It's soo brown because pesto isn't traditionally supposed to be made in a food processor. Food processors hyperoxidize the basil making it brown fast and changing the flavor. Using a pestle and mortar gives the pesto a much better texture and flavor while retaining that nice green color. Also, extra virgin olive oil kills the flavor, I would use more simple oils.

That is not pesto, wrong-wrong-wrong.
Pesto ingredients are -
fresh basil
grated goat or sheep cheese
olive oil
pine nuts ( maybe a bit of walnut or cashew)
garlic
And a touch of salt + fresh ground pepper.
