brings back memories! Atlantic 252 was the best and i remember at the time Atlantic was the only ones that played that dance mix on michael jacksons - history :)
I found this station by mistake also. I live in Poland. When I found them they started to play "Macarena - Los Del Rio" and "Wanna Be - Spice Girls". In the beginning I thought it's american radiostation. I was 15 years old. The last song I remember was Outta Love from Anastacia. Than I lost Atlantic 252 and never was able to find it. I loved to listen this radio in the nigt, was the best music at night. This radio has had a soul. The sound was magical, warm and depth. I miss it!
I still have a tape recorded boxing day 1991, - put it on every now and then and brings back lots of happy memerories. in an odd way i liked it on LW, - would never have sounded right on FM,
12 yrs of great radio. back then in 1989 when it started it cost 6 million pounds to set it up- shame RTE sold it but as the station was in Ireland and problems with uk broadcasting licencing plus new fierce competion from lots of new FM stations once UK broadcasting restrictions were lifted atalantics audience fell to less than a million listeners hence the sale.Big shame...
i found this station by mistake when i was about 9yrs old (late 80's) and never listened to anything else...until my very old stereo broke and the new one did not have long wave...when i eventually got it repaired (just to listen to Atlantic!) it had vanished and all i got was test transmissions for a sport radio channel. booooooooooooooo hisssssssssssss
that Longwave gives music a depth and warmth that enhances music, I was really MIFFED when I tuned in to find it had been changed to a talksport type thing. Can anyone help identify the song? Is it MJackson? I lived in a mountainous area of the scottish highlands so it was the only station we could get! Musta been the most dependable music station EVER for driving reception too, and such a good selection of music. PLEASE someone: RESURRECT ATLANTIC 252!! If I win the lottery...
It is Michael Jackson, and the remix of History. This was one of a number of tracks which I bought where Atlantic was the only station I ever heard them played on. I even bought an old pocket radio with Long Wave on so I could listen to it on my way to school in the mid-90s.
These days with internet radio it may be more cost-effective for the station to be resurrected, rather than fighting for a declining number of listeners due to the limitations of the LW frequency.
yo robbo, thanks for identifying the tune, youve got me thinking now, sureley we could resurrect it on the net for a fraction of 6 mil it took to set it up!
yeah i ttally agree, good, good point. AM and LW does something to the sound and does seem to bring out a different tone to the music which is a refreshing difference to crystal clear FM listening and sadly much overuse of compression/limiting these days

This was a great channel. I used to be able to hear it in Iceland at night.
