I was there on that fateful night. I felt so horribly for him. I can remember that nervous cough at the beginning, but like a true pro he carried on despite the fact that he had a sore throat. This is hysterically funny if you have a twisted sense of humour. It's obviously done by someone quite talented at lip-synching and an equally twisted sense of humour. My favorite part is when "Pavarotti" forgets the words and just sings "la la la" until he gets to "silencio." If you ever worked with Pavarotti (as I did) you will especially appreciate the humour (the snorts, the screwing up of text, etc.).

@bigbonedp it's definitely real - the mic picks up a lot they omit from the commercially released version (coughs, mumbles etc). Most great "live" recordings have been studio doctered to improve the quality and patch up mistakes.

But if you're serious, it's obviously fake because the background music is all synth (I am a professional MIDI orchestrator and can hear synth a mile away). Not to mention the fact that this "professional" orchestra butchers the melody at 2:57. However, pastadodupy did a great job in overdubbing. Spot on!
