The argument that somehow the blacks in the south fought for the civil war, and that this implies that the war wasn't about slavery is bogus and patently false. It's comparable to the war in Iraq. If those who sent soldiers to Iraq told him the real truth and their real motives, there wouldn't be a war going on. It is about GOP Govenor John Rowland, Pfizer Pharma, and how a conservative Supreme Court ruled 5/4 that anyone can pretty much take your land away from you for ANY reason! Oh, side note! Those who use the "f" word need to expand their vocabulary and relinquish the ignorance associated with anger so that rationality will dominate; it is advantageous when talking about Supreme Court Nomination to consider both theories of judicial philosophy, including strict constructionism and liberal constructionism. But I would say a number of Republican-oriented individuals on this forum are not endorsing the view that the spirit of the law is very important.

What do you think? It's only been a few years that I've started paying attention to politics and the rest of that. Samuel Alito's hearing was heated but he got a free pass. Sotomayor's ruling on the reverse discrimination case seems to have provided sufficient ammunition to the Republicans, but it doesn't seem like there's much to incriminate her. It's funny to hear the Republicans demand a simple answer to disputed questions.

I think we will have to wail and see on how each sentor votes. But two of the sentors may not vote. Kennedy is not at 100% from his stroke and Byrd is in his 90s and time is catching up with him. So he may not be voting either. I got that from my congressman Jim McGovern.

I've studied comparative religion. I don't think anywhere did Mohammed say anything about destroying the West. If I'm quick to pass judgment, you're quicker. I do not condone the treatment of women and what many Islamic leaders are doing, but I know there are millions of peaceful Muslims who don't see it that way. What you're saying is not fair to them. Why not look at the Christian right and what they're saying. If they had their way, they would take people's civil rights and liberties away.
