  • Thank you Villa-Lobos, to bring us so great music and inspiration, to grow as musicians, as human beings.

  • BOSS!

  • Gracias por compartir!

  • Anybody can hear that this tape is stretched, thats why its a half step down. I also have the score and it is CLEARLY in the key of E min NOT Eb min. Composers have NO reason to tune down a classical guitar. They would just write the score in Eb.

  • warum fehlt der Schluss?

    The ending is missing.

  • SUBLIME!!!!!

  • Isto é uma verdadeira Raridade!!

  • The pitch is a semi-tone FLAT. So he might actually be playing it faster if it were up to pitch. (unless he purposefully tuned flat.) Anyone know anything about this?

What is the source? There seems to be a section missing. . .

  • @GutterColin is that supposed to be funny or sumthing. faggot

  • The pitch is a semi-tone FLAT. So he might actually be playing it faster if it were up to pitch. (unless he purposefully tuned flat.) Anyone know anything about this?

    What is the source?

  • Despite the poor audio quality, this sounds so beautiful and musical...I've played this piece for the past two years and I think this is just the way it should be played...forget the John Williams, Christopher Parkening and Julian Brean versions...this version is simply soul stirring :)

  • OI !!

brinca o disco umas 4 veces. ....

  • This is a true, authentic rendition. It's like rediscovering this music after it has been totally denatured by non historically informed interpreters. Thanks for this precious document.

  • Very nice! Thank you. (TS)

  • Saber q esse kra eh brasileiro me deixa

bem mais orgulhoso de ser um tbm

    vlw Villa!!

  • Bellísimo. Que suerte poder escucharlo de sus manos.

  • I'm under the impression that Segovia edited the VL Preludes and Etudes. So, there will be differences from what VL plays and what everybody else plays...

  • @brtherjohn it's very possible, Ponce's compositions also were edited, some years ago Miguel Alcazar published a book containing the scores based on the originals and they are very different from the publications from schotts

  • For everybody that doesn't believe its the Maestro himself, this is a recording from 1940. The Choros no 1 is from 1920. There is a cd from SanCtus indeed with these recordings, where he plays alsopiano with the soprano Beate Rosenkreutzer.

  • É uma emoção ouvir o grande Villa-Lobos!

  • estou a tocas isto na guitarra agora :) é lindo

  • ....not to ramble but he plays like a composer. Performers are so afraid to tamper with anything. In fear of ridicule from competitors they sterilize everything and make really dull music. They literally do more injustice to composers by being that way. I'm glad this recording exists.

  • its so wonderful to hear this piece by the composer! i cant stand hearing it played anymore because every purest out there wants to sound like Bream or somebody else. Or just making it ridiculously serious. IT IS GUITAR MUSIC! Its a dance piece the way Villa Lobos plays it. Music of the people. Not music of tuxedos and conservatory training. The way he plays the rhythms is so very Brazilian. You just cant notate the subtleties.....

  • @10centguitar

Well said - it seems in general many guitar players seek to please other guitar players these days. Everything is very academia-oriented.

  • Genial !!

  • woah,the master himself

  • I find it hard to imagine that Villa-Lobos would forget or purposely change the structure of his own work. The ending is vital. Why would the master himself crucify the form of his own work?

  • Dear muzarewarri,

In this age of great technology, you might find it hard to believe, but once upon a time, recording was new. It was difficult. Maestro Heitor did not change of forget his own piece. It was somehow lost, and please be thankful that it was not ALL lost.

  • Does anyone know if this is really Heitor Villa-Lobos himself?

  • @oscarivera9

Don't know but ,I think that's how he would sound..

He plays steel strings ,taking a lot of liberties , phrases like a cellist ,and actually making it a nicer piece with the guitar tuned flat a semitone.

What is strange with this piece ,I found recently, it's opening melody is actually the some times Bellini attributed famous Italian song " fenesta ca lucive"...which some other times called Neapolitan by anonymous..

    Is there a rabbit ...?

  • I believe this is Heitor Villa-Lobos himself.

  • It's a bit flat, speed it up to concert pitch, plz.

  • I wouldn't have realized that, and I don't know anything about gramophone records.. So please tell me: Do you think the original recording was much faster?

    Thanks!

  • You say it like if you're the one who uploaded this.

  • Umm.. I'm just the one who wants to play this piece at the original speed.

  • Ok sounded like you were challenging me. First off, this video is flat, all the strings on the guitar sound flat. Eflat Aflat Dflat Gflat Bflat Eflat. Now it's not likely that Villa-Lobos did that on purpose, what's more likely is that this person's turntable is not playing it at the right speed.

  • Ok thank you, I didn't mean to challenge you.

  • @warrkrymez Maybe he forgot his Korg tuner that day...

  • @sologuitardeath Nice playing dood!

  • The Maestro here plays steel strings I believe .

And I think if you play his compositions with steel strings and fast.. you looking for big troubles with the fingers.

  • I honestly don't think anyone can tell, since the used "microphone" is anything but neutral.

  • Funny. It is quite different from the published version. Well, if this IS H. V-L himself he can do what he wishes. Maybe he was still working on the composition at the time this was recorded. Would love to know the source of this...

  • Excellent interpretation by Villa-Lobos.

  • Haunting, masterful...he sounds like he's in a different tuning though. (Half step down perhaps?)

  • Sounds like a phantom...

  • i really feel it when he is playing it, just the way he wanted it to sound.

Qual é a procedência?

Caso queira comprar o álbum, basta entrar no website do selo.

  • gracias Villa-Lobos, gracias Brasil!!

  • I have to correct my ealier post;

When I heard Ida Presti doing the Prelude I didn't take into account that the video was badly speeded up. It was a dumb mistake on my part. It's really hard to tell how well she actually plays it from that video but I should have known better. Someone pointed it out to me and sure enough when I checked the intonation they were right.

  • thanks for uploading. this is tramendously wonderful!

  • sorry- ist this HIM (who tourchered mr such a lot)?

  • How doyou know?

It sounds like him in the EARLY STAGES working it out...

It's different than the Score but then the sheet music has many errors in it too.I'd bet it is him because it's played with a lot of soul and someone who could play it this well would certainly have had access to the final version.

No wonder Sherlock Holmes was not a German; you guys are soooo literal you can't pick up the clues here.

  • segovia had modified the preludio, i know this because my father was his assistant

  • tanta belezza faz soffrer!

  • Maestro!!!

  • Nobody as Villalobos to play Villalobos !! .. master !!

  • @OneWorld4us -you completely right,dude!

  • Villa-Lobos is one of my favorite composers. He has such a fascinating life story. I've played his guitar music for decades with great happiness. It is amazing to hear him on guitar!

  • Great post! Thanks so much!

  • i play this prelude since i was 10.. is really really beautifull.

    tks a lot man!

  • YES! Thank you! An other favourite and five stars! It is always very interesting to hear the composer playing his own work!

  • Only Ida Presti played this piece with more strength, expressivity (and technical dexterity) and it is quite gratifying to hear the Master playing the same piece with the same gusto, thus validating Ida Presti's brilliant interpretation.

  • I have to disagree; I just went back and saw her...she ruins it; too much vibrato, too fast, and harsh tone.

Her recordings are excellent...esp. Granados but Villa Lobos; awful.

  • Thank you for sharing here!!!

  • The Prelude No. 1 is one of my favorite pieces. But this is a different version than the one published by Max Eschig. There are more repeats, for example. Does anyone know if this is his original version, or is Villa-Lobos just improvising?

  • You left out other possibilities; he may be making errors; I do it all the time on my own pieces as well as constantly improvise on them. In fact many times I keep the mistakes later as they sometimes work well. Interesting how much rubato he uses here. Shows how useless metronomes are.

I love Parkening and Segovia's versions. Bream and Presti also.

  • western musicology forgot that the human soul ist "counting without knowing that it is counting" "computans nesciens se computare" during playing or listening of music.(Leibniz)

Every rubato is a fraction of some higher prime number.

  • You can't play with the rhythm without knowing first what the rhythm is. Don't throw your metronomes out yet.

  • mUY BUEN MATERIAL . LA GRABACION ES DEL PROPIO VILLALOBOS?

  • Is this the one and only Heitor Villa Lobos playing?

  • Yes.

  • Qual é a fonte? É um vinil de que gravadora? Onde foi obtida a gravação? Qual é a procedência?
