This guy's father was trying 2 play his sax but a part of his instrument was missing and he asked Jerry reed? You see his dad wasnt very good at English.
I know this. The Sheriff in Smokey and the Bandit was trying to get Jerry Reed's character (as well as Burt Reynold's ofcourse) and the sheriff in the song was trying to get Amos Moses... so my little joke is still relevant.
R.I.P. Jerry. You did it all. . . sang, wrote, produced, engineered, acted. . . and talented people like you are too seldom seen in the entertainment business today.
@Psfreakman300 You like hip hop and rap, lotsa law breaking in that. This song is about illegal alligator poaching and killing a Sheriff. Not much different then gangster rap just more classier.
@DougPatton1 I'd like to thank you! I've heard that song all these years (I also live in a snake and alligator-infested swamp in Louisiana) and never could make out what that man's name was. I thought Jerry was saying "Duckbill South" or some such nonsense.
@misharyutubbee Mah pleazure dude. Though Brit Yorkshire born ,big smoke/London bred ah kinda bin blessed wit an ear for dialect and speech, and wildman Reed's fast rap can sure rattle the brain - but no doubtin where the Loosiana sheriff went to. Also check out good ole Polk Salad swamp-rock boy Tony Joe White "chomp chomp" - take care now in them grinnin gator glades.
@DougPatton1 Tony Joe White is from a neighboring parish, and I have cooked and eaten Poke Salot. It's kind of tricky; you have to boil it three times, discarding the water and squeezing it dry, then stir-fry it with bacon and scramble an egg in it. It still doesn't taste so good, but it's free food from the side of the road. Some of my ancestors were English. We left 400 years ago, so I probably wouldn't recognize anything!
@misharyutubbee: Say a big "HELLO Tony Jo" if you see that good ole swamp boy. Ye Olde England may have changed some in 4 centuries - we got automobiles now - but just 40 years back we saw T.J. White on UK then new colour TV tawkin real slow n deep south 'bout his days as a dazed young dude in 1950s Rock n Roll U.S. heaven Cruisin-The-Block, juss like in "American GRAFF-itti as he pro-nounced it. Can't Stop, Keep On Rockin good buddy.
I couldn't believe when I heard this song in GTA:SA, been a fan for a long time. But it's pretty awesome cruising in the mountains in that game and this song pops on :)
The first time I heard this was in the game GTA San Andreas..had to stop the mission just to listen to it.Fell in love with it instantly and I don't like country music but this song ...
@MrBostonmisfit For me this is a awesome songs...it is one of the few songs that says Thibodaux, Louisiana in it...its my home town and not well known so its pretty cool
He was a shy guy. I think I remember him stuttering some?
Stuttering can happen for several reasons. I stuttered for 6 months after bashing my skull onto a lamp post when I was 6. It was because I would here myself think what I was going to say as if I already said it, and that would make me say it twice twice.
Yup. I remember decades ago when I was a serviceman, Waylon had an outdoor jam called Waylon''s jamboree. It was a sweltering, baking summer day, and the bands were HOT! I mean, they were SMOKIN!!!
Rest in Peace Jerry Reed! You will always be one of my favorite artists, and always the big ol' Snowman that I always wanted to be when I was a little kid!
I had lunch with Jerry Reed once. Totally accidental. He was a totally cool man. Just like you would expect.
