Old school still best school. The E55 Kompressor has always been a dream car and engine for me. It looks and sounds much more menacing and masculine than the new 63 AMG's do. Their power comes in towards 7,000rpm but the 55K has massive torque from nearly idle. I'll trade in my '02 C32 for an E55 in a year all things going well. :)

Forced induction cars often has an advantage when accelerating at higher speed, because their low-end torque characteristics does a good job overcoming the wind resistance, and it takes less time to get to the rev range where the engine performs best!
When comparing normally aspirated cars vs. forces induction always check out the 80-120, 100-160, 100-200 figures, and you will se that tendency!
I would want the E55 supercharged engine in E63 chassis with the 7-speed gear!
for everyone who's wondering why they didn't aspirate the E63 is because the 7-speed tranny would just tear itself apart. 1st gear would be ashes every time you're at a light. the E55 has the original 5-speed (which IMO is better) and that can handle the 500+ torque.
@armiansky, the E63 is a much better performing car if you put it on a track much like the M5. and the new AMGs are going to have a twin turbo 5.0 V8. so we can finally have a more even battle between the E-Class AMG and the M5.

actually the E55's HP numbers are underated. The E55's HP is around 500 and 550 torque, not 469. Stock E55's have dynoed stock with 400-440 rwhp. Motor Trend gives the E55 4.2 0-60 and the E63 4.5. Some have seen 4.0 seconds. Most E55's with slicks have had some low 12 sec high 11 second quarter mile times STOCK. With just a tune and a pulley your running 0-60 around 3.8 and in the high 10's low 11's 1/4 mile.The E55 station wagon pulls 4.0 0-60. 2010 M5 does 4.6 0-60, The Beast is still king!

The power between the 2010 E63 and the E55 are very similar, within a couple of hp. But the power difference between the 2007-2009 E63 is at least 10-15hp different and obviously the humongous torque difference is the reason why the E55 will win everytime.

good race. the 55 is a beast. with the supercharger. without it that engine puts out at most about... i think its somewhere in the 400's. without the supercharger. the 63 engine can be powered up to well over 600. so the 63 engine is better but the 55 it better in this case with its supercharger. but still AMAZING cars.
You got that backwards The E63 engine can not be made to go past about 590 hp while the E55 can go over 675 hp.... Check the Kleemann or Renntech websites on the modds for these two cars...... I'll take the E55 any day over the 63.....
thats if its modded. if you just took the 6.2 l and the 5.4 l without any supercharger and then just maxed out the power. the 6.2 has more power in the end. and i need to correct myself. the 5.4 v8 at full power does in the high 500's. the 6.2 v8 does in the high 600's. and the 65 engine (just for fun) can put out well over 700. but they cant do that to any of the engines since they dont have any way of cooling them down
also. it cant reach over that power because its limited. if you order a special chip from AMG you can get that power back. the chip alone will give you at least an extra 100hp.
i too was puzzled to see the e55 pull away absolutely. i thought it would pull maybe a car at most from the get go but then i thought that the 63 would ever so slowly walk away.
I prefer 55 models than 63,they had supercharger so it means much more torque , and because of that supercharger you can easily raise the power with some new stages.

why will the E55 always win? the 0-60 times are slower than the E63, and most actual races end with the E63 out front. the 50 or so less torque is made up by the 50 or so more horsepower, and the seven speed tranny
I have a E55 and most people don't understand that the E55 is under rated. Mercedes claims the E55 has 469hp at 516tq and I got my car dynoed BONE STOCK at 500hp and 550tq. If you compare that to the E63 you should understand why the E55 wins.

We have a 03 E55 as our tow car for our race car. Is awesome for that purpose. The E63 is a much smoother car around town though. E55's supercharger makes it very touchy. Not that I mind touchy. Haha. Nice comparison.

I just bought a E63 and love it. I have a jeep srt8 and a C6 vette. The E63 will beat both of those cars and I always thought they were super fast. The E63 is an incredible piece of machinery. I don't mind that I don't have to listen to supercharger whine even if it is a little slower. Granted, maybe it isn't. I would have to line up with a 55 to find out.

Wrong, actually. Neither the C63 nor the E63 are faster than the M5. The E63 has a 0-60 of 4.2s compared the M5's 4.1s. And the M5 is significantly faster around the track...
i might film on friday. i have friends with a c63 and an m6 and ill see hoe that goes.. ill post videos later. we recently raced m6 vs E63 and beat it by a few cars. not too much though
E63 is faster in aspects. Off the line the M5 will take the E63 by just a tad. The E63 will catch up right around the quarter mile and start to edge out. I don't need to watch the Top Gear episode when I can go drive them both.

actually the E55's HP numbers are underated. The E55's HP is around 500 and 550 torque, not 469. Stock E55's have dynoed stock with 400-440 rwhp. Motor Trend gives the E55 4.2 0-60 and the E63 4.5. Some have seen 4.0 seconds. Most E55's with slicks have had some low 12 sec high 11 second quarter mile times STOCK. With just a tune and a pulley your running 0-60 around 3.8 and in the high 10's low 11's 1/4 mile.The E55 station wagon pulls 4.0 0-60. 2010 M5 does 4.6 0-60, The Beast is still king!

wow people really need to read into the difference between the two engines.....yes the e63 has more horsepower but it is not all about peak horsepower number....the e55 has more "power under the curve" and is able to produce torque at a lower spot in the rpm's....all in all the e63 has a more lively engine but the e55 is capable of putting out more horsepower( when modded) your idea that just because an engine is larger it is faster is ignorant.

I thought the 6.2 liters was aspirated...not kompressed...infact it has only 630Nm of torque...
the 5,4 liter kompressor on the contrary has more yhan 700Nm of torque...it is a big difference don't you think....the horsepower are nearly the same...everybody say the 55 AMG was better than the 63AMG and these videos show it...that's why I don't understand why it was replaced...

The power between the 2010 E63 and the E55 are very similar, within a couple of hp. But the power difference between the 2007-2009 E63 is at least 10-15hp different and obviously the humongous torque difference is the reason why the E55 will win everytime.

good race. the 55 is a beast. with the supercharger. without it that engine puts out at most about... i think its somewhere in the 400's. without the supercharger. the 63 engine can be powered up to well over 600. so the 63 engine is better but the 55 it better in this case with its supercharger. but still AMAZING cars.

You got that backwards The E63 engine can not be made to go past about 590 hp while the E55 can go over 675 hp.... Check the Kleemann or Renntech websites on the modds for these two cars...... I'll take the E55 any day over the 63.....

thats if its modded. if you just took the 6.2 l and the 5.4 l without any supercharger and then just maxed out the power. the 6.2 has more power in the end. and i need to correct myself. the 5.4 v8 at full power does in the high 500's. the 6.2 v8 does in the high 600's. and the 65 engine (just for fun) can put out well over 700. but they cant do that to any of the engines since they dont have any way of cooling them down

I prefer 55 models than 63,they had supercharger so it means much more torque , and because of that supercharger you can easily raise the power with some new stages.

why will the E55 always win? the 0-60 times are slower than the E63, and most actual races end with the E63 out front. the 50 or so less torque is made up by the 50 or so more horsepower, and the seven speed tranny

e63 would win 0-60 but because of the torque the e55 has after that initial 0-60 it will pass it. They were going over 120 mph at the end.
But the e63 has a higher top end and will eventually pass the e55.

I have a E55 and most people don't understand that the E55 is under rated. Mercedes claims the E55 has 469hp at 516tq and I got my car dynoed BONE STOCK at 500hp and 550tq. If you compare that to the E63 you should understand why the E55 wins.

We have a 03 E55 as our tow car for our race car. Is awesome for that purpose. The E63 is a much smoother car around town though. E55's supercharger makes it very touchy. Not that I mind touchy. Haha. Nice comparison.

Forgive me, but it takes someone from the US to make a comment like that. I don't have a problem with the video. Why are they going to kill someone? An american with a US driving licence (obtaining it is a 5 minute special) would indeed kill someone. I had to watch GIs driving around all the time in Germany, it was a damn nightmare. Here was just a simple little test to see how a successor fares against its predessor. Drag strips are for mental yanks with home made ultra dangerous contraptions.

Uh right, if you consider 14hp more and 51lb/ft of torque less being "way more powerful" than by all means yeah it is.
The E63 is only 52lbs less in weight so obviously the E55 will have the lower-end easily and pull ahead of the E63 like it does in every video.

I just bought a E63 and love it. I have a jeep srt8 and a C6 vette. The E63 will beat both of those cars and I always thought they were super fast. The E63 is an incredible piece of machinery. I don't mind that I don't have to listen to supercharger whine even if it is a little slower. Granted, maybe it isn't. I would have to line up with a 55 to find out.

E63 is faster in aspects. Off the line the M5 will take the E63 by just a tad. The E63 will catch up right around the quarter mile and start to edge out. I don't need to watch the Top Gear episode when I can go drive them both.
