I have one of these and there are several brilliant design features. Notice at about 5:23 the inlet valve opens to help flush suds out of the machine (see water running down left side of glass). When the spins start the pump shuts off to prevent air locking. It restarts as the tub coasts back to the distribution speed then a rush of water comes out. As noted, once the load is distributed, the tub rotates fast enough to keep it in place so it does not have to distribute before each pulse spin.

Is there too much soap in there?

Of course not. As you can see, there is plenty of room left in the tub. Eight towels is simply a weeks worth in our household.

amazin dam wish me niece n cousin could got me that i bet the dryer is quiet to.....stainless steel to i believe....only place seen a speed queen is at k-marts in Ga no seen a front loader seen a top loader one with hold up to 22 pds of clothes

Is it me or does the slapping seem rather loud?

The slapping sounds loud because the machine is so quiet the camera tries to automatically enhance the sound.
