I'v'e got an 88 XR7 w/32,000 miles on it. Black, grey leather, analog gauges. What's some quick mods can make to make it run a bit horsy? Will Cat backs give it a little spit? Runs OK, but kind of a pooch.

If you want to see a little extra hp, you need to install shorty headers, high-flow H-Pipe and a true dual exhaust. The original y-pipe is very restrictive.  The factory hp for 88 is 155 hp, non-HO and speed density so there is very little you can do to the stock engine unless you spend some money. believe me. Good luck !

2 huge things you can do headers get some stock shorty headers from a mustang.

take it to a shop and put gears in it, I had a 87 with 373s and 410 gears. If you dont dive more then 30-40 miles a day get the 4:10s alllll ldayy long it will feel like a new car

WELL DONE,!!! to everyone that just goes yea but its got a 5.0 WRONG! The origional 5.0 that came with these cars were 5.0 non- highoutput like the mustangs they only put out 150 hp and that is not at the wheels.. For this cat to do this has had some major work on his half.. GREAT JOB!!!!

thanks man... This was from a few years ago, now I have 550 RWHP. This is a new motor with a S-Trim w/ 16lbs. boost. You're correct the original motor was a weak 150 hp. thanks again for the comments...
