Because GM made terrible decisions like investing in the Hummer helping bankrupt the company. Hummer division never tuned a profit for GM. In the 90's they could have played hardball with the unions risked more strikes and forced the unions to give up some things like job banks. They could have done what Toyota did and diversify their products, all GM made in the 90's and 2000's was S.U.V's and Trucks Toyota build truck and small hybrids. Poor leadership=the old GM, I hope they turn it around.
Hummer is a failure wrong product at the wrong time. Hummer helped bankrupt GM and force Americans out of work. GM could have placed its money and efforts on products people wanted and made a profit. Instead they put this on the road a gas guzzler that helped drive up oil prices. Great leadership making a product no one wanted to buy. Hummer suffered sales losses form 2008 and on but they still pushed the product. The govt helped to with big tax deductions on Hummers. Great Leadership!
