I liked the portrayal of man meeting fire for the first time, and Maria Pages is absolutely incredible, but I really really dislike Michael Flatley's Riverdance. It's a shame they didn't keep that bit second time round, it would have been amazing between Maria and Colin
best firedance (or even the best spanish and celtic dances) out of all the riverdance shows. maria has so much passion and strength here, as dus michael. They work so well together.
Maria Pages is the most beautiful dancer, she really is amazing and she brings such a lot of soul and emotion into this dance... unfortunately, she's also one of the ugliest women i've ever seen...
I would love to find the other spanish flamenco dance in riverdance the original show - Andalucia. Looking for it for such a long time as its the most beautiful music ever.
I do, too. I wonder why those who plan the shots think viewers want to stare at torsos, while the feet are dancing out of sight below. At least it's not as jerky as the other video of the firedance, where the camera is jumping here, there & everywhere, & one can't get a real sense of the dance.
OMG,This is th most beautifull piece of Firedance ever!!! This pair is fantastic,They are so passionate like 2 lovers dancing!!! Thanks for sharing!!! :DDD
Her expression though this whole piece is capitaving. She really shows what she feels in this dance. And then the Chemistry between her and Michael is even better!
This was the best version of Firedance. There was real chemistry between Pages and Flatley. She was a bit like the bullfighter and he the bull....magnificent piece of music, lovely guitar. They complemented each other perfectly....two huge egos! No other version comes near. And yes, Michael does wink at her....he was always a bit of a winker! Bravo!!!!
This is my all time favorite piece from Riverdance. Never have I been more proud to be both of Irish and Spanish ancestry! The beautiful mixing of these two cultures in dance and music was brilliant. Irish and Spanish peoples are passionate and having hot Michael Flatley and beautiful Maria demonstrate this in the Firedance was the best thing about a show that was already outstanding.
They both dance this like all the moments of their lives up till this dance were not even really lived - like the moment that they are truly alive for the first time is when they are dancing this, and so they throw their whole souls into the dance, every scrap of life they possess going into this five minutes. Like they expect to die when the dance is over and they're putting their last breath of life into it.
God! She is as beutifull in her great offering of this dance of fire as the guitarist is with his fingers on the strings of his 6 string classical Spanish guitar. I thought.
For my part, this version of Riverdance - the ORIGINAL - will always be the one I hold nearest and dearest. Michael Flatley had the passion and drive, and such marvelous chemistry with Maria and the rest of the cast. There is just no comparison for me.
I love this song. So much so as I bought the Riverdance book just so I could have the guitar tabs. In fact, I bought a classical guitar just to practice this song. Definitely the song I play the most.
And I like this version better than the later version b/c in revisions they don't even really interact.
i love maria she is ace i used to watch this on video wen i was about 5 and she used scare me cos she has tht really serious frown but i still loved her dance and still do
I found out htat Michael also took up flamenco dancing while Irish dancing. And notice that (as usual) michael has to flirt w/ every girl he dances with. Man I wish he would have cut his hair b4 Riverdance, b/c then he would have looked MUCH younger. He did eventually though.
oh maria!! seriously, that woman gives me a gender identity crisis. i want a big andalusian horse to carry her on the back of, and possible to be the saucy young man to collect her at the end of the dance! :D
My neighbour loved it, so once we borrowed her video. I think I was 4, but I loooooved it! This was my favourite dance, cause the combination of music, atmosphere and just everything makes it great! This was one of the reasons why I wanted to play the guitare (sound of music is the 2nd reason;-) )
I love this performance. I have it but hadn't watched it in a while. I love how it's just her shiluette at the begining; simply beautiful. Awesome dress too.
I used to dance to this as a liitle kid. It was really embarrasing. I just jumped around on my couch. My parents still tease me about it. But I love it still.
Fantastic Composition. This shows the influence that the Spanish had on Ireland, and also its dancing. Ireland was discovered by an Iberian person who came from Galicia which is the Celtic Region of Spain.
Maria does not look mannish, nor does she have a unibrow. Her hair is pulled back tight and she has her eyebrows pulled together because a severe look and expression is the norm for flamenco. She looks much different with her hair loose. Search her name and watch the Ergo uma rosa video.
LOVE the tune, but also adore Maria Pages. What an awesome dancer she is. A as far as Michael F goes? Nah, I prefer the shorter, darkhaired, and MUCH cuter guy that became the second lead, lol. He's go more "spice" to him. wink* Anyone know his name???
I saw Rocio Montoya do the Firedance, two days ago. Astonishing! Graceful, fluid, electric; stole the show. Her beauty doesn't hurt, but her talent was the spectacular component. WOW!!!
No me gusto.
Michael Flatley looks scared shitless dancing with her it's hilarious! Despite how manish she looks, she has a very lovely profile. Plus she's a wonderful dancer.
He's supposed to have the serious machismo expression of a male flamenco dancer. I don't think he's reserved enough to one of those though! He's just got the showman smiling stepdancer expression. I think your right though, he just winds up looking mad that he can't pass as a flamenco dancer next to her.
She actually doesn't start early. I went to an event once where the dancers explained a bit about flamenco. Sometimes the musicians cue the tempo changes to the dancers, and sometimes the dancers cue the changes to the musicians. That's why flamenco artists ask the audience to not clap along; it makes it hard to hear the cues back and forth. Maria starts dancing first as a cue for the Riverdance musicians to start the next section of the song.
Ok, so I'm confused here. Cause there is obviously already a steady tempo there, the clattering. And the rhythm pattern of the main "riff" is the same during the entire song. Time is |7/8| 7/8| 6/8| 7/8|. I can't see why she would try to change that by cutting off like half a beat. And the band isn't really changing anything, it just sounds like she's really off to me. Then again, I'm no dancer :)
Brilliant composition though, Bill Whalen is amazing.
i almost faint when i saw how sexy this dance was passion with spice
