No big deal, but the caltrain actually doesn't run through those stations. It goes from San Francisco to San Jose. The route you're thinking of is the Amtrak Capitol corridor
Oh we are fully aware of that, our trainclub is located right infront of mainline tracks so we know exactly what goes through there and Caltrain isnt one of them haha. But yet this is a trainclub where members can bring what thier old equipment to run, it isnt usual to see cp rail, Chicago north western and other eastcoast railroads running on the layout!
The engine is an Atheran F59PH Ready to Run like the passenger cars its pulling. I bought mine at my local hobby shop. You can also try your local hobby shop as well and see if they can order one for you. Try ebay as well as they are known to pop up on there from time to time.
Prototypically this is no what Caltrain runs. The correct engine is a MP40-C. Although no one has made this engine in HO True Line Trains is working on it.
how do you make the platform

Oh okay. No offense by that. Sometimes people make layouts of railroads they have never even seen before.

@PinoleValleyNate I do remember Amtrak one year employing the CalTrain Baby Bullets to run between Sacramento and San Jose.

MP36PH-3C, I believe. I'll have to check with a friend, he'd know...
