EMP pulse would have destroyed all communications, vehicles (except old antiques) would not function, nor would any computers/radios etc. unless hardened (as in military). No lights either, or power, or well.. anything. Good show though, when did it end?

Well, they were hundreds of miles from the blast, so there is a plausibility that the EMP didn't reach them.

Then again, the ion-charged thunderstorm that rolled through would have probably burned the town down anyway, so I don't know.

But yeah, good show.

Another point on the "fuelishness" of it all...

A town of 5000 with farms all around would have several fuel (gas, diesel, propane and heating oil) suppliers with delivery trucks - they did not need to use a water tank.
