  • Was Friday's located in the current location of the Subway on Tate St.?

If so it adds significant import to all the times I ate there as an undergrad.

  • @tvpow Yep-Subways and Leons actually! Good memory.

  • @tvpow Yep-Subways and Leons actually!

  • I am pleased to say I saw REM at Fridays

on Tate Street Greensboro several times

There were many great bands there at this time

I considered them the best live act.

  • Yes, I saw them many times at Friday's also. I think as far back as 1980 with Mitch Easter doing the sound. Got to meet them backstage, Pete Buck even let me play his guitar. The owner, who was a nutty New Yorker would keep telling me "These guys are going to be huge, HUGE!" Of course we was right. Saw a lot of great shows at Fridays including an amazing Mission of Burma show.

  • Rem playing "normal rock", I can't control myself is better with The Troggs. Noone does it better than The Troggs.

The Troggs made a record in 1992 together with REM, called Athens Andover.

  • "That Beat" is one of my favorite unreleased songs!

  • check the dates on this because I was there on the 31st of march 81 at Fridays and this sounds like the same show

  • according to rem timeline . com this is the correct date.

  • Mmmm k. Thanks for checking and letting me know, and really appreciate you posting this early material!!!

  • Wow, thanks for uploading this. I've been wanting to hear "Mystery to Me" for ages. I love all this early stuff.
