If I only saw one of his descents I would say “he’s a lucky idiot” but after 9 of them, I say “That idiot knows how to read a line, and run the $&* out of it”.
I playboat and only go down rivers to get to where I want to be, but I would say 70% of this isn’t kayaking, it’s something else, possibly riding a crazy carpet version of a kayaking down a rock slide. But a creaker might have a different opinion... I like waves, water, holes, and giant watery walls that say “I’m gonna $%^& you up”.
*gag*-Tao is the personification of ego... He has these people talking about him like he is some sort of hero for crying out loud. From a technical standpoint he is an excellent paddler but he is so damn arrogant and self promoting, who puts out a movie about himself titled "fearless"... I couldnt even finish this video, guess Im just not "extreme" enough
@GBRmedic thanks for your comments. I can appreciate your insights and what you are getting at. I actually created the film, not Tao. It was a painstaking process traveling to Oregon and Washington to make this film, let alone getting to know Tao. It's my belief that if you watch the rest of the film you'll find something more under the surface. And I would pose the argument as not if you like Tao or not but if you believe he is fearless in his pursuit of boating.
I have seen this film so many times, does anyone know where i could see the
PULSE movies? i love this film its keeps me fueled for kayaking. And to famousPhotog's brilliant response evolution is not true and God has given different people different gifts how can you think something like this happened on accident. if its as simple as an atomic explosion then explain how the eye works in depth, the top scientists can't figure it out, and the DNa testing is only for 2% of our and the monkeys DNA
Why not call it for what is............mental illness? Fear is what keeps people alive and safe; fear is a normal evolutionary response to that which can readily cause death. [Why not just go over the American Niagara Falls with no protection and be done with it?] Its not about having "guts" or "balls"; its about lacking that which is a normal part of evolutionary brain function. Why should one be jealous that they are not mentally ill, as well?
Tao's my inspiration. I started Creeking this year, and bought a Dagger Mamba kayak cause it seemed like all the pro's were using them (including Tao). Two youtube video's down, many many more to go! Thanks Tao, I dedicate my 'extreme fearless' video's to you. And what's with the hater's in youtube world and their comments (the one's like 'tradernorton' just below my comment). Youtube is all about whatever rocks your boat (or Kayak lol), if you dont like something, dont watch it.
I've heard one comment on another paddlers comment that Tao is the most technically proficient paddler they have ever paddled with. And I've heard a tail or two of incidents Tao has had in rapids that are outer worldly (In the skill it took to achieve the resulting outcome). But ultimately if one tries at this long enough I suspect an inevitable outcome. I'll be very surprised if Tao is paddling at this level this frequently in ten years time (statistically speaking it seams unlikely).
You are right on all accounts. Tao is incredibly good and has had a handful of "close-calls" although he may not call them that. I don't think he will be doing this in 10 years and neither does he, at least not at this level.
"If I make one mistake..."- Tao. Yes that one mistake can often carry serious consequence. But I would contend that when one is descending drops of this nature all the human skill in existence may not be enough. Tao has an exceptional ability to move with whatever situation develops.
to much money in kayaking

It's not that Tao's not a good paddler but dam does he dramatize the piss out of it when he's interviewed.

@gdk229 I think it's just his sense of humor... i want to find him arrogant but i think he's just mocking the danger in what he's doing

i would have bought a dagger nomad, not a mamba.
me and my crew were in norway this year, first time real creeking too. (the video is on my account, check it if u want to).
and one of my mates had a mamba, and he had some trouble with that boat, because it has to less volume, especially in the back.
he sold it yesterday and he's gonna buy a dagger nomad.
think about it ;)
