up at the Boeing Air & Space Museum in Seattle last Saturday!!! That place is COOL!!! They have many displays...one is the SAM(Special Air Mission) 970 or used to be Air Force One...it was a 707, it is WOW to the fact that you can Barrel Roll that thing...They have Tex Johnson's Cowboy Boots on display in the Museum too... You should check the whole place out... Thank you for posting this very historical video...

    David

  • Has this ever been done since with any other airliner other than the old 707?

  • Yes, it has happened with 747 over pacific with full of passengers, which was not intentionally(of course) but an accident. All people onboard survived(I believe). New Boeings can do roll as long as you are flying high enough altitude and brain.

  • DO A BARREL ROLL!

  • :-O wow never saw THAT coming

  • BOBONG GWAPO!!!

  • Its not fake
