Nice, but get the tune names right. :) they are written on the soundtrack. (minds eye, digital terror, constructive demolition, ultra yak, glide control, and 2000 dub)
this takes me back. great work on this video. Its been so long since I played my old jag (no loner have it) but I just knew something was missing all the YouTube soundtracks I was listening to. they all seemed so hollow. this explains it. I'd love to get a copy of this.
your quite correct, the cd versions are utter shite! jag version all the way. did have a mod of them that i got from the old modarchive site but lost it someware and i cant find it on the new site.
@Alm1ghtyAv3ng3r I'm afraid that Tempest 2k was exclusively for the Jaguar. Yes, there are other versions for the saturn, playstat, PC.. But they have a different engine & a different soundtrack. I Believe the ST uses Floppy Discs? An Amazing Console. So Versatile. I have in fact played on one! Golden Axe was amazing!
What you suggested would be an interesting way of controlling sound thats for sure! Really though you need a M-Audo or Novation controller. Cheap but effective m8.
@therealKINDLE Ah well, might get hold of the PC version then :D
ST indeed uses floppys (PC size)
Yh mate I'v got a Novation controller - the 61SL MKII
I'd just use that as the master Controller, and have the Atari send the separate MIDI tracks on the right channels to my Hardware rack units, or Keyboards through it. People still use the Atari ST Range for music production, because its solid, stable and still has the best MIDI timing around, because the ports are synced to the CPU directly!
Part of the problem was, the Jag's sound output was so wonky, have the time I got a Hiss out of the system. I had one Jaguar where the sound stopped working all together! Bought another one, then that one stopped working.
I had such a terrible time getting a good CLEAN sound out of the Jags hardware.
@Nettikturbo Oh yes. It was terrible design. My cousin actually built a connector from scratch that wud clip to the back! He's an electrician.
But the only way u can edit these tracks is by using the MOD Files themselves, & using a piece of software called 'OPEN MPT' . Then you use a waveform editor to re-master.
@therealKINDLE Can you help me modify my jag so I can get decent sound output? It's so quiet and fuzzy, I have to crank up the volume but I get distortion and still low sound outlet.
@Nettikturbo If you are still using an RF Ariel Cable (Coaxial) then I would look on Ebay for the official Jag-Scart that fits on the back, & goes to your TV in HQ. But something I've found is that some games ARE just real quiet. Flashback is AWFUL quality even with the scart! But if you are playing Tempest 2000, Pause the game & Crank the Music up, & the effects down as it should be! He He!
For the record guys the mods for the Jag were written first followed by conversions to the ad-lib and roland for pc. The cd was an afterthought and only produced after Atari realised that the game was going to be a big hit for them.
Great stuff you got here, this is Ryan of Trideja. I think Atari commissioned the CD first, and then whomever had to transcribe it into MOD format for the game really cleaned up the music. I think it is interesting in that regard, that it was much better in the more limited format :) MOD's tend to lean toward harsh techno really well :)
It is an Honour at last to meet you Ryan. You are an illusive man! You are completely correct as always! The CD Music was done first. But by the Time all the other programing for the game had finished, they had little Room on the Cartridge to use the "High CD Quality Technorave."
So they took samples, & used pitch speed to obtain notes. Even so, they could only use 7 Tracks. Be sure to check my Mind's Eye Remix. I'm sorry but I used some of your material to incorperate into it! Thanks Ryan.
hey.big fan of tempest. Bought it on day of release back in 94 (if i recall chasing the postman down the road). I actually think this game got me listening to music other than the usual crap on the radio. Used to crank this so loud, caused no end of problems with the neighbours even in a big detached farmhouse! If you could forward the link to the download, would be much appreciated. Cheers
It is called "Mind's Eye" - But it's the Atari Jaguar Version that was NOT on the CD Soundtrack. I've also Done a Remix of it if you want to hear a Extended Version that builds up & gets better, & better.
Although my original intension was to remaster the JAG Soundtrack only (which only consists of 7 Tracks) I find many people still expecting me to continue to remaster the rest! There arn't any more to remaster as the CD soundtrack ones (including Hyper-Prism!) are Top quality already! Unlike the MOD files that lacked Studio Quality effects.
I may re-vamp a few tracks from the CD soundtrack, but not just yet as I'm working on a Mind's Eye Remix. Due to certain requests! a Fave it seems!
Oh yeah, forgot that Hyper Prism wasn't in the Jag soundtrack. There are also a few that didn't make it in any of the game versions.
Btw, can I just get downloads of the CD soundtrack from you? I feel that, while not as great when it works in the game, the CD soundtrack sort of has a mellow, electro feel to it. I want to give my gf a CD for her birthday, and she said she loved the Tempest 2000 soundtrack, so... xD
It's so sad not many people gave the Jaguar a chance. It was horribly under developed and untapped. I still love my Jaguar though. I even have the brushed aluminum "cat box" expansion adapter that adds pretty much every output under the sun except component.
It took me ages to find the mod files a log time ago. I'm offering a download link for those that would like my remestered songs in their collection, but I make it my buisiness to decide who I give it to! Avoiding copyright laws is a full time job!
Selling? No Way! This is a charitable Project for all the loyal fans! We deserve to have these tracks in our collection. And we waited long enough.. But Atari never released them. So I took it apon myself to Re-master instead! If you wana copy, E-mail Or message me & I'll give you a link for MP3 Pro high quality Download. (E-mails are checked first, You tube Messages I do after, usually in the evening) Thanks for your interest. Kindle

Never seen the game before, think I heard of it, but what a soundtrack, so lush and chunky :]
Talking of atari i've got a 520ST sitting dormant atm, thinking of setting it up as a midi controller and doing some hardware only recordings :]
Was Tempest 2000 available on the 520ST? If so i wanna get it :]

great remixes to a great soundtrack, what more can ya say
jaylex666 2 years ago
I happen to like the CD version of the songs...
aside from that though, you do have most of the names for the songs wrong.
example, you refer to the rock song as "No"...
The Jaguar version was titled "Thrash 5"
and the PC/CD version was named "Ultra Yak"

I wonder what the remastered version of Hyper-Prism sounds like. I love that song.
You obviously know everyone will be happy once you get it all done, I just want to say keep working, man! I am forever debted to you for doing this.
