She wants a relationship and the parents are not stepping up. She's seeking attention in an unacceptable way, but it's because she feels like no one WANTS to be with her. What she's doing is not okay, but she's trying to say something. Just like if someone is suicidal or threatens to kill himself, he may or may not mean it, but even if the person didn't mean it...it's a cry for something.

i think this girl needs to move out right ofter high school on her own. I m not saying her parents are perfect either. when she is much older may be her mohter and her can be friends again. I do wish dr. Phil had more time to talk to the mom & dad about their ownership as well though. indulging her was one thing, but being an absent parent was the real nail in the coffin. Katie was completely honest about her part in this.  I really hope she gets the healing that she deserves.

@LadyoftheLight totally agree. it seems katie is the hurt soul here and everyone is ganging up on her. i think it's a matter of perception. i mean i think her mom does take the passive aggressive route to hurt her daughter. if ally and the mom's relationship make katie jealous, then why does the mom side with ally and neglect katie? i think the mom has to go above the top to make up for lost time.
