@ExtremeToothDecay I hear stories about how "Mr Mantis" breaks aquarium glass with a single punch, do you think maybe it wasn't hitting you with full force? Maybe it's smart enough not to "bite the hand that feeds it?"

Those stories are greatly exaggerated. I have seen a monster chiragra (hardest hitting mantis there is) his extremely thin (2.5G aquarium glass) hundreds of times. He can't break it.

I am also aware of a bounty for any video showing a mantis shrimp breaking the glass of the aquarium it is in. I have tried many times under very silly circumstances (a mantis that barely fits in the aquarium, with super, super thin glass).

@Paucharka That's interesting, thanks for the info. In that case, I guess the hardest thing he can break is clam shell (which is relatively hard)

He is fine in there. Mantis shrimps spend 99% of thier time in their holes. I might move it up to a 5G or 10G one of these days, but it isn't necessary.

I got this one at a local fish store, but you can get them online.

i read about em earlier in a newspaper at work about their eyes being researched for scientific purposes, read up on wiki an watched a few vids, those things are awesome, way more mobile than i thought they would be, your one seems very intelligent

I've watched him hit it dozens of times. He can't break it, despite it being incredibly thin. It is a myth they can break aquarium glass (except maybe the more brittle bottom panes which are tempered sometimes)
