  • Pete loves Keith! What are you guys talking about!

  • I remember when I saw the kids are alright, it was Keith that stole the show with his talent and antics!

  • You guys are idiots. At 0:12, Pete wasn't dissing Keith. He was emphasizing that Keith didn't just follow one certain style or execute one certain filler all the time, like with most other drummers. He was so unique that he didn't even have a specific style. He was just...an animal. Hmm, I wonder if there's a style named after that.

  • Roger is absolutely adorable....

  • Ive never heard pete say a good word about keith, Ive even heard him say ''Hes better off dead'' I think pete was jealous of the credit/praise moon got,

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEITH!

  • Keith will high five you hard if you present your hand in a similar fashion to the tops of his drums.

  • Never be another like Keith

  • Townshend's remark about Moon's drum fills is a stupid joke. I suspect Townshend's sense of humor as being.....lame.

  • @badmuddafadda how was that a joke?

  • 2:05 Roger is just TOO adorable! He's so excited!

  • Haha Rogers so cute.... :)

He's just beaming the entire time :)

  • Absolutely he was the soul of the band. Interesting how Daltrey gives Keith with the vocals. My take has always been that Keith was playing off of Pete. I think it's both.

  • I have to disagree with what Pete says at 0:12, you've got to give Keith more credit.

  • Keith Moon is what brought it all together

  • Such a lovely man. Dirty, funny and strong! I'm sure he's in Rock n' Roll heaven

  • This man is an inspiration, I can somewhat relate to him. I think back then Bi-polar wasn't really known. I hope one day I live his life style. 6th year of drums. All I need now is a good rock n roll band and some fame.

  • @tellurideisawesome How could you if they had never existed? How would you have known about them?

  • Keith was a trully genius.

And genius are strange and hard to live with. They're diferent and "crazy enought to think he can change the world".

  • There are 485 comments so I just can't read them all. Please tell me what this is from, I've got to own that bit where Roger is so excited about sharing what Keith was doing.

  • @kyouell i think its "amazing journey" a documentary film about the who

  • @kyouell

I am thinking it was from the "VH1 Classic" series. "Who's Next." I remember seeing this on TV, but I'm not completely sure if that was it.

  • tell you what , im no who major fan or expert but i love "whos next" that is quality i actully jog for 1/2 an hour everyday and recently i have started to listen to that full album and its about 30 mins in at the end of "getting in tune" that and "the ultimate collection" best of is all i have on cd !!!!!!

  • plus roger used to beat up the others if he didnt get his own way

  • Keith Moon is with John Entwistle right now

  • @resdsox1 Perhaps with Hendrix on guitar and Jim Morrison on vocals...

  • The tracks of Keith and Roger on "Behind Blue Eyes", sounds great even without guitar and bass.

  • Simply The Best!

  • I saw an interview years ago and Daltry said Moon lost the physical ability to play like he did when he was younger near the end of his life.

Booze and drugs did him in I guess.

  • I want an album of just Keith and vocals.

  • Moonie was a genius, period. Roger's excitement is so cute, he couldn't be any more adorable if he tried.

  • this guy was a genius, Moon the Loon best drummer ever, GENIUS.. Pete GENIUS, Roger GENIUS, Jhon GENIUS..the greatest musicians that I've ever seen.... don't ask me what is music because here you are the answer..!

  • I would have loved to have watched this whole thing.

  • Replay 1:25 and 2:09 Continuously

  • KEITH MOON - never mind Clapton, Hendrix, Joplin, Townshend, Lennon, McCartney, Ringo, Jagger, Richards, whatever.... you name it....the 60s and the 70s was KEITH MOON! Nobody better including Bonzo, Kenney, oh WTF make it up yourself - Moon was the BEST! If you wanna be a rock'n'roll legend - DIE FUCKING YOUNG!

  • Greatest Drummer of all Time!! End of !!

    no one compares with him!

  • @GrungeRocker1000 Baker and Moon

  • @ECHOES2131

yea wel... those are the best drummers! along with mitchell,

    and peart ! :)

  • ITS VERY STRANGE THAT WHEN SOMEONE DIES EVERYONE LOVES THEM BUT IN THE LATER YEARS OF HIS LIFE WITH ' THE WHO' THEY WANTED RID OF HIM , PETE DESCRIBED HIM AS "THE TIC ON THE WHOS BACK" YES WE ALL HAVE SAID THINGS THAT WE DIDNT MEAN BUT ??????? I THOUGHT HE WAS BRILL !!!!! I SPOKE TO HIS MOTHER AND SHE WAS ADVISED FROM HER DAUGHTER NOT TO READ THE BOOK - DEAR BOY

  • john is the man

  • even daltrey is still fucking amazed by moon. Truely one of a kind. There will never ever be another human being like that ever again.

  • i love the knitting metaphor!! So cute!

  • In 2:15 Roger has this face (for me) that he misses him a lot & they'll never have a great drummer like that besides Zak Starkey which he's almost like Keith.

  • @beatlegirl456 and its really cool that he is so impressed by keith for a couple reasons. 1. because there are some stories of them not getting along and its good to know that deep down they were great friends. and also as a drummer its always a compliment when someone gets excited about your drumming. im sure its the same for all instruments though that good feeling when someone compliments you. rogers a great guy. the who were an awesome band

  • @beatlegirl456 ehh...not quite..

  • @jaqua524 Then what.

  • 2:09 holy shit

  • he was a true badass and one hell of a drummer.. to bad he died so young.. rip moon the loon

  • Humanity will never, produce another Keith Moon. Ever. Only if he's reincarnated or something haha

  • "Then he went 'Dump dump dalalala dump dump' and he fell on the floor"

  • Man Keith was just amazing ands it's a shame that one of the most talented men to walk this earth died so young. RIP Keith Moon

  • The best part was the guy trying to figure out which button to press lol.

  • @theyhavepeabrains ''the guy'' being Roger Daltrey, lead singer of The Who, who only happen top be one of the most famous bands of all time!!!! Your name says it all.

  • @bigderekkeene Really you comment on what obviously was a joke. I wasn't making fun of him. I work along side sound guys and its commical when there are so many buttons on the board that its hard to know what to do. So save your breathe for Justin Beiber haters.

  • that makes so much sense. roger pointed out a major thing. he followed the vocals and the unstrumental was just rhythm, damn drunk n crazy but great genius

  • You can tell Robert misses Keith:(

  • "Plays the break pretty straight " To a non drummer what does this mean ???

    Big fan of Keith BTW.

  • @petgall2 As a drummer, I'm honestly not sure. Usually when people say something like that, they mean straightforward, simple, etc., but Keith was still doing a lot of fills at that part too haha.

  • @petgall2 ok as a drummer, guitarist, bassist, and singer i can, without a doubt, tell you what this means. it mean that what you hear keith play when roger is singing, keith plays the same thing in the break.

  • @petgall2 It means Keith didn't add a lot of flair or variety in that part. When you hear Roger singing, you can hear various fills and changes in Keith's drumming, but during the break, it's rather straight and normal.

  • that was pretty intense-Ive always been a big fan of Roger Daltrey's-a true alpha male-you didnt have to worry about being embarrassed in front of your Dad when watching Roger Daltrey perform, not like when I saw Houses of the Holy and Robert Plant looked pretty flamboyant

  • Ever since I read his biography, I carry about two dozen or so M-80s with me whenever I stay in a hotel. I'm no longer allowed in the Holiday Inn in Columbus, OH or the Courtyard Marriot in Cocoa Beach, FL.

  • Comparing Keith to Bonham is like comparing The Who to Led Zeppelin. Two different animals here. They are both so utterly brilliant that they have reached a level to where it is pointless trying to compare anyone to them.

  • I never even knew Keith but I miss him so much

  • at the 2:20 area he looked exactly like my uncle

  • LOLOL at the end.

    Ey!

    -SMACK-

    OW!!

  • The sheer love, admiration, and delight on Daltry's face as he demonstrates Moon"s drumming at the 3:12 mark made me cry with delight.

  • @asvmulch there is no 3:12

  • @Lobbinit lol

  • This is a great video, really great. It is cool to see Roger getting all excited when he is sitting at the board, over the creativity and crazyness of Keith's drumming. I only wish I could have seen the Who when Keith was alive, but at least I got to see John when he was still alive. If you don't LOVE the Who, I can't be around you.

  • Townshend totally misrepresents Moon trying to be funny.

  • @billheartyface The drum fill comment? You know Keith would have just laughed at Townshend making fun of him. I doubt Pete means any harm since he and Moon were good friends.

  • best drummer ever

  • @chidocq Damn right he was

  • @chidocq

    Second best, after John Bonham.

  • Roger picked an excelent track. And how he explains Moon's style is exactly why I prefer Moon to Bonzo, with his creativity and his fills, he never did the same thing again on each song. He was like a painter. When most of the drummers are like TUN TAH TUN TAH! Moon was like TUN TAH DUTUTUN TAH-TAH-TAH TSS TAH-TAH TUNTUN TSS-TSS. LOL Bonzo was great but I prefer Moon's style.

  • well said buddy, moon was the cream of the crop

  • superb description. i love moonie too. i think he was the best.

  • ok did you know that when his wife kim kerrigan i think ? lived with him he abused her threw her around the house and pointed a shotgun at her he also made her give up her modeling career just goes to show how bad he needed to get his life straight....he also was banned from the hilton hotel and the holiday inn for making noise ... destroying property and blowing up toilets moon the loon lol

  • She has legs ,,get up and leave ,,but no the money and the life style were to good ,like a moth to a flame ...

  • @higgmjbh

yea she did eventually leave with his daughter

he looked for them for weeks around the worlds capitals where they might be staying , after theyre divorce he found another young hot 19 year old model , made her give up her career was with her up intell he died her names Annette something .

  • It's terrible that he died TRYING to get his life back to normal. It's so sad.

  • @TheDirectorofFoo At least he was trying. Treatments for substance abuse then are not like they are now.

  • @TheDirectorofFoo Yeah..... D;

  • @TheDirectorofFoo Define "Normal" ...

  • @TheDirectorofFoo

sort of... he overdosed on the stuff that was supposed to help him... like, 32x what he should have taken, so it really wasn't an accident.

  • In reply to hdc9468 the real tragedy of Keith's death was that it was caused by an accidental overdose of drugs prescribed to wean him off of alcohol. He was turning his life around at the time trying to stay sober and in a good relationship with his new-ish girlfriend. He had everything to live for.

  • 1973? SPAC? Broke crowd record.DID songs from the Whos next album.Towhshend fell off the stage. They had not yet released the album.GOD what a concert!

  • The song is "Behind Blue Eyes"

  • lol Roger thinks Keith is a geneous! :) And he was!Keith Moon forever!

  • @RogerDaltryRocks

He undoubtfully was a genius, but he also suffered from bipolar disorder.

Despite how great he was, there's still something obscure and pretty allarming about his personality, and you can tell by his facial expressions that he isn't always in control of himself.

  • HE WAS A PISS HEAD THATS ALL

  • @higgmjbh No sucka he was a legend and a legendary drinker (I won't say piss head cause that too Limey) Love the Moon Man

  • @higgmjbh-why keith moon and not YOU?

  • @thegunclub123 why not you

  • My favorite Led Zeppelin song was when Pagey, Jonesy, Bonzo and Donovan did "Hurdy Gurdy Man"

  • Does anybody know the song Roger is referring to at 1:43? I dont recognise the track hes playing there...

  • "Behind Blue Eyes" from Who's Next

  • Behind blue eyes :-)

  • no one like keith.

  • Ya it's to bad that Keith had to die so young, maybe if he had thought more about his wife an child then he did the drugs he would still be alive??

  • Keith Moon was the guy who thought up the name for Led Zeppelin. He said that the band would go up "like a lead zeppelin".

  • keith moon said "like a lead balloon" it was john entwistle who said "or like a lead zeppelin"

  • Well said. Page when he Moon and Enwistle were going to form what later was Led Zepplin said it best . Moon created a unique drumming style of total sonic assault with the best showmanship in rock. Bonham and Moonie were friends. A 1979 Who 3 hour set Kampuchea. Bonham left with his manager and said 'We just the greatest band on the planet.' (PT played with Bonham earlier that month - said Bonham is 'fucking incredible.') They all loved Moonie.

  • a lot of bands have two drummers...any of those bands can downsize by adding one keith

  • Roger is soo cute in this how he totally amazed about Keith.... <3

And Keith is a genius, nothing to say!

  • i think he said it best, roger that is, that they would be nothing without him. looking past their personal lives and into what was "The Who", I agree that Roger looked smitten over Keith. That's respect... it is just too bad Keith isn't around to see it, I suppose.

  • Keith Moon was a fantastic character, king of drummers and the sort of person who actually did qualify as a 'celebrity'........

  • What most people dont realize is that most of the time he was quite drunk when he played and hopped up on pills. Its like being drunk while driving and being a better driver. The man was truly brillant.

  • I love watching rogers face at the mixing desk on the "and if i swallow anything evil" part.

That is exactly what Keith Moon's drumming is about.. you just have to smile ,giggle and laugh at loud at keiths genius.

Not a lot of music makes you LOL.

  • you couldnt have said it any better..........i myself have tried to somewhat imitate keith's style but yet its to say the least very very very complicated.

the thing is though all i can do is just laugh when i mees up cause i realize this drumming just cant be done again

  • one thing's for sure. doesn't seem to be near enough footage of him playing out there.

  • Keith Moon was a drumming genius - and the real reason was the way he blended drum corp drumming with Hal Blaine/Sandy Nelson surf style. 30 years later no one's figured it out, but that's really what it was - the development of the Krupa side of the Krupa/Buddy Rich divide.

  • That guy had it right. In the end....I don't really care about his "loony" whatever. (Although I can hear it in his playing.) But I just fucking love his drumming. Period.

  • exactly right.....his drumming alone made him a legend anyway, the "moon the loon" persona just put the icing on the cake

  • indeed. I'm not fond of Keith Moon outside a drumset. But when the man was behind the set - the whole thing - image, planning, whatever - freaking great.

  • He reinvent the way to play drum which in that years was a jazzy way ... he was the best drummer of that time bonan mitchell and the others have a good tecnique and control expecially bonan but I think (but i'm not god) that Keith had something more than the others .... he was also a great live performer and also a funny drummerclown, just to see the performance that he do at the rolling stone circus "A quick one" it was 1968 and i think no one play drum in that way in 1968... KEITH RULES

  • i agree with roger

  • Keith's style reminds me a bit of Mitch Mitchell, more frenetic but similar. Both great. I think Ringo is underrated, he did exactly what a drummer should do, I especially like his drumming on "Oh Darling".

  • Listen to Ringo's astounding Fill-Sculpture on the song

"She Said - She Said" - many drummers have said "I defy you to play those parts and retain that feel." - That generation of drummers had a core of solid time and feel under their 60s wildness. Moon, Mitch, Bonham, and Ringo... forever

  • couldnt have said it any better

  • Love this...I've always maintained that the Who were a drum solo with colorations in trebel (Pete) and bass (John). See Young Man's Blues for a full lesson...

  • I used to be a Moon fan for his flamboyance and flair, then I read his autobiography and listened more and I began to realize how creative and talented he really was. He really was the Hendrix of the drum set and his personality and wild antics only overshadowed what a great drummer and unique performer he was. Miss him.

  • @pilesovinyl WHAT DO U MEAN "USED TO BE A FAN " ?? HES STILL ALIVE JUST TURN UP THE VOLUME ............!

  • @nittenboys he means he used to be a fan of Moon the loon but now hes a fan of keith moon(musician)

  • brilliant!

  • Daltrey: A Keith Moon fan speaks....

  • RIP Keith.

  • Carl Palmer and Moonie and Peart are the top 3

  • john bonham and ringo starr. thats your top 5

  • nope

  • lol i love the part when roger daltrey show us moon's drumms in behind blue eyes at 1:41 !!!!

  • god bless keith moon !!! he's the best !!!!!

  • when i die...

  • keith moon is the best

  • i wonder why we dont get any proper characters in rock music anymore? proper nutters with that wild look in their eyes ?

  • I was fortunate to have seen The Who performing in 76 with Keith Moon!! He had a spectaclar style of playing, a totally unique drummer in every respect! Add the other members, and what you had was a truelly explosive mix!! When Keith sadly died, so to did The Who! It could never be the same...As was the passing of another rock Genius John Entwistle..R.I.P..Keith & John..Long live The Who..

  • I love how Daltrey was obviously a fan.

  • Like a kid watching a magician.

  • best drummer PERIOD>

  • There are 5 drummers of which I hold to the highest of regards... John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ian Paice, Bill Ward, and Neil Peart. They all had their own incredible styles and playing abilities, but sadly... Bonham and Moon are not with us anymore and consequently can not share with us their life, vibrance, and abilities. They are and always will be legends.

  • what about mitchell, baker and portnoy? i agree though, moonie and bonzo died to young, incredible muscians

  • Take a look at Stephen Jo Bladd.

    J. Geils

  • Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Dave Abbruzzese

  • Keith Moon was one of the first rockstars as an individual... smashing hotel rooms driving cars in the swimming pools and smashing his drum kits at gigs....

  • Comment removed

  • Near the end, at Behind Blue Eyes, l get a feeling that it would be better with only drumms and vocals, its just so powerful, really.

  • Of course Keith entered Who after Roger and the others. It was Rogers band in the beginning. Togethér with Entwistle, Moon formed the largest rhytm section ever. No one can explain how great Keith and John was together. Along with Roger they became the spokesmen for Petes genius. Like all other great bands it's the magic of them together that makes it. When Keith died it as all over, just a´it would have been without one of the other. Keith is the biggest drummer ever, no doubt.

  • i making drumming cool and acceptable under young teenagers also keiths dear freind ringo was important, remember the ed sullivan show.

  • How lucky I feel to have seen The Who with Keith Moon! Unforgettable!

  • I really love that bit with Daltrey, looking like a Grandfather... with this expression on his face like a kid in a candy store.

  • With Keith gone, The Who was a shadow of its former self.

  • nope nope, a true drummer follows the vocalist and goes with the bassist. the asshole guitarist give the thoughts of what would sound better as a fill on the drums. drumming is like dancing, but with the arms and hands. you listen to the beat and then take the beat and make it AMAZING!

  • lol when roger first joined the who he described moons drumming as a jet engine starting up!!!!

  • Keith joined after Roger.

  • i think its amazing that, even though he was crazy and probably a hassle in the band, roger and pete show so much respect for how good he was and how important he was to modern drumming and rock music in general

  • wat documentry is this from???

  • the who- whos next making documentary

  • thanks!! no really thanks i remeber seeing it at the store 2 weeks ago, i'm gonna get it now XD

  • My bucket T.

  • Like Robert Plant said during an encore of a Led Zeppelin concert in June 1977, when Moon took the stage, grabbed the microphone, and began yelling barely-intelligible gibberish and profanities. Plant taking the microphone back from him and yelled.......... "Keith Moon!"

  • That's not what happened at all. If you know how both bands were live, Moonie was used to taking center stage and making fun of Townshed and being a comedic showman. Robert didn't want Moonie to disrupt the flow with his Who schtick. There was great love and respect among Bonham, Page and Plant with Moon. Page said Moon was the only drummer Bonham would allow play on stage ('73 and '77). There's a picture of Moonie on stage and Page riffing and have such a wonderful smile watching him.

  • Pete Townshend is such a baby face! haha he looked like he was 13 when they came out with "my generation"

  • Man.....Keith IS THE BEST DRUMMER EVER!!!!!

  • Keith was THE BEST DRUMMER EVER!!!!!

  • really funny, roger daltrey looking like old man and small child simultaneously, blinking behind his specs 1.50 onwards.

and so true, keith moon was a genuis

  • And like all geniuses (or most of them) aren't properly recognized 'till after they've passed away.

  • Keith John Moon was fool, I wonna be like him, he is my idol

  • roger got so exited lol

  • i love how he's all shaky and can't find the right button. and it's pretty funny how he gets excited more and more and more till finally he just cracks up like "he plays the break perfect...BAHAHAHH"

  • I know, he's all old manish while pushing the button, peering over his glasses.

Reminds me of my dad. lolz
