I have a gun on me right now. You can be licensed to carry concealed in Canada. What surprises me is that NO ONE on the bus had a gun on them in the Canadian prairies, of all places. There's a lot of rough necks and cowboys out there, but mainly elderly people on that bus.

Lucky you, at least here in Alaska I don't need a permit. According to canadacarry . com you need a reason for defense to carry a firearm. "It is effectively illegal to carry concealed handguns in Canada, Although there is permit that allows people to carry if they can prove they need to protect their lives but the permit is very rarely issued. Defensive use of firearms is uncommon in Canada."

What's interesting about the conceal law, that, I'm sure you saw on the website, many are protesting, is that you have to have small arms training to get a hunting licence, which is the first step to getting a conceal permit, which has very broad wording as to what is worthy of "defense".
I wouldn't be surprised if not many permits are issued because not many people apply for them?
I likely still have mine because of some grandfather clause that I haven't looked into, as I've had it forever.

One of the fellows that I had worked with for many years is now retired but they awarded him a new permit even though he, technically, doesn't need it which makes me wonder about a grandfather clause? I'll have to look into it.

Our entire legal history, from the Romans until today, is premised on the notion that only one who intends his actions may be held accountable for their natural results. Any other result would be absurd. For example, bumping into someone cannot be assault without meaning to apply force.
