I worked for the Clash...man it was great times...but you had to appreciate the context..the class divide in the UK was really evident..poverty was increasing...this was 1977...umm or 2011
funny, grew up on the clash, but never saw them live. but I remember very vividly sitting in my friend's basement listening to 'safe' when I was about 15-16 and I was totally blown away. Kind of different from other stuff at that time in North America. I was hooked, and now I play 'rudie can't fail' and 'london's burning' to my 10 year old kids to get them away from Lady Gaga
i saw the clash at a little sweaty club in liverpool called erics. it was early 1979 the last tour they would play small clubs. i was 16. best gig ever. it was like a sauna the amount of people that squeezed in. me and my mates stood on upturned plasic pint glasses so we could see. i was about 10 feet away from them . just superb
in the words of ron burgundy " if you dont think this is the greatest song ever written then i will fight you and that is no lie " (or something like that)
The beginning of the end. From late January 1982. You can see Topper has scored some quality SEA powder and is out of it. His drumming sounds like wet socks hitting cement.
I looked at Your Youtubesite, and it it was kind of great! You really love the same kind of music as I do! How is the musicscene in Canada now? In Sweden it´s so-so, some interesting bands show up, but the main crowd is like dead, nobody is dancing. But, take care anyway, hope You will be good in the future.
Thanks :) Yeah, well I've been at it for a long, long time. From the early Stooges/Ramones period till today. I guess it's just in my blood. Take care!
Hi there! A lot of good bands are coming over to Stockholm, King Creosote is coming in the beginning of March, I´m really looking forward to that. How old are You anyway? I am 45! Old fuckin´fart! But still Bizarre and Rockin`! Take care, Pelle.
@pelle3948 well said man we have a lot in common. though don't forget the new york dolls, without them the NYC punk scene that eventually spread to england never would have happened
Too bad The Clash couldn't keep it together. Should have put Topper in rehab while Joe and Mick cooled their heads. The void left by them allowed U2 to step in. Now we're stuck with Bono.
They did get Topper to rehab in one point, but Topper's bird kept supplying him with junk, so that attempt to save the band went down the drain. Fucking heroin and cocaine... So many great artists and bands have been destroyed by them!
More bands these days should listen to stuff like this. Then mabe some bands would have some ok music and worry about their fans more then their pockets.

'Rope saved my life in 1983 when I first heard it.
How could I be distraught with music like this. The music then was crap and a good friend said "johnny, listen up". 'Julie' rocks.
