  • Such an amazing young lady she was :] Always makes me happy to hear her voice. So extrordinary :] Definately one of my favorite artists of all time. She is so beautiful :]

  • Monkey ears, crossed with a deer in the head lights look. Anyways, she was pretty good for her age. High notes a little shaky

  • Not the best version I've heard of that song, but fair play that was amazing. I mean she's what 13-14 there and she sent goosebumps all down my spine! Way to go!!

  • I think she was actually 11 O:

Not bad for her age AT ALL right (:

  • Wow 11! It's a pity she stoped singing like this:) I'm not the biggest classic music fan, I do listen to some of the more dramatic stuff quite often, but I'd never listen to any of her recent releases.

    Peace

  • Awesome

  • crikey those high notes are amazing!!! go charlotte!

  • i love this song :D

  • Charlotte Church must not sing Phantom

  • omg goosebumbs when she did the high notes!!

  • That guys creepy.

  • ya i mean the phantoms supposed to be creepy, but that had to be uncomfortable for her.

  • Does nobody else seem to have the impression that this is so, irreparably CREEPASS?

  • great job by charlotte. but i always have mixed emotions when watching kids perform these kind of things. one side is really impressed. the other is freaked out ... it's just not natural.

  • Even though Charlotte Church is 12 years old, she has an amazing voice. She sang it so well and Peter Karrie is good as well.

  • that is amazing at that age she was,i like her voice.

Btw, this is acting, doesn't matter that is old man or young girl

  • DUDE. LITTLE LOTTLE, SHE'S 12!!! DO YOU EXPECT HER TO BE PERFECT?!?! AND she doesn't suck. She just doesn't have very good control over her voice yet. LET'S HEAR YOU!

  • yeah i was watching it. it gives me the creeps i was watching it and at the same time i was why a little girl with an old man ooooh i know he wasnt but i imagine him kissing her its horrible

  • it is a little bit strange that she is singing with an old man...

  • Yeah, somehow a 50ish age difference doesn't fit the song right ;p

  • Ahhh! Whose idea WAS this???

  • I think she's like, 12 or something.

  • Wow for however young this girl is she's pretty amazing. she sounds better than many adults I've heard sing this. I like the guy too, he's a different flavor.

  • Agreed. Normally like Charlotte Church but she wasn't ready to do this song voice wise at that time and Peter Karrie either cut his words off here or yelled to much. Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman still have to remain two best on my list(only my opinion) followed by Michael/Barbara Bonney. If you haven't heard that version yet it's wonderful and is on MCs ALW CD and also on YouTube. I wanted to listen to this version because I believe in giving everyone a chance before deciding.

  • How old is Charlotte Church there?

  • *swoon*

    Peter Karrie!!!!

Charlotte sucks. Never liked her. She isn't strong enough even now to handle operatic roles.

  • oh she actually sings too good fir her age here...karrie probably had to spend a lot of years to get there

  • For some reason, every time I watch this, I can't help thinking about the creepy Erik in Leroux's novel. Ya, get the connection, an old guy hitting on a young girl?

Anyway, I think she should have waited a little longer before tackling this piece. I mean, she's good for being so young, but she sounds like she's trying to make herself sound older than she really was then.

    It's still pretty good though.

  • I can't imagine how straining this must be on a young singer the shrieking at the last part must really hurt a person's voice

  • I agree...very creepy. Peter Karrie should have toned it down a little, she's a child for christ sake lol

  • I hate to say this, but I can't watch it. I'll listen, but it's horrifying to watch the man acting like he's in love with the little girl.

  • omg she is amazing! but wat a weird looking kid lol

  • paedophile!

  • I'm disappointed she didn't do this when she got older; because she could have really grown into it and done it spectacularly. I just think this was a little too early for her to take on something like that. By the time she did her Enchantment album, with those 2 duets with Josh Groban at the concert for Enchantment, the two of them could have really pulled it off. A shame. :/

  • it's funny- that guy who is the phantom is old and scary!! well done charlotte for not getting put off!

  • I don't know, she did look a little put off at the "it's me they hear" part.

But then again, like he said at the beginning, Charlotte suggested on doing it.

  • her voice was a little weak at the end, if it was stronger it would have been AMAZING. its kinda creeepy that the phantom was sooooo old.

  • She is good 4 an 11/12 year old, But she cat beat Sarah Brightman no way!

And the music sounds werid in this version

  • Actually, She was 11. And i dont think age should matter, her voice is amazing enough to be able to have this chance to sing this amazing song with someone else who has an equally amazing voice. And Christine was never said to be a waif. And charlotte was only a little big for awhile and she just lost alot of weight

  • yeah i agree

  • WHO IN HELL SANG AS THE PHANTOM?!

HE SOUNDS LIKE A BAD MIX OF MICHAEL BALL AND COLM WILKINSON!!

I don't mean to yell but I had never seen someone sing soo bad!

It's soo bad that it makes David Hasselhoff sound like Hugh Panro!

  • Actually for a 12 year old. Not bad......otherwise you can't exactly blame her performance....ewww Peter Karrie. Also in no way was ever "Christine considered a waif" WTF?!?!?! Where the heck do people come up with this crazy stuff?

  • later on in her career, she sang all i ask of you and kicked serious ass...she really should have been chosen for the film, however, joel schumacher told her she was too fat...which i think is bull ****

  • You have to realise that Christine's character is a "waif" ... a very tiny, fragile character. I'm not saying that Charlotte is fat by any means. God knows I have no right to judge that, being a big girl myself. I'm just saying. Waif is waif. That's her character, just as Erik is disfigured. Can't have an undisfigured Erik.

    ,,,=^,,^=,,,~~~~

  • Mwahahaha...no wonder Charlotte Church looks petrified...ol geezer pedophile sounds like he belongs in Las Vegas.

  • I am laughing. I actually have tears coming down my face. I never liked Charlotte's voice, even now. But can I say... Peter Karrie sounds somewhat like Colm Wilkinson? Yeah. Anyway, ... this is pretty damn scary.

  • Pter Karrie, he sound's great, wish i'd seen him in the role. Charlotte was singing out of her range and sorry but it sounded terrible

  • So what, she's 12! A little girl singing like an adult. I'm still impressed.

  • beats crazy chick.

  • Wow that girl is only twelve! O_o They're pretty good!

  • Yeah... everytime I watch this the guy creeps me out.

  • The guy's too old...O__o But that girl... Only TWELVE???!!!

  • wow that was really good for a 12 year old..but that guy...wow.. im thinking "PEDIPHILE!!! CALL SVU!!" lol dont get me wrong, he was good, but he over did some of the notes, but in all, i give it a b+. good job!!

  • lol yeah i frelt like calling ice T to whip his ass

  • I had the same reaction. Having a fifty-something-year-old man seducing a twelve-year-old girl and bringing her to a metaphoric orgasm is just wrong on more levels than I want to think about.

I feel dirty after watching this.

  • I love Charlotte but it sucks she didn't go for the high E at the end :(

Guess that's why they went to Emmy Russom instead for the movie.

  • that's probably not why they picked emmy instead of charlotte. charlotte actually has better range than emmy, they just didn't pick her for the movie because she didn't want to lose weight for the role. they are the same age, so at the time they filmed the movie, charlotte would have been just as good a choice as emmy, if not better. by then charlotte was much more capable of hitting the high notes than she was in this video.

  • Interestingly, it was only Charlotte's PR that came out with the "weight" excuse--after it was well-known that she had been rejected for the role.

I hated Emmy Rossum's slack-jawed, dead-eyed performance as Christine, but compared to Church's horrible technique (at any age), I thank the movie and music gods that they went with Rossum.

  • begging your pardon but i do think her singing improved with age... discounting the current incarnation... her breathing was horrible in this clip but i've heard her done better in later songs. Also she could actually go much higher and sound smoother too... please do consider your points carefully before jumping the gun. comparing this performances with the later ones, there's simply no denying that she improved.

  • I'm sorry but Emmy Rossum has an amazin voice in the movie! I think that she was perfect for the part, n don't 4 get Charl was only 12 here! No hard feelins tho xxxx

  • um.. who sings this..?? They aren't too good. The girl if SO off. She constantly changes octives! It's horrible. In addition, she sounds like she is screaming not singing in the end.

  • She's Charlotte Church and the guy is Peter Karrie, i think. The guy does it great, and Charlotte was 12 years old here, so for the domain you have of ur voice at 12, she does it pretty good. I definitely like this version more than Nightwish's version, but the best 1 is of course, Sarah Brightman's. I've uploaded some other 1s of her, so take a look n u might like somes. She sings pretty good.
