You were probably getting CPU bottlenecks with dual 5970's on a i7 920. That's why it's not scaling all the way up to what it should be at.

@gmk120 Actually 2 x 5970's is more powerful than dual unlocked 6950's. 5970 is still more powerful than 6970. It's not a replacement, the 6990 will be. The short answer is: No. I do not get CPU bottlenecks, but I'm also overclocked to above 4Ghz now.

@gmk120 Well, not necessarily, if the i7 920 is overclocked quite a bit it couldbe fine. I use a i7 950 for dual 6970's but those are not as powerful as 5970's. Together they are more powerful than a single 5970, and they run just fine off of my 950 OC'd. The i7 980x would give you the best performance of course, or any xeon X56XX model. The Phenom II X6 may be six cores but it is very weak compared to the six core i7's.
