  • "Ever-Holy Lady under your covering (shelter) always, your servants run to and make pleading to you - the undeserving. Struggling redeem all of your servants, in every circumstance, and in sorrows, and from injuries. We saw you to be strong enough for everything and if you wish seal them with your mark. Lady of the world, Queen Lady of all, full of grace listen to the the ones who plead to you. Te ri rem Te ri rem."

  • τi ειναι ρe παιδια το grave tone???

  • @vamoskostakisyo

αδελγέ "το grave tone" είναι ο Βαρύς ό ήχος στα εγγλέζικα.....ό Θεός πάντα μαζι σού.....

  • @vagos2006

    ευχαριστώ...επισης..

  • Terirem is a series of non special meaning words that were added to certain hymns to extend the length of some divine sequences. Over the years they started to be a kind of extraordinary melody coming from the angels as they characterized as the melody of the angels.

  • @Dereniti27 I agree!

  • please youtube the( book of enoch ) our great prophet and learn more about god. thank you and god bless.

  • @freedomfighterforgod

Thank you, I would like to know.

  • this idea of attaching feelings to modes is not traditional. mournful... or relaxing... irrelevant! The modes have evocations only in relationship to other hymnody with the same mode and genre!

Note, this is grave mode, but not enharmonic. It is diatonic based on ZO (listen to the isokratema)-- a relatively little used form of grave mode; usually heard only in the cherubikon. I find the stately beauty of this melodia entirely appropriate to the subject matter: our most Holy Lady, Theotokos.

Very interesting, I would like to know more. I know nothing except the beauty of the music and so am interested in what is said here.

  • Thank you for saying that ratofirniliev!!!!

  • Excellent!

  • @Matzarakis mmmm, yes!

  • Geia sou re Elladistan

  • I love Grave Tone...it puts you in a relaxing Trance..its so heavenly!

  • You must not understand greek then. This is a mourning tone; its very solemn. If you understood Greek, you'd know what you are relaxing to; families weeping over their dead.

  • ratofirniliev: I beg to differ. The tone is called 'grave' in English but in greek it's 'Varys' - "heavy". It is solemn and serious, indeed, but not mourning. After all, its tetrachord is like a major scale. The morose tones in byzantine music are the chromatic ones, 2nd and Plagal 2nd. Furthermore, in orthodoxy a funeral service is primarily contacted in 1st, Plagal 1st and 3rd Tones which is anything they are thriumpant (symbolically so, because of the resurrection).

  • @Callixtinus

Yes, triumphant. And may I say triumphant in my soul, just simply because the beauty is so dazzling. It make me smile hugely just sharing this all with those who know and love the chants. Particularly the "solemn and the heavy"...drenched in God's love. mmmm It is almost delicious. As you can see I live more in my right brain, than the left intellectual half.

  • Varis...Grave is as Callixtinus said solemn and serious tone, but indeed not a mourning tone, far from it. Mourning tones are Plagal of 2nd tone and 2nd tone heirmologically as plagal 2nd tone. Holy Thursday is the most mournful day of the year.....The crucifixion of our Lord on the Cross and yet 90% of the chants on Holy Thurs. are in plagal of 2nd....nothing might I say is chanted in Grave tone that day. Therefore Grave tone is not mournful tone at all.....

  • @vagos2006

Please keep it up...it is enriching and most interesting to know. My soul literally leaps in the beauty of these chants, particularly these particular "grave chants". Something in me yearns for the beauty. I know I am overstating, but it feeds my soul.

  • @prayingmantis2

I, too, am deeply moved by "grave" (heavy solemn) chant.

It stills the roaring fires of my soul and gentles my spirit that I may more fully walk in peace.

As an aside, I work with those in the closing hours of life & families. Beauty is there as the Lord God tips his heart down close to receive the one dying into His Holy sanctuary and infuse those who grieve with the healing balm of grace. It is Heavenly in so many ways. May I be forgiven for not knowing the rich history.
