So basically what you're trying to say is that a medical career is the only career that can be demanding? You should know that other majors can be just as hard, or even harder sometimes, but it all really matters on the individual. Yes, med school seems like it could be a lot, but still... I'm still in high school and I know that...
It`s not so bad, you know being a med student. It`s actually pretty cool to go out after you finished studying for hours or even days . You laugh like you`re high , pretty much you appreciate life more , and you enjoy every second of your free time xD
Medical school student's life is busy but not to this point...Don't get discouraged by this stupid acting...Nothing is easy in life but trust me, medical school is not that bad, you have to study hard but still you have time to breath and eat.
I hope to be in med school someday, idk about you guys but I kind of like the med students lifestyle xD, I've been told I'm made of lead - do too much work xD.
Real Med Students: Are already in class by 7AM, stay awake during class (without coffee), make time to do fun stuff, don't worry so much about tuition cuz they've got scholarships and... still get good grades ;)
Final Summation: Take a chill pill and DO NOT be a gunner!
This is definitely not a typical day for me as med student, and I can't think of anyone in my year for whom it would be; not even those who are headed for honours/distinctions. Medicine shouldn't be *all* you do each day. Medics do have a tendency to think they work harder than everyone else though, so maybe that's it?
Is this really what it is like being a med student?
And for those saying that he shouldn't be black.. the racism idea was generated by your own minds. Given that there are equal proportions of whites to blacks (which there isn't), but I'll use it as my example anyways, the black person was selected to play the role of the underachiever (a 50% chance in my example). It could've been the white person, but nothing necessitates that. Damn YT won't let me type more...
Because I was stupid to go to a public college of medicine? I mean to wait for a free hand out while I could just apply for a private school and pay with a private loan (of course probably with a higher interest) once I got accepted.
@firenexttime77 There is no racial stereotype. A person is a person, no matter what colour their skin colour is or where they're from. Stop making an issue out of nothing.
You guys are the only ones who see it in that light.Obviously this black guy agreed to be in the video (so i'll assume he didn't think it was racist). People like you just seek out racial bs where it doesn't exist.
true video, not only as medical student but a doctor has to suffer all his life like that...................but u will enjoy it if u r very seriously interested in the proffession. then nothing like that.
I never go to any classes, I go to parties all semester, I see professors for the first time during the oral exam.. and still i pass ;) So don't worry, it's not that bad!
@justcallmegod2 Where do you go to medical school? I need to transfer to your school apparently because my experience is NOTHING like what you just described.
I gave up on the dream of becoming a Radiologist just because I don't hear about too many scholarships/grants for med school. Its already competitive to get in to normal college shit! :(
@zjayzjay Don't give up that easy. Tuition at my med school is 16-17 thousand. 13.5 of that is getting payed by scholarships and public education grants. By the end of med school, my tution and fees and books will be under 15K. Plus, even if you do spend 100-150K in school, you can make that up very quickly as a radiologist.
@gslice923 Where do you go to med school? I go to UMDNJ (state school) and our tuition is like $35k a year. Out of state is about $60k per year. I wish my med school was that cheap
it may be like this but fast forward to 8 years down the road.. after residency and all.. black guy is in a dead end job making a fixed salary .. med student is making 6 figures and then some
@carfan2k2 Or med student could had malpractice and can no longer practice! And he works for the black guy who isn't dead! Seriously, its a skit to poke fun at that. Have heart that your medical friends are doing this.
@zimsen88 yes we all know that its a skit.. no need for clarification .. although its rare that medical people get sued .. unless they are complete and utter morons while practicing lol
@lilperezbro So what? What if the med student was black and the matched peer was white? Would you say anything then? They're just actors in this, it doesn't mean anything. I know a lot of black med students and doctors to not pin point this video on racism. The point of this video is to compare the lives of a med student with a non student, not "the difference of lives between blacks and whites".
@lilperezbro well usually the stereotype is brown or asian for med student and white for the non-med student.. so at least they switched it up in the video :)
Dude... I'm a med student, too... At 7am I'm already up, showered, dressed, tea for breakfast and going out to hospital. xD Sleeping till 7am is a luxury!!!
This video maybe exaggerated but still i cannot deny the reality behind it. I still remember how jealous i am during my med school to those who are not in med school. They have more time to go out having fun while we are having our class from 7 am till 5 pm and sometimes even till night. Then continue study for so many exam. But still, i have fun, not that depressed like in this video.
The worse thing is when i start working as a doctor...seriously no time, no life, always tired, cheap pay
@ascap23 Cheap pay? Doctors make over $100,000 per year. You consider that 'cheap pay'? The average salary in the united states is around $39,000. That's 3 times less than a doctor's salary.
@CambridgeHeights yes that is cheap pay considering the mountain of loans we gotta pay back compared to the "average" american who stops education right after college .. oh and plus also count the overhead of the office and the instruments .. plus the shit amount thats left over because of all the insurance BS and health care plans in effect.. docs usually keep about 40 cents for every buck they make.. so yea it is cheap pay!
@carfan2k2 Sounds like nurse practitioners are making all the money. They also make over 100,000, but they don't have mountains of loans. They also can practice independently in many states and can write prescriptions.
@carfan2k2 That's not true. Nurse practioners have prescriptive powers in 49 states. In some states, they can practice completely independent of a physician, i.e. they do everything a doctor does, they just don't have the title.
@CambridgeHeights well then humor me on this..why be a nurse at all if you cant get the title of a Dr if you end up doing the same shit ? who would opt out for that?
@CambridgeHeights haha sore debater much? .. nurses cant specialize.. that puts a cap on their earnings still .. go find a nurse that can match the salary of say a radiologist or a dermatologist
@CambridgeHeights depends on the field youre in .. if youre doing something general like family practice or psych .. yea its shit pay .. if youre doing internal with one office .. its a bit better but its still shit pay .. multiple offices and youre better off or a large patient pool and youre better off compared to basic IM ... specialists are obviously making more .. usually upwards of 350k
@JonathanMeneguzzi Depends how you look it... im 22 years old... if i started premed right now... say i wanted to be a surgeon.... 8 years of school.... then 6 years of residency.. that 14 years of training before i would even start making good money.. 14 years of no life except school/learning. i would be 36 before i started making 400K+ a year... thats like not starting your life till im 36... even if making 400-1 mil a year, its not worth those 14 years it took. doesnt pay off IMO
@SuperMadklown I can tell from a cursory glance at what you wrote that you have no idea what you are talking about. Where are you pulling these numbers from? What residency program in the country pays 30k a year? Also am not familiar with any Nurses that start at 100k after four years training starting from scratch. On top of that, this video is exaggerated, I have been LIVING every day since I started med school and I enjoy the hell out of my life.
@ChiefExecutiveOwner Look at what I originally wrote. The guy was saying I can in four years starting with no training be making 100k as a nurse, and that is just not going to happen. Then he said a resident physician would make around 30k a year which is equally ridiculous (as evidenced even more by your post)
@SuperMadklown umm...you would make money during residency .. which is 5 years for general surgery not 6 .. and the average salary for a resident is $50K ... so it wouldnt be after 14 years.. it'd be after med school is over
@JonathanMeneguzzi Could be a nurse in 4 years. make 60-100k a year. which is pretty good living, and you can LIVE those extra 10 years it would take to be a doctor... i respect those who become donctors.. but in my opinion its not worth the training. i could understand if it was just 8 years of school.. but then you got residancy which you work 60-80 hours a week only making 30-40k a year. thats like min wage while you BUST your ass and almost never sleep... not worth it IMO..
@SuperMadklown " but in my opinion its not worth the training. " Unless of course, if your motivation isn't solely money, but helping people and making their lives better.
@eonblue46 lol at one point my prof. went up the lecture hall (the light-dimmer down was acting up so he had to use the upper one), he was like: "Oh my! I can see ALL the people who are on facebook from up here!... I can see you minimising it now too!"
I am a nurse student and this video can fit for us too. I relate with the sleep deprivation, with restricting time for family, studying at all hours any place, and no social life. My cat has yet to have gonorrhea though LOL...LOL
true story, but looking back, being a med student is so much better than an intern...enjoy those 4 years as much as possible, you can read every day and have your fun too ;)
As a dental student who knows plenty of med students, this video is a litttttttttle bit more than exaggerated. There are plenty of successful students in either professional program who go out and get hammered-piss-drunk on a more than regular basis, as well as plenty of time to watch Sports Center. Granted we get our fair share of hell thrown our way, you & I both know better than to act like all we do is study!
@Coffeeisnecessary Only when other sources were inadequate or I wanted another view of anatomy. Otherwise, I relied on Netter's anatomy and lab notes.
@Lkenmaner Nope, I just read Gray's anatomy because I was curious! I'm in community college, but one day I'll hopefully be studying cancer and neuroscience. I love the brain! I don't understand why people act the way they do! They follow trends and listen to the same songs yet don't even know the lyrics! XD Oh, the curious mind. <3
@aqualovers99 Also, you might have to choose certain subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12, such as: physics, chemistry, mathermatics studies or advanced, English. Basically all of the sciencetific and mathematical subjects. Your school should have a careers councellor, talk to them for more info. Good luck with your goals, I hope you become a surgeon one day. :)
@aqualovers99 Nevertheless, I believe the ATAR that is required for this course is 90-95% (I'm not 100% sure, you'd have to look up some universities in your state and find the course), but there is an undergraduate test you have to take after you apply, it's called the UMAT Test. It's pretty much an exam based on common sense, slight medical knowledge and general knowledge.
@aqualovers99 I'm not sure what ATAR you need for the HSC because I live in a different state so I use SATAC. But in South Australia, the course that you'd need to study is called the BMBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and I think in NSW and VIC it's called the MBBS.
I am dead set on being a surgeon. I am currently in grade 8 in Australia would you reply if you have any tips on studying or what grades I should be getting also if you are Australian could you tell me what ATAR in the HSC I should get to gain entry to med school? Thank you so much for our help. This means a lot to me!
medical student from around the world, i just wanna say: WE ARE SPARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
hahahaa ....kinda true but this guy only has ONE lecture in the morning and a lot of time to study in the afternoon. Its usually, lecture, lab and same goes in the afternoon. You get off around 5. Short nap, dinner and study until you drop.
I'm only a first year, but it's really not that bad. I'm busy, but not that much busier than I was when I was working full time after undergrad- being a student is just about the best job you can have- if you don't believe me just wait until you get to the real world. You can't just cram for tests like undergrad, (even "cramming" takes a week, and it's bad for your future patients if you don't actually learn it), but as long as you study steadily and are reasonably smart you'll be fine.
It maybe true that Med students are very very busy, but the rewards of improving and extending human life is far more rewarding than anything in any other profession...
and by the way, about 'med student are lonely' .. I disagree... med students have very attractive girlfriends ;))
I just watched that to make a short brake in the preparation for a test at 1a.m. ... And yes, I'm a med student..... ;/////

and as for the residents salary, take a look at what a 5th year resident makes, copied from the page.
What is the resident salary in Manitoba? Current salaries (as of July 1, 2010)

Then he said a resident physician would make around 30k a year which is equally ridiculous (as evidenced even more by your post)
SalAzad 1 month ago
@SuperMadklown umm...you would make money during residency .. which is 5 years for general surgery not 6 .. and the average salary for a resident is $50K ... so it wouldnt be after 14 years.. it'd be after med school is over
carfan2k2 1 month ago
@SuperMadklown oh and you can have a social life during med school too .. ever hear of multi-tasking?
carfan2k2 1 month ago
@JonathanMeneguzzi Could be a nurse in 4 years. make 60-100k a year. which is pretty good living, and you can LIVE those extra 10 years it would take to be a doctor... i respect those who become donctors.. but in my opinion its not worth the training. i could understand if it was just 8 years of school.. but then you got residancy which you work 60-80 hours a week only making 30-40k a year. thats like min wage while you BUST your ass and almost never sleep... not worth it IMO..
SuperMadklown 1 month ago
@SuperMadklown " but in my opinion its not worth the training. " Unless of course, if your motivation isn't solely money, but helping people and making their lives better.

At 1:57 someone is checking facebook in class. If there's time for that I'll be cruising.
eonblue46 2 months ago 21
@eonblue46 lol at one point my prof. went up the lecture hall (the light-dimmer down was acting up so he had to use the upper one), he was like: "Oh my! I can see ALL the people who are on facebook from up here!... I can see you minimising it now too!"
We learned our lesson xD

I am a nurse student and this video can fit for us too. I relate with the sleep deprivation, with restricting time for family, studying at all hours any place, and no social life. My cat has yet to have gonorrhea though LOL...LOL

true story, but looking back, being a med student is so much better than an intern...enjoy those 4 years as much as possible, you can read every day and have your fun too ;)
serofibrinous 2 months ago 2
The only inaccurate part is where the med student doesn't get kicked out of the library for having drinks.
goomba25 2 months ago
As a dental student who knows plenty of med students, this video is a litttttttttle bit more than exaggerated. There are plenty of successful students in either professional program who go out and get hammered-piss-drunk on a more than regular basis, as well as plenty of time to watch Sports Center. Granted we get our fair share of hell thrown our way, you & I both know better than to act like all we do is study!

why complain, this is the life you chose now suk it basterds.

seems legit (at least if some sucker does it)... maybe if they would study a real science they'd understand what studying actually means..

Shuffle3956 2 months ago
@Shuffle3956
you neither need to be a med student nor even be in an anatomy class to know how to use Google.
cbeasley02 2 months ago
@Lkenmaner You read Gray's Anatomy?
Coffeeisnecessary 2 months ago
@Coffeeisnecessary Only when other sources were inadequate or I wanted another view of anatomy. Otherwise, I relied on Netter's anatomy and lab notes.
Lkenmaner 2 months ago
@Coffeeisnecessary you a med student too?
Lkenmaner 2 months ago
@Lkenmaner Nope, I just read Gray's anatomy because I was curious! I'm in community college, but one day I'll hopefully be studying cancer and neuroscience. I love the brain! I don't understand why people act the way they do! They follow trends and listen to the same songs yet don't even know the lyrics! XD Oh, the curious mind. <3

@aqualovers99 And the UMAT Test is worth 10%.
NelleBellee9 2 months ago
@aqualovers99 You might have to take Biology as a subject as well.
NelleBellee9 2 months ago
@aqualovers99 Also, you might have to choose certain subjects in Grade 11 and Grade 12, such as: physics, chemistry, mathermatics studies or advanced, English. Basically all of the sciencetific and mathematical subjects. Your school should have a careers councellor, talk to them for more info. Good luck with your goals, I hope you become a surgeon one day. :)
NelleBellee9 2 months ago
@aqualovers99 Nevertheless, I believe the ATAR that is required for this course is 90-95% (I'm not 100% sure, you'd have to look up some universities in your state and find the course), but there is an undergraduate test you have to take after you apply, it's called the UMAT Test. It's pretty much an exam based on common sense, slight medical knowledge and general knowledge.
NelleBellee9 2 months ago
@aqualovers99 I'm not sure what ATAR you need for the HSC because I live in a different state so I use SATAC. But in South Australia, the course that you'd need to study is called the BMBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) and I think in NSW and VIC it's called the MBBS.
NelleBellee9 2 months ago
I am dead set on being a surgeon. I am currently in grade 8 in Australia would you reply if you have any tips on studying or what grades I should be getting also if you are Australian could you tell me what ATAR in the HSC I should get to gain entry to med school? Thank you so much for our help. This means a lot to me!

hahahaa ....kinda true but this guy only has ONE lecture in the morning and a lot of time to study in the afternoon. Its usually, lecture, lab and same goes in the afternoon. You get off around 5. Short nap, dinner and study until you drop.

I love the leaving home part :))
rainbowheart224 2 months ago
