Thanks to the magic of video editing, the best of those crashes and bloopers have been saved just for you towards the end of this video. Thanks for watching :)
1. Yes I had to boil the tyres. Its been while but from memory you need to be quick. Boil the tyres for 30 secs or so at a time, then try. If I recall correctly the easiest way was to place the rim the floor and quickly place the hot tyre over it squeezing it on. If it still wont go on you may need to boil some more. It needs to be a very tight fit. Once it cools its almost permanent. :)
2. I really can't comment on that one. Its been so long and besides I didn't have it installed in mine. I would check the manual...you will probably find the answer to that one there. :)
Yeah, the dude i bought the tyres from told me to boil the tyres as well, but i tried and it didnt work cuz i used the hottest water for shower, i guess i REALLY have to boil the water. thanks mate. and the the drive shaft, ill check it out. thanks
you get no performance feel but the chance of having the shaft to be broken is alot less. Because if you change a motor, you need a stronger shaft or else the whole shaft will be in half.
Clean it very well. I used an airbrush. Mask off front of shell. Start with black don't spray to the mask, Its only there to protect from over spray, remove mask then apply red. Use a white background makes it easier to see the paint. Light coats, don't rush. Final coat of white to brighten the colours. Do a google search on airbrush blending. There's plenty of links. Thanks for watching.
great vid blue tac is crapp for locking diffs .you need to use epoxie resin ,to lock the diff or j.b weld. drifting requiers that the diff must be lock.d at all times .
Blue tac seems to work fine for me and many others. As long as you pack it in nice and tight, should be ok. Epoxy Resin or j.b weld will work too, but they are more of a permanent option. I prefer to have the option of removing the blue tac if I need to. Abit more difficult to remove Epoxy Resin ;)
ok no probs its true that j.b weld or epoxy resin is permanent .but why peopel would whant to unlock the diff is a mysterie to me .most of the power from the car is lost through open diff . so i always chose to lock every model permanent .thanks
Great video! Congratulations.. I was just wondering.
I've just bought a tt-01D but it sounds crap in the corners so I decided to buy aluminium driveshafts tomorrow hence the sound will be gone. I do not want to lock the rear diff as it turns and turns and turns how it is actually :)
Do you think I might need to change this "stock tuned" motor or whatever to a better one?
How much grunt you need depends on your driving style, track and car setup. I find the stock motor is fine for me. I recommend you try the locked diffs. It makes drifting easier. If you don't like it you can always remove the blutac.
can u help me to lock the differentials? i have upgraded the center shaft, ABS tires and a tamiya stock TZ motor on my TT01d. it drifts well. but ive been wondering how it would help the drift with locked differentials. do you know any forums?
Hate to use this vid as a blog but I am really interested in drifting. The extra mod is called an HPI D-box. I might be trading my bj4 for a xray 007, then installing a dbox and the hard drift tires. Thnx for the 411 on the one way and yes I know of them I rock the bj4 wich is a 4 wheel and was considering a one way up front. I'm gonna write the rc mags on this.
I luv rc and have two decked out associated's a b4 FT and a BJ4, lipo, brushless, 2.4ghz JR Z-1, etc. I thought they where manipulating gearing 4 this but drifting looks kick ass and that it takes a lot of skill, I love the tricky stuff.
The one thing that does help with drifting also, is a "locked rear diff". This helps a lot (kind of like a limited slip diff in a real car). It's quite tricky, but coming from an off-road background you should catch on quick. The main thing is throttle control.
Thanks hyper, I really want to know though if I can take an xray or winning touring car platform and simply trade tires to turn it to drifting? And these cars have drift assisting electronics on board, right? I would buy a touring car if I can swap back and forth.
Almost any car can be drifted with a few adjustments. Tyres would be the first step, then maybe some suspension adjustment if its not behaving as it should.
I race off road, from what these drift cars look like.... it looks like they are way undergeared to get the tires to spin like that = I haven't seen a fast one on a straight yet.
Gearing is normal. They are quite fast for stock motors when rubber tyres are fitted. However with ABS tyres fitted as in the video, it's like driving on ice, hence the lack of speed, in addition to it being a small track. Breaking traction is easier.
If you want to see fast drifting try nitro 1/10 drifters.
lol. That would be awsome, but he just gets it to us for slightly less then wut hobby stores pay tamiya to get it. Wich is a lot less than wut someone would pay if they bought it from a store. 8D
luckily my dad is friends with the vice president of tamiya canada, so i can get it for $70 CAD. I guess for the price that i can get it for would made it totaly worth it.
hey where did you buy the subaru

've got 2 questions:
1. I bought some drift tyres and it told me to kinda heat it, I did, but then I still can't fit the tyres to the rims. Please Help.
2. Do I have to remove everything again to fit the aluminum drive shaft?

Evopoper95 2 years ago
You do not need to remove everything. Only the front gearbox and the cover for the spur and pinion gears.
jwrx7tt01 2 years ago
yeap =] i did it! it was great to have an aluminum shaft. thanks mate
Evopoper95 2 years ago
What performance gains can you feel from the aluminium shaft?
jwrx7tt01 2 years ago
you get no performance feel but the chance of having the shaft to be broken is alot less. Because if you change a motor, you need a stronger shaft or else the whole shaft will be in half.
Evopoper95 2 years ago
So basically none unless you get a stronger motor?
jwrx7tt01 2 years ago
So none unless you get a stronger motor.
jwrx7tt01 2 years ago
you can say that but i changed the shaft although i didnt change the motor just in case it does break...
Evopoper95 2 years ago
ok. Are you in melbourne? If yes which part? Do you drift?
jwrx7tt01 2 years ago
nahh mate, i live in Hong Kong but soon will be in UK. and i will drift soon when i find good drift tyres.

ok ABS tyres are good.

Hey, what r drift specs? and what do they do
i was planning on buying a tamiya Mazda Rx-7 but then at the end it said drift specs.. and im wondering what they are
VietXVirus 3 years ago
I am assuming "drift specs" indicates the RC has been factory set-up to encourage it to drift easier.
eg:
TT-01 = standard spec
TT-01D = drift spec hence the "D"
hyper7pbs 3 years ago
even tho ur not 100% sure but im guessing its something like that to.. thanks
VietXVirus 3 years ago
Pretty self explanatory :)
If you want the exact specific differences between the two, do a google search on 'tt-01 versions'. Plenty of info there. ;)

faisalthreefive 4 years ago
open the diff and stick some blutac around the gears so they are locked in place. Done.
hyper7pbs 4 years ago
hey whats blutac and why do u do that??? does that change a lot the way my car drives??
PernellDD 4 years ago
Blutac is the stuff you use to stick posters etc to a wall. Not sure what it's called in other countries.
By packing the rear diff with blutac, it locks the diff so both axles are moving together. Makes it easier for the rear to step out and drift.

These pipes are cut into slices to Make a perfect drift tyre. Very common.

Stock TT-01D motors except for the BMW which also has metal shaft, motor mount & carbon top brace.
Minor hop ups would be things like ESC heat sink, wheels etc.
FYI
minor(adj) - of little significance or importance.
