  • Oooo, at 0:56, I could totally see myself messing up my knee real bad because I would lock my knee and forget to bend before shifting my weight.

Oh man, I cringe just thinking about it.

  • I agree, you should be contracting in the Samba. These are Cruzados walks tho, I wanted Promenade walks....

  • How is contracting old fashioned?

It's what makes samba the samba.

  • Contracting? This is so old fashioned!

  • The guy with the jeans in the background is really pissing me off

  • what is wrong with him?

  • I'm learning competition international-style samba at UC Berkeley right now (2009) and they definitely tell you to contract and release. You must be learning a different kind of samba.

  • I wonder when this was video was made because as far as i know there has not been any contract and release in the samba since the

80s. Of course you still siwng your hips forward and back in a wave-like movement but it is not about tightening any muscles..because that feels quite unnatural

  • Since when does ballroom dancing feel natural anyway?xD Looks great, feels like crap :P (until you get used to it of course, then it feels natural again...)

  • exactly!

    step 1: Learn the figure

step 2: Do it 1300 times (Approx)

step 3: Now it's automatic and feels natural :))
