I've seen countless contemporary versions of this choreography and NONE can replicate Bennet's original execution skill and speed! I wish I can find just ONE dancer that can do this as exact!
Don't worry about it mark. I am friendly with Donna and she is really wonderful. All I can say right now is that the people who ran the show back then were power mad and very evil. Great success made them worse than any of the stories you hear. I don't mean the cast either.
@BalletBabyBoy, I'm in awe that you knew my idols, utterly fab. Donna is so far beyond a goddess to me it's nuts. I lived and breathed ACL like a religion at 16. Please tell us more about your experience. Sorry, the sound works on my 'puter, maybe there's an Internet bug at work ;-(
@Jamesscalise, lol, maybe that's it ;-) It could well be that the pitch is off, BUT you have to take the good with the bad, footage of the original cast is so rare, you take what you can get.
I had waited years to see the live production of "A Chorus Line". It recently came to the Morris Theater in South Bend, IN, and I finally got to see it. Unfortunately, though I had really high expectations, and that production didn't quite meet them. It was good, just not excellent.
this is just a scheme to control the dancing god Shiva ......you do realize they made this movie because of me right? and DAN----cing was chosen because of Dan's name, they seek to redistribute a manipulative state over the astral plan using the jewish tribe of Dan, it isn't even really called DANCING, only after their pollution of such
that's impossible my # is private, and you don't know who has called me because I built up steel walls around myself to keep moles like you from venturing too far, also i saw one of your buddies dead on the sidewalk last time I took a walk
@rrrrrrrrreee you do know that this song is about them learning the dance for the first time right? Hence the actors are making mistakes on purpose - they're not supposed to be perfect. Maybe you shouldn't pass judgment on the talented original cast of a Broadway show. Could you dance any better?
@rrrrrrrrreee Oh really? They suck? Well, I'd like to see YOU pull off all of that choreography. Once you do it better than them, I'll listen to your opinion.
We learnt this routine at my drama school. It is a KILLER! I had never danced before I went to the school last September and now I can proudly say I did this. I certainly wouldn't have made the cut, but I am so much closer to A Chorus Line than I was a year ago. It must be so brilliant to be an amazing dancer.
Ugh. The Tony Awards have gone so downhill since these days. We need to start having some performances from the classics and get away from these awful new productions.
That's pretty gay. Youre right it is great. After 7 burritos in I found myself at subway wolfing down a 12" veggie and blabbering to a cutout of Jared.
my mom went and saw this when it was in it's glory on her senior trip to New York back in the 70's and I grew up watching the movie and listening to the original broadway soundtrack. I will forever love this show!!!!
i love this song so much the first time i found this musical was wen i was auddtioning for GUYS AND DOLLS in my high scool and i love musicals so i went to the libary looking for musical soundtracks and i found this one and this first song i was like OMG THIS IS LIKE HOW I ALWAYS FEEL AND I BET EVERYONE ELSE DOES TO IN THE AUDDTION PROCESS WAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO PUT IT MUSIC lol im always like in 2:46 thinking im horriable lol (ps i did get sarah brown in G.A.D it was a great experince
AH, Kelly Bishop you are amazing. Sheila is the best character. "Sheila, do you know the combination?" "I knew it when I was in the front." LOVE HER. I also love "Headband, head up!"
I was lucky enough to see it with the original cast not once but TWICE! The second time was the last night they performed on Broadway before taking it on the road. What a memorable evening!
Amazing clip, thanks so much for posting it. You can feel the thrill when Zach first yells the "Ah-5-6-7-8!" and the audience starts clapping. This show must have must have been such a favorite that year because not only is it so good, but it's about Broadway--it's a show about that community.
omg! i dont wanna sound corny because i honestly do respect and admire this play, but i get that same thrill and its my favorite moment of this clip. I just really wish i could see it again live.=), still cant help getting goosebumps from that moment
Yeah I said "I Hope I Get This Job" when I auditioned for Texas Musical Drama this past summer...then I realized...the show lasts only 3 months..."what in the flip do I do when I have to book it back home with no job...well I hope I get the next job with longevity!
I know! My sons are ages 5 and 7 and their absolute favorite moment in the entire movie was when Cha-Ka belted out "I've got to get this job" and then immediately started to speak monkey language again. I told them I'd show them A Chorus Line on YouTube as soon as we got home. That entire movie was pretty entertaining. Very silly and very funny.
You can feel the tension and desperation in this piece. I think a lot of us Americans feel the exact same way right now. Unemployment is creeping slowly up to ten percent. I can truly relate to this, and have said it myself "please, God, I need this job." Thank you so much for putting this up, it really was one of the greatest Broadway shows of all time.
