You can go to the web site "Food Network" and get the full recipe from Alton. His recipe is rated the #1 best turkey recipe. Really is a great recipe!!
All the girls in my house love Alton, I love how he explains things in simple terms, and you do not have to hunt down the ingredients from an exotic food source. Alton Brown, is A-OK in our book!
@frontier33 Not really--the salt is mostly used as a way to change the balance of the pH in the cells. Salt could kind of be described as the gentleman who holds the door for all the other flavors you brine in.
I would follow Alton Brown off a cliff. Along with his method of turkey preparation for Thanksgiving, you all should try his stove top mac-n-cheese...unbelievable, trust me.
Can i still brine my turkey to enhance the flavor even though it has already been pre injected with 8% solutions from the factory?? i wanna enhance the flavor, but ive read that if i still brine it, the turkey will come out too salty??? Any tips or suggestions?!?! I need help, Please!!
I tried this technique last year to make my first turkey EVER and my family thought that it was the better than any of the turkeys that they've ever made for thanksgiving. This is a must-try recipe. Kudos Alton Brown.
@ziberteck Also google Melinda Lee Turkey Brine and you will get all your turkey related questions answered, and also an amazing brine recipe! I would link it but with the link it won't let me post a comment. Hope I helped some, Happy Thanksgiving!
I use a brine that has apple juice in it, and my turkey turns out amazing every time. Last year no one could stop talking about it! Everyone should try out a brine, works every time!

Did this for thanksgiving (my first turkey) juicy and flavorful! @frontier33 did you rinse it good after brining?
nery0h 1 year ago
@nery0h I haven't made one this way, yet. I plan to very soon. I was only concerned with a 'salty' taste to the meat. Thank you!
frontier33 1 year ago
Ok. Probably a dumb question here, but...is the meat salty tasting after the brining process? Thank you in advance.

Most people that I've heard from on the subject do NOT recommend brining a turkey that is injected with a solution (too much salt).
Dreby14 2 years ago
Last year I had the same problem. I just added 3/4 cup of salt and the turkey came out AWESOME!
Ranger337 2 years ago
We just did a 22lb butterball. It came out awesome!

@Dreby14 thanks for the tip! you just saved me some money. LOL

iDrummer,
Without salt, there is no brine. The brine needs the salt to carry the flavors into the bird

I'm brining a turkey for the first time this year, does it really make a noticeable difference?

@ziberteck the rule of thumb is about 10 minutes per pound but start checking 3/4 of that
