  • One of four great jazz singers. My favorite. Will we ever have another Billie, Ella, sarah or Carmen again?

  • I think she was a Great singer .But I dont like at all the way she treat her musicians so rude an arrogant maner,But who know's what happen's in rehersals.I'm singer and I have been suffering terrible thing's in the hands of evil musicians when I started my carrier .We never know.Anyway Carmen you are so Great.

  • Those are three great players. I have worked with both Eric Gunnison and Scott Colley. They are consummate professionals. Carmen, great as she was, was known as a hardass with musicians and I have personally seen her dress down great musicians on the bandstand. I think that was unprofessional on her part, even though I admired her great talent. No need to be that way on the bandstand. No reason to be rude to her musicians.

  • Carmen McRae and Clifford Jordan - two American masterpieces~

  • she makes a flinch because the piano player did not play the chord perfect like she wanted towards the end of the ''what can i say?'' i love it... ahaha

  • 4099aj devine jazz singer of her time

  • It looks like John Leftswitch on bass.

  • As usual Carmen is consistently excellent with her feeling for each song and her most inventive scatting. The rhythm section is in step with Carmen. Mark is on other performances and lays down a steady pace for Carmen. Thanks for all of your postings. God Bless Carmen. She is missed.

  • mark Pulice on drums is a treasure. His students come out cranking too, I have had the chance to play with three of his students over the years. Brilliant player, and a stand up guy too.

  • Carmen's phrasing is beautiful. Blow Clifford. Thanks for posting this

  • Two jazz greats with a jive ass rhythm section. The piano, bass and drums volume lvel should be at 2 not 9

  • Jive ass??? She hired them. They're pros and Carmen's the boss. They play at whatever volume level she wants, believe me..

Note that they had the gig and you didn't.

    peace

  • That was great how she reacted to the modulation.

  • Clifford Jordan - The Man on Tenor!

  • Thats not Scott Colley on bass

  • @bungalowbeaker yes it is mr know everything

  • Fantastic!

  • what interpretation and style: everyone hangs behind the beat, but who goes bouncing ahead of the beat too other then carmen? great post.

  • when i go to mars, I am taking carmen with me!

  • Honestly, I could listent to this woman

forever. Such intensity, such intimacy in her voice.

I tell you, it was made for a nice, dark, smoke-filled

    jazz club.

  • Fine indeed!

  • Magic! To see and hear Clifford Jordan is too much!

  • She is SO laid back, she makes it sound like the rhythm section is rushing!

  • The drummer is Mark Pulice, from Racine, WI.

  • Great late Carmen (even as early as '80 the emphysema is noticeable but what an interpreter). Inspired stroke to include Clifford Jordan (I have the CD they made released only in Japan). But give credit to the drummer (his dad will be disappoiinted otherwise): Mark Pulice from Racine, WI.

  • hail carmen. love this women and her laidback style of interpretation
