TO ALL THE FOLKS SAYIN' THAT THE MAIN RIFF IS FROM ANOTHER SONG----JUST REMEMBER, "ALL SONGS HAVE ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN--THE MUSIC, & IN A LOT OF CASES THE LYRICS!!!!!!!" IT'S ALL BEEN DONE BEFORE, & THERE'S NO GETTING AWAY FROM IT. WHEN ANYONE WRITES A SONG/MUSIC--THEY'RE MORE THAN LIKELY WRITING SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN---NOT ON PURPOSE, IT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS.
I wish I could thumb up your video description. I am listening to "Five to one" by The Doors and went "This sounds like Snakes of Christ". Now I am going to shut up and listen to the song.
Even as a long-time fan, I agree about the cover art. Luckily, I got the alternate one when I bought the album. Shitty thing though, the alternate cover art insert doesn't unfold into an inverted cross like the one shown does. =/
@usernameshortage A man's barechest is not gay as much as a lady's bust is not lesbian. I for one don't feel any sexual inclination to glenn's glorious pectorals.
Whether the riff sounds like something else doesn't matter. The bottom line is, the song is excellently composed, excellently played and has got an eerie quality of its own.Everything is bound to sound like anything else; the point is that "Snakes of..." is done with such supremacy of melody that few will take note of the riff; Danzig is all about vocal tunes.Anyhow, it's admittedly a rework of "Twist of Cain",and any band able to get two so great songs out of one riff, is worthy of admiration.
This might sound really weird but for 3 months i thought that the album cover was a picture of a cane field. Turns out it was danzig's chest hair! \m/
I grew up on this album...remember saving my lawnmowing money to buy it before it came out. It may sound similar to a lot of other songs, but it is the exact riff and tone of 'Minnesota Strip' by The Dictators.
This is a pretty basic blues riff. If it came from anyone, it's probably some black dude in Mississippi in 1935. Nobody did any ripping off, the songs that have riffs that sounds like this are all so different.
To all: I can understand about how it might sound like Metallica or STP, but one, this is a BLUES/metal riff that has a simple but catchy structure, and is probably in a lot of blues standards...
As for Thorn Load / Re-Load as well as the Blk albm were made after Het was there while they made Danzig...not a coincidence I think
Now, that does not mean he ripped Glenn off as Sabbath has the same kind of riffing style at times, and they influenced both Glenn and Metallica. It's how music works...
@ClayDanzig138 From beginning riff to the very end!!! I think their peak was danzig through danzig blackacid devil, although I havent heard many of the newer songs last album i listened to was i lucifer(i thin was the name of thealbum)
@ClayDanzig138 Deth Red Sabaoth is a flashback to their older music, definitely. Personally, I loved how Danzig evolved over the decades, so was not a huge fan of their Deth Red Sabaoth album, having been looking forward to the next evolution rather than a degenration. Still, Lucifuge as a whole is certainly among their best albums.
For all of you idiots who think STP ripped off Danzig with Sex Type Thing, try again. If you really want to compare who ripped off who then listen to "Everybody's Working For The Weekend" by Loverboy. Sounds like this riff, only faster.
Oh yeah, Danzig is SO much better...NOT -- Danzig had one song, mother - badass song but they never really had any decent record sales. STP have probably sold and made 1000x what danzig has.
Fucking Ignorant pricks like you shouldent be able to even speak about great things you have no idea about. If Danzigs voice was a gun, you'd be shot.@surgeyX
The riff is not the same as Kiss' War Machine or the Thorn Within. This song is certainly not a COPY of Kiss' War Machine. If you think it is, you have no ear for music.
@IaIaCthulhuFthagn I think it's because in the first place it's a really simple riff, it could easily be the same as in another song, with the band never knowing, like how there are bands out there with the same name, the riff is easy and souds good, so multiple people may have stumbled upon and liked it, that doesn't make it copying, people are so close minded these days.
@IaIaCthulhuFthagn The only song I hear any direct comparison to is "Sex Type Thing" by S.T.P., and with that it's Weiland and Co. doing the ripping off, not Danzig.
This song is a direct rip off of the Dictators. I guess you can't post links? Look up Dictators Minnesota Strip. Exact same riff, done a decade earlier.
The KISS riff is not the same, but it's not too far off. KISS actually had the Dictators on tour with them. Then kicked them off, because Handsome Dick (singer) came on stage on night repeated Paul Stanley's banter word for word. Hahahaha. I love KISS, but Paul Stanley is such a puts. Dictators Forever Forever Dictators.
It's no use dude. People have no ear for good music. they can't write their own shit, so they like to sit around and pick apart other songs from other bands that they wish they could be in. Danzig Rules.
This rip is apparently ripoff central.. heh. First Lucifer's Sam - Pink Floyd, then The Minnesota Strip - The Dictators, then this song, then Sexy Type Thing - STP.
Ofc maybe none of it's a rip off, and they all thought of a really similar riff, lol.
