  • wow

this is really good, got through =]

  • oh... i didnt know this was about autism... sorry

  • wow.... there's really some weird people in this planet! :|

    CRAZY!

  • Cheers, enjoyed the film, I think it's very empathetic, and a nice score as well!

  • wazzzzzzzzz-up??

  • I also have worked sometimes with adult autistic people (not Aspenger's). I think that's only another condition to be. Of course is more complicated to do or understand something, but lots of autistics i've seen are more happy than a typical hi-functioning manager.

And, also, autistics don't compare continously themself to others like us. So don't question about if it's fine or not to be an aspenger's. For him it is, he dosen't need to "syncronize" with our feelings about autistic condition.

  • My younger brother has serviere austism, i'm 15 and don't know much about it.. but its sooo differnt from asperger's. He's 10 and can't really talk.. he mimics alot of words though, can say goodnigth and stuff. But not properly. He is still in love with teletubies and he does so much weird stuff.. Hes distant sometimes but other times he just wants to have attention and is very playful and kind.

  • Autism right :(

  • Anthropologist on Mars? Awesome! I'm currently reading The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat from the same author and it's amazing!

  • Sacks is one of my all-time favorite authors. I read his stuff over and over, it's crazy. MWMHWFH - flipping awesome book! Hope you dig it!

  • Es increible

  • This is reminiscent of Salad Fingers, ya digg?

    God, I deserve to die.

  • watch?v=H_B4RyWw-tk

  • ASD is not always dreadful. I share traits with those who have Asperger's, it's a blessing and I would rather have that than not have it. I think I am better at focusing on specific areas of interest but I am not as good as socializing and am quieter. I don't feel like I am missing much when I see how some people interact, however.

I understand some are not as fortunate as I am though.

  • I know a boy with Asperger's who is quite brilliant, although it really seems like he's on a constant acid trip.

I would imagine that'd be very fun though.

  • Every person I've met with Asperger's always acts as if they're somehow above everyone else, but that's just not it. It's not some kind of blessing. I love the english language more than most people I know, but an exceptional vocabulary is no reason to lift Asperger's up to some kind of pedestal. No one actually WANTS to be autistic.

  • I see your point. People do like having Asperger's though. It's nice because it allows people to narrow down and and focus on one subject and devour that one subject. This is why, sometimes, "Aspies" become these fabulous innovators. It's just a different brain structure. It allows this to occur in the minds of people with Asperger's. It isn't a bad thing at all in fact it's exceptional, a true gift to humanity.

  • You mentioned this feeling of superiority you notice around Aspies and to paraphrase, you say it's annoying to you. I think this is part of the neurology of Asperger's, this prentention. Plus people tend to focus on how gifted someone with Aspeger's is, so much positive reinforcement. I think it's the ability to focus on one subject, and the good memory that gives others the impression Aspies are "gifted".

  • You're ignorant & need to stop talking out of your asshole. I work w/autistic people for a living- NO ONE wants to be autistic. U obviously have no personal experience w/the condition. Yes, a few advantages, but none that anyone I've ever worked with wouldn't gladly give up to be 'normal'. Not ONE of my Asperger's kids have been happy with their differences. They have no friends, no relationships, they don't know how to play, they're outsiders and usually disliked. You're talking from ignorance.

  • No. You are mistaken. I speak from first hand experience and I am really tired of people like you assuming there is something wrong with me. Did you ever think there might be something wrong with your attitudes and intolerance? That might be the real problem! I am glad I am me and not you, tyvm.

  • And when did I say anything was wrong with autistic people?? Exactly, I didn't. Little defensive are we?

"Assuming"?? Are you kidding me? No, seriously, it is an assumption that something is different about autistic people than non-autistic? News flash: You are different. Everyone is, thank god, but the fact is some conditions have highly negative consequences. Sounds like you're happy to be autistic. Fine, but that does NOT mean others are. You don't know how everyone else feels. Surprise.

  • I believe in neurodiversity. Everybody is unhappy with themselves from time to time. No one is perfect. You, however, do not sound too happy with your work. I suggest a better attitude.

    Try harder.

  • Interesting. Didn't you call ME intolerant previously?? Sounds like that comment was from first-hand knowledge as well. You talk a lot about other people, but you don't know others, only yourself. So stop talking shit about what you don't know.

Maybe this is your condition coming out, thinking you are superior to others. I give you permission to be a self-rightous ass because you have Asperger's. Carry on, show me just how self-rightous you can be by continuing to make egocentric remarks.

  • I cannot believe that you work with people who have ASD.

You sound like a neurotypical who has a chip on you shoulder, doesn't like their job, something. I don't know what you deal is but I do know I don't feel like engaging in a round of pointless arguing with you. But I do feel bad for the ASDs who have to deal with you in real life. Good day.

  • UnexplainedGenius,

Dude, you're an asshole. I've been watching this communication and she's right, you're so egocentric. You just had to respond with another comment claiming your superiority, which she totally knew you'd do, obviously. She's got to be cracking up.

BTW, my brother and cousin have Asperger's. That is total bullshit that people with Asperger's want t be autstic-that is like the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Maybe for you, but not for those I know!

    "good day" lol Please!

  • As an autist myself in the form of Aspergers, I am personally glad that I've got it; it's given me a different perception of the world as we know it, one which no other person will be able to see as crystal clear.

  • You don't have Asperger's, so what are you talking about "first hand experience"? You are making false claims, that is messed up. You're quite an elitist, but that is part of Asperger's. It is you attitude that needs some adjustment.

  • Just because you've never met someone like him who is happy the way they are even though they don't meet your definition of "functioning" in society doesn't mean that they doesn't exist. There's nothing wrong with him, and from your attitude it sounds like you think there is.

  • There IS something wrong with him; he thinks he can speak for the entire Asperger's population. He's an egotistical ass.

I never said anything about functioning in society so I don't know what you are talking about. Read more carefully before commenting.

  • It is part of the syndrome to feel better than others, better and different. It is not just an attitude-it's symptomatic of the Asperger's (I work with Asperger's kids for a living.)

I agree no one WANTS an autism spectrum disorder!! People who claim that are just ignorant.

  • it is very nice

  • rofl i thought that was a chick in the begining

  • me too lol

  • I didn't want to know about autism, but my 11 yr old son made sure otherwise. Reading some of the posts on here I've 2 points-if you're asd & are capable of reading these posts & replying-good for you. My son isnt-but don't you f****** dare refer to him as a retard or spazz-he is low functioning but isn't SLD - he's severely affected by his asd-end of-why does it matter? because it means that for each day I have left to spend with him I can help him learn a new skill.tho

  • and as for those of you not asd let's hope this dreadful condition never blights your life - 1 in 58 people now and growing fast!! Coming soon to a family near you!!

  • very interesting

  • Einstein was autistic, he had Asperger's.

  • That is speculation. Both died before the condition was known of so a diagnosis is impossible.

Oliver Sacks says the claim he Einstein had autism "seem very thin at best". There are many other professionals (Elliot of UCSF, Fitzgerald, Walker) in the field who believe he didn't have autism.

Reading Einstein's personal writings and review of his personality characteristics, it doesn't point toward Asperger's. But that's neither here nor there as there's no way to know.

  • Ah well, at least everyone is doing well on bullshitting the comments of this video with their arguments and aggressiveness, makes it depressing just to look at them.

  • r these tranvestites? wat is this yheir really weird?

  • Nobody's on Mars

  • What the fuck is autoism, and what the fuck are these idiots babbling about?

  • clearly you're the idiot here

  • autism is when someones clever compared to you

  • Erm, no.

  • i fucking hate anthropologists

  • Autism is creepy as shit.

  • Took alot of guts to say that didn't it?

Thanks for your opinion, at least I can consider myself even more annoying towards you. <3

  • it really isn't... it's just a different plain of thought. There are different levels of autism, too. Many high functioning Autistics have become famous and have done great things for humanity--take Temple Grandin for example.

  • You going to say Edison and that had autism too like any other twat that believes in made up bullshit?

  • Edison? No. Did I say edison?

apparently you have a reading problem.

    I said Dr. Temple Grandin.

spell it out, and sound out each letter as you go. That tends to help my two year old nephew.

  • You read it wrong. I was using him as an example, as self-diagnosed twats usually refer to him/Einstein etc. to make them feel better.

Now please, get your pole out of your arse. Need lube too, because it's REALLY stuck up in there.

  • no, I didn't read it wrong. why are you such a prick? jeez.

  • Because you're a twat. Twat.

  • Yep. People claim he had Asperger's because it makes them feel better. Which is part of Asperger's; the belief that they're better than others. It's speculation that Einstein had it. He died before the condition was known so diagnosis is impossible.

Oliver Sacks says the claim he Einstein had autism "seem very thin at best". There're many professionals (Elliot (UCSF), Fitzgerald, Walker) in the field who believe he didn't have it.

But that's neither here nor there as there's no way to know.

  • Autism intrigues me and this is why. Certain people with this are so gifted. It shows just how connected actual thinking is to the structure of the brain, where the brain cells are and how numerous...various neurotransmitters and their roles and systems.

  • Truth.

  • Do not blame me!! i did not write the crireria!!!

  • Here are some of the Criteria laid down by the medical profession. IF YOU DO NOT MEET THESE, YOU CANNOT be diagnosed as having an ASD. A person must display:[amongst other things] 1, Severe and sustained impairment in social interaction. 2,The development of restricted, repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, and activities. 3, The disturbance must cause clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. IF YOU DO NOT, YOU HAVE NOT GOT AN ASD

  • moving and thought-provoking.

    thank you

  • 1:55 the guy looks like he's just crapped his pants

  • While I was at school I had several friends with Asperger's Syndrome, to varying degrees. Some of them were quite intellectual, but it was never clear if that was a part of their condition or something innate about themselves. I've seen studies that show a trend to high IQs in people with an ASD.

  • Heh! Your getting pretty close to home with that one! Autistic people can mantain a different look on life without appearing weird to others. People like me.............

  • by "people like me" do you mean your autistic or you understand .If you don't want to answer don't i'm just curious

  • No, I am not autistic per say, I am a part of the autistic spectrum as I was diognosed with Aspergers Syndrome seven years ago. I take offence to such tomfoolery but I know very insecure people who would. I am merely taking minimal measures to ensure the safety of genius incarnate, :).

  • Einstein had that too. I was skimming through the comments, it's funny because people get so defensive about subjects like autism. I think it's so fascinating, thinking about different ways the human brain can be wired and the different outputs this can cause. It makes me wonder just how people realize what they realize...their thinking, ect...how do they arrive at their conclusions...where they get orginal concepts, stuff like that.

  • To explore such realms would only lead to one solution:an entire eternity in order to put any means of science to use to find an explanation. The phenomenon should be left to take root and thrive with only miminal counselling from the phyciatric dept. to ensure success. An example of failure in the preservation of genius was Archimedes. Run through by a centurian.

  • I think that's a nice way of putting things. Thanks.

  • Naturlich

  • Hi snevelin, I totally agree with you, as you said, fuck being PC, how the fuck can anyone say that "autism is a difference and not a disability" Open your fucking eyes you fucking idiots, do not the people on this video seem disabled to you?? Do you think that they will ever have a family, or kids, or a good job like you?? No, of course they will not. And yes, i am autistic myself, and as snevelin said, no, i do not need any of that half truth crap to try to make me feel better about myself.

  • It all depends. The people on this video seem to be low functioning, ie. with mental retardation.

Higher functioning autistics aren't usually retarded, but it doesn't save them from being spazzes either. They use the condition as an excuse to act like a complete pseudo-intellectual arseholes and gain some smug air around them because they're apparently "better than everyone else". Bollocks to that, I may be a spastic cunt myself but I make no excuses for it.

  • Hi Snevelin, I think you will find that people that,"use the condition as an excuse to act like a complete pseudo-intellectual arseholes and gain some smug air around them because they're apparently "better than everyone else" Are precisely the sort of "self diagnosed" idiots i was talking about. I go to a specialist day centre for autistic people, and i can assure you that nobody there thinks that they are "better than everyone else" They are generally i think, all very aware of their problems.

  • But the thing is, I've seen many diagnosed aspies act like complete twats too.

You're right though, self-diagnosed ones are the twattier of the bunch.

  • You are right the "self diagnosed" ones are proper prats, but perhaps the "Diagnosed ones" because of the deficits they have, do not realise they are acting like twats. I suppose you also have to think "Who actually did the diagnosis" I suppose i could pay a "private specialist" to "diagnose" that i am actually a Martian, but that does not mean that i am one. I think that to be properly diagnosed the diagnosis has to be by a NHS clinical psychologist or consultant psychiatrist [as mine was]

  • NHS!!!? Are you nuts, or what? Since when was the NHS qualified to know anything about anything apart from pill pushing? They thrive on naive people like you? Get real.

  • Polyfooka, I think you might find that i know just a wee bit more about the NHS than you do. Where else do you think you are going to get a diagnosis from a consultant psychiatrist?? A greengrocers perhaps??? I am not the "Naive" one, as i have been there and done it, not just talked about it. Please tell us all why you think you are qualified to speak on this subject, we can hardly wait...

  • The NHS would simply ,if they saw some mental disability in some one would say they hadn't one .For money .Thats all it's about with the government.People like me who live with and are freinds with people with autism will know .My brother is over 10 and can't speak .He used to bang his head into walls and shout .The local council got the NHS to offer us a helmet and nothing more.

  • What would you have them give you?

I'm not bitching, I just wonder what treatment there is.

  • Hi revilo, There is no treatment, but autistic people need to be able to access the proper support they need from "autistic specific" service providers. There is also no treatment for, for example, Downs syndrome, but people with Downs are not just abandoned like people with an ASD are

  • I'm sure they offer some help, else they have their priorities all squiffy, with so much being spent of fat people/smokers.

  • Hi Revilo, Exactly, they waste their money on people whose "condition" is self inflicted, junkies and the like.

  • You think they are low functioning .They , compared to many other people with autism etc I have met are fucking high functioning .The only people who i've met with any link to autism etc who are twats are the people who still use words like spaz and retard to simply take the piss and are not disabled themselves and the people who don't even know what the fuck autism ,asperges etc are about .

  • I have a close freind who is autistic and can speak who is 15 and helped him through high school as he couldn't muster the confidence himself to talk to other people about stress and bullying .Which pretty much consisted of the fucking ideas you are displaying here .People take the piss not only because they are different but because they get more help .

  • People learn by watching and listening therefore the people you have seen being stuck up about themselves have done so due to bieng bullied by stuck up people .or they could be fucking good actors.

  • My channel is rubbish.

  • This is quite a decent insight given the time. A lot of NTs can't cope with anyone just a little bit different. If they think like that it's their loss.

  • people on mars play wow, its true. now that I have your attention, you must kick every emo you see in the balls or else my chemical romance will make another shit album on how much their life sucks.

  • OK!!

  • Give em hell soldier!

  • I do not know anyone with the condition, but I have to thank for the video.

I will like to learn more.

  • i have an autistic friend! And hes so fun to be with ^^

i help him sometimes when i am free with communicating, and understanding peoples feelings. and yeah its great to see someone get so much pleasure out of somthing so simple ^^

  • keep doing the grate work.

  • Well to be honest, they *are* simple people. Fuck being PC and claiming they can do extraordinary things, most of them can't. Expected for autistics of the lower spectrum really.

As an autistic spazz myself, I don't need pity or any of that half-truth crap to make me feel better about myself. Being a spazz isn't a bad thing really, to be honest. You get to piss off those tax payers. ;)

  • Political Correctness aside, nobody likes an ass. Okay, so you disagree with a point, but there's no need to be rude about it.

  • חחחח..איזה סרטון עם קודים..

    בפעם הבאה תעשה בלי קודים

    נ.ב

    יש לך מכוניות יפוות

  • this really reminded me of salad fingers

  • Huh?

  • certainly doesn't cover the whole spectrum.. just the bad ones

  • they are not "bad" .I know people much much worse

  • I remeber reading a book , a sci-fi novel back in the day, maybye arthur c clarke,... society in the future and they were trying to get a robot to work on a nother planet, up shot of it was eventually they took the brain of a highly autistic kid and used it to control the robot ...... what happened is none of our understanding could write a program which would except the inputs ie the purple sun and green sky. but the austictic brain found all of the inputs to be the stimuli that it desired.

  • Just Wierd

  • Lol Salad Fingers

  • There are two types of anthropologists.

    1) A person who studies humanity and culture.

Eg. The culture of the "border rats" between mexico and the U.S.

    2) A forensic anthropologist does study bones however.

  • there's way more than two types of anthropologists!!!

  • hey this might be me but anthropologists study bones and theres only about 50 in the whole world....

  • They study cultures and humanity, not bones.

  • I agree that in the Media Autism is usually represented by people with Lower Functioning ASD. In 2008 this is not a true representation!

Higher Functioning Autism is very sharply on the increase (1/100 children now has an ASD). Lets please be realistic?

I know of two people with an ASD who are undiagnosed and lead normal lives, they should be valued for their unusual, exceptional abilities... (one day maybe please?). No human on the face of the planet is "perfect" afterall.

  • Tinyblulites, you say that you, "know of two people with an ASD, who are undiagnosed and lead normal lives" Sorry, but you are simply wrong. You cannot have "an ASD" and "lead a normal life" as one of the diagnostic criteria is that; "The disturbance must cause clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. This is why your friends are "undiagnosed" They simply do not fit the diagnostic criteria, to be diagnosed as having an ASD.

  • Yeh, while autistic traits may indeed exist on a continuous spectrum, if you allow anyone with slight autistic tendancies to use the label then the word loses usefulness. I may aswell say I'm dyslexic because I mispelt a word yesterday...

  • Crouchtig, you are of course completely right!! It makes me laugh when i hear all the stupid comments "self diagnosed" people make. "I am a company director and i have got a wife and five kids, but i have got an ASD, cos I enjoy telling my staff to fuck off" I am sick of pointing out that, anyone "self diagnosed" cannot have an ASD, because the deficits that a person with an ASD has, would prevent them from recognising it in themselves. For example, it took me ages to accept my own diagnosis.

  • Yeah, my brother has OCD and i hate it when people are like 'yeah i think i have ocd. sometimes i just like tidy up my desk and it just has to be perfect yknow!'. Its stupid, i'm always like 'oh really? i suppose you dunk your hands in tubs of disinfectant every couple of days too, and I assume you take medication for this 'terrible' case of OCD?'. Idiots. lol.

  • Hi Psychojax, Ha ha, You have got it exactly!! I have had people say to me things like, "My friend has got ocd, because, when they are eating their dinner, they always eat their cabbage before their potatoes" It just makes you fucking laugh. They are too fucking stupid, to realise that, what they say would be really hurtful to someone that actually has got ocd.

  • Lol, yeah its always the dinner card. 'Yeah i got OCD, I cant stand my corn touching my mash, i'm terrible for it!'

  • couldn't put it better myself

  • Dear Caerleon87, with respect to you in view of your diagnosis of an ASD.. I suppose it's fine for you and your family because YOU have had a diagnosis (but at WHOSE expense I wonder? AS I shall explain..)

You have no experience IN THIS SPECIFIC AREA, you are such a lucky man, PLEASE count yourself as fortunate.

I've been informed by the NAS that certain area health authorities are UNABLE to offer diagnosticians specialising in the diagnosis C.n.t'd...

  • of children displaying HIGHER ABILITY Asperger's/ASD.

Diagnosis is POSTCODED for these children and adults.

Many of these people are having to pay privately and travel considerable distances away from home; or have the option of waiting many years fruitlessly hoping for diagnosis from their NHS Trust that CANNOT AFFORD to supply them anyway with the correct diagnosticians! C.n.t'd...

  • I would appear on the surface that children/adults displaying HIGHER ABILITY ASD are not being afforded diagnosis on the NHS at the expense of children displaying lower scale end ASD!

Apparently, diagnosis of Higher Ability ASD is in itself a SPECIALISED AREA (I was not aware of this myself until recently). Maybe that's why the stereotypical view OF ASD/Asperger's mentioned in the commends on this page are so prevalent. I think this proves my point. :)

  • Hi Tinyblulites, Firstly, your first paragraph does not make sense?? is there a typo in there?? I would not agree that diagnosis of "Higher ability ASD" is a specialised area, as to "spot" any ASD requires someone that has experience of ASD. Apart from this though, You either meet the diagnostic criteria, or you do not. It is that simple.

  • Hi Tinyblulites, what do you mean i have had a diagnosis at someone elses expense? What do you mean "You have no experience IN THIS SPECIFIC AREA, you are such a lucky man, PLEASE count yourself as fortunate" I do not understand. As for what the NAS has told you, they are talking total crap. ANY consultant psychiatrist or clinical psychologist can give you a diagnosis, that is their job. Take it from me, the NAS are not as smart as they think they are. Send me a private message if you like!!!!

  • :( depressing music

  • You know what I'm sick to hell with? Every time, and i mean EVERY time, i see a documentary about autism, asperger's, etc., they just about ALWAYS show the most severe cases, the cases where it's blatantly obvious they have autism and get people to look after them or do things with them, etc.

I have asperger's the only person who has ever noticed it without being told was someone else with asperger's.

    (continued)

  • Youtube wouldn't let me post the second half of what i was trying to say, so copy + paste this into your URL bar and remove the spaces.

ht tp: //img171. imageshack. us/img171/9946/picture22ie3. png

  • the most severe cases are the cases i am freinds and live with ...these kids are in the middle

  • huh?

  • The title really caught my eye. My favourite book by Oliver Sacks ♥

  • This is where YouTube (and the rest of the internet) should be heading, lets not just have the crazy and weird clips as the most popular. This is what we want to see.

  • indeed .and nice name .wish i'd thought of it .

  • This is a truly great video. Well done; you should be proud.

And thank you to YouTube for featuring it.

  • Finally, something worth being featured! Great video.

  • OMG who doesn't like flushing a loo with an old style chain flush mechanism!?!?

  • this video is reallt great, and it reminds me of why i wanted to be a care worker.

  • My little cousin has downs, bless her little heart.

  • someone could you tell me what this video claims?

    not good at English

  • sure. Basically, this video is about exploring autism within different people with different levels of autism in order to undertand them, and connect with them to make them happy.

  • thanks a lot.

that's a nice try for them.

  • Well its true its an amazing place! Well is just European countrys or can it be anywhere? Because I live in Canada and I say the Country I do not like is the States.

  • that has been a popular choice lol

  • I find this video truly interesting. Thanks to YouTube for featuring this video. An important exploration of someting is not widely discussed/known about.

  • i thought a woman was talking at the start

  • why's it called anthropologists on mars?

  • Anthropologist on Mars is a book by Oliver Sacks on brain disorder, I'm guessing there's some sort of connection.

  • Thanks. I got a little dissapointed when i saw that it wasn't about a new discovery on mars, but it was just as good.

  • Excellent video, keep up the good work :-)

    x hugs x

  • whoa there ppl.... whats the abuse for.... differences of opinion exist.... and just to clarify a point ........... as species evolve, they may become less able to adapt to change. therefore what appears to be evolution, may untimately prove fatal.

    good wishes

    robbie

    xx

  • so when everything has becoe the perfect being, then what? we would all die because allt he animals would have evolved into the perfect being aswell.

autism is very confusing, im glad some people are trying to make people feel better with it

  • jondea0

thank you for your reply. maybe death is the ultimate in evolution ? or maybe the death of a species is ?

this is an immense existential conundrum.... also, confusion is a good starting point... eventually clarity comes.

but not from abusive language... that always detracts from every argument and discussion. abuse is abuse... which ever direction it comes from, which ever direction it takes.

    good wishes

    robbie

    xx

  • weird

  • this was a very beautiful video. my brother has a mild form of autism and i found this very touching. =]

  • w00t

  • BastardMonk go fuck a dog

  • Typographical Tourettes?

  • your right. just because some of these people are autistic doesnt make them a genius but i guese its the way to they get so into a problem and they try so hard to solve it makes them seem that way.

  • /watch?v=pfVw90DDAjk

  • really cool video :)

  • At least they all look happy.

    made me feel happy :)

  • Made me feel happy too :)

  • hmm

  • its nice to see happy people :)

  • aww

  • Autistic people are amazing, the out look they have is just so different. They can solve really complicated problems much easier than the average "normal" person. My belief is that theyre the next genetic step of man, theyre just not wired correctly yet.

  • Very clever throry.

  • Bullshit really. Just because someone is autistic does not mean they're instant genius. I say so because I'm an aspie myself. ;)
