Whether the riff sounds like something else doesn't matter.The bottom line is, the song is excellently composed, excellently played and has got an eerie quality of its own.Everything is bound to sound like anything else; the point is that "Snakes of..." is done with such supremacy of melody that few will take note of the riff; Danzig is all about vocal tunes.Anyhow, it's admittedly a rework of "Twist of Cain",and any band able to get two so great songs out of one riff, is worthy of admiration.

I grew up on this album...remember saving my lawnmowing money to buy it before it came out. It may sound similar to a lot of other songs, but it is the exact riff and tone of 'Minnesota Strip' by The Dictators.

To all: I can understand about how it might sound like Metallica or STP, but one, this is a BLUES/metal riff that has a simple but catchy structure, and is probably in a lot of blues standards...

As for Thorn Load / Re-Load as well as the Blk albm were made after Het was there while they made Danzig...not a coincidence I think

Now, that does not mean he ripped Glenn off as Sabbath has the same kind of riffing style at times, and they influenced both Glenn and Metallica. It's how music works...

Personally, I loved how Danzig evolved over the decades, so was not a huge fan of their Deth Red Sabaoth album, having been looking forward to the next evolution rather than a degenration.  Still, Lucifuge as a whole is certainly among their best albums.

This song is a direct rip off of the Dictators. I guess you can't post links? Look up Dictators Minnesota Strip. Exact same riff, done a decade earlier.

The KISS riff is not the same, but it's not too far off. KISS actually had the Dictators on tour with them. Then kicked them off, because Handsome Dick (singer) came on stage on night repeated Paul Stanley's banter word for word. Hahahaha. I love KISS, but Paul Stanley is such a puts. I was just reading a Danzig interview where he was saying how STP ripped off this riff, and that he hates them for it. Now this song rules and STP's song sucks, but I thought it was funny b/c the riff is actually the same as "Minasota Strip" by the Dictators, which is a song Glenn woulda knows b/c Jersey's Misfits came of age in the NYC punk scene that the Dictators were already established in. Maybe it was a subconcious influence. Find a YouTube clip of the Dictators song to hear what I mean.
