Right on! Cargill is trying to develop our bayfront in Redwood City, Ca with filling in the Bay to create a city on bay fill. We will not stop till they do
Palm oil is food and sould not be used to be mixed into diesel to create biodiesel. It is criminal. I helps prices to rise, which is a reason why plantations are burnt into the precious rainforest and it makes poor people to starve as they cant afford cooking oil. STOP BIODIESEL before stopping the use in food products and soaps.
Re: burning - many species of plant in indigenous areas where plains are burned off, require a fire to germinate and create new growth. Those people survived, without clearing lands, and introducing species, and using additives... they did not ruin our earth.
Yes, I sit here in my powered home, with furnishings etc, I do however strive to one day make as little impact as possible, and I accept the damage I am doing each choice I make with heart that in time it will be different.
Also - there are many additives in foods which does not need to be there. Many of the 'foods' palm oil is in, is not real food after so much processing.
My lovely point is, hunks (which i am sure you are not) I think the video was a short but clear and well done snippet of what the maker believes, and so do I.
It seems though, that your job on this thread is make yourself feel better by belittling others and putting yourself on some kind of wobbly chair (not a throne - it 'will' fall).
You have your beliefs, which is fine, but you don't need to step all over people and abuse them to get a valid point across.
@no1pearlgirl So you believe in one thing, wow that's great.Ignorance abound, people do choose what they want to believe but they're not getting any wiser. All this talk on ecosystems, make me want to laugh. But thanks for your concern on our rainforest anyway.
Whoever told you trees need 500 years to grow? Well they can live for more than 500 years , but definitely don't need 500 years to grow to maturity. Guess you don't get to see much of a tree in your part of the world.
man rainforests take alot longer to grow. expecially the diversity of the ecosystems and all the animals that you think can be easily "replaced". it woudla helped a little if the seeds wernt ripped out. a bigger problem is a large percent that was taken down was never even planted and feeds the dry season burns
I think the point here is, You're right, A tree can mature in a short time, but, having that 1 tree develop a diverse ecosystem around it, called a rain forest, will take MUCH longer. the rain forest includes the trees, undergrowth, birds, animals, insects and more - that is something that will only come together given time and being left alone.
I think your comments "hunks169", are not only rude but completely ignorant. Not once has Tomatoslater claimed to know 'everything', yet twice without reason, you arc up and called T a smartarse... i think you have issues. If everyone on earth thought the same - there would be worse problems than now, live and let live.
And your lovely point being? Save the ecosystem and starve the people? SInce most of the land around equator are rainforests, are you suggesting we should limit development in the name of saving ecosystem, for whose benefits? Maybe we should start mass migration to your contry to save the rainforests from any harassment by the human being.
hmmm....now i know palm oil is all over the world in various products...good work palm oil...as long as it maintain the ecosystem it should be no problem...keep it up palm oil....
That's really important information. And it certainly would do no good to ban palm-oil if then some other lower-yeild oil came in and did the same thing. However, it seems we have to fight the battle where the battle is, that is, palm oil plantations destroying the rainforests. Coupled with that we need to make sure that NO other plantations take their place. But banning other oils will not save the rainforests if palm oil is the plantation currently responsible.
As far as I know , for every x amount of acres of palm oil land, the government will ensure people to have some y amount of acres of reserve jungle. But anyhow in my opinion , palm oil should only remains as food oil, not fuel oil. The yield is high, but not THAT HIGH , even if you cut down all the trees, you will still wont be able to supply every one's fuel. Other crops like jatropha has very ver high yield THEORECTICALLY. They might be the solution if biodiesel is the way to go
So are you saying the countries in the tropics should be planting as cash crops then, since they're covered in rainforests. Why do care so much if rainforests are disappearing? Americans love the tropical hardwood anyway, so stop being such a hypocrite!
It is disrespectful to destroy the wondrous diversity of a habitat for the single-minded gain of one product such as oil. Also, it is possible to gain hardwood without clearcutting a forest, by selective cutting.
So what's your wonderful solution here? Since Americans are one of the biggest consumer of palm oil? Cut down on the burgers? Or plant oil palms in American since any diveristy there is died off decades ago.?
we have a 'wonderful solution'! we are writing to all the companies that use palm oils and telling them to stop. and if we ALL do it then hundreds and thousands of letters are sent! all ready woolworths and KFC are saying they wont use palm oil any more!
what's my age got to do with it!? any way i wasn't the one who had the idea! it was palm oil action! and as i said "woolworths and KFC are saying they wont use palm oil any more" so what's your problem?
Of course your age has got everything to do with it. At your twenties, you should at least have some independent thought, you're not in your impressionable teens, luv. And where the f*ck is Woolworths now? You would be dead before KFC stop using palm oil. Palm oil the most suitable oil for frying idiot! Along with your burgers and fries!
palm oil has moved millions of people from poverty...if u wanna free palm oil, then free all the farm from europe, US , australia and NZ first. ....revert those farm back into forest.~~!!!!
This is missing the forest for the trees. The problem isn't palm oil -- it's overpopulation. Any product will eventually result in the destruction of SOMETHING if the demand for it is tied to non-stop population growth.
Yet the problem would go away if the population OR the demand were small enough. If you lowered demand and ignored overpopulation as a factor, then you'd still just have other problems related to overpopulation.. such as water shortage.
So what other oild do they need to subsist on , smartass.? Let me guess, soy oil, rapeseed oil ? (or Canola oil after they're artificially hydrogenated). Oh I've got a suggestion, why don't Americans stop eating burgers and getting fat. It's a waste of resources!
Right on! Cargill is trying to develop our bayfront in Redwood City, Ca with filling in the Bay to create a city on bay fill. We will not stop till they do

The problem is not palm oil. Palm oil has the highest yield. If you want to ban crop oil, ban other type of oils first.

but do the other oils create as much rainforest destruction?

As I said, among the HIGHEST YIELD PER ACRE. More than america's soy oil.
