  • Or even a 500GB laptop drive?

  • So I'm guessing I can format and use my old laptop's 150GB hard drive too (which is the same exact type of HD) ?? :3

  • O my gosh thanks a ton it actually worked!

  • Oh a 20gb hard drive for slim is cheaper than 20 gb hard drive for old xbox.... Amazon.com

  • Not false advertising. It does have 4gb but some of it is used for system data.

  • The regular hard drive for slim is cheaper and my old hard drive broke in process of getting it out.

  • @Adam92128 i thought the slim hard drives were no cheaper then 59.99? how are they cheaper , and the only ones i found u can buy at stores were 100$

  • does it work for 2 gb

  • If I get a 250gb hard drive for my 4gb 360 will I be able to keep my stuff? Will it store the system info twice and is there a way to get around this?

  • Thanks for the tip man, very useful information

  • Is this recommended to install this way from Xbox or is this a hack/work around?

  • Worked like a charm thanks dood

  • now i have 50.0 GBS

  • so uh i did this and it worked your fucking awesome for posting up this video :D

  • Old xbox dashboard fail...

  • I felt dumber after listening to this guy for three mins

  • See below for the rest: Battlefield 3 with the HD texture content and it works, no problems.

  • For anyone that is doubting this guys video, I will stand by him and say that it works.

I have just put my old 60gb hard drive inside my new 4gb slim console, although I didn't use a hammer, I just used a normal screwdriver. After a while the torx fittings will wear down and a normal screwdriver will turn. Just be patient. As said in the video be very careful with the hard drive. I plugged it straight in and it was workin when I turned the Xbox on.

Also, I did this mod purely so I could play

  • any one on

  • Not only did you use a hammer and pliers on sensitive electronics. n00b. Its also not false advertisement because no memory unit/hdd of any kind has exactly the amount of storage claimed. Every memory unit has less accessible space due to the file system, boot sectors, etc. next time your in a store look at the packages, they clearly state such.

    Thumb Up

  • i need 6 or 7 or 5 gigs what about a new hardrive

  • I'm sorry if this has been asked before but if I do this can I still play original Xbox games? I heard that I need a legit hardrive to play them. I really want to play Halo 2 and Shenmue II...

  • @fordmustangjaime

Yes you can! This is why I bought an original 360 HDD after finding out my 4GB slim won't play them. Installed this, it slots in very easily (I just plugged it in first time, no difficulty at all) and now Morrowind starts up.

It's been a while, now show me the pixels.

  • @fordmustangjaime your putting in a legit xbox360 hdd, so yea, it should work

  • bull shit i tried this i did it perfect and my xbox went red and didnt work

  • Nic vid

  • I did exactly as was shown in the video (except using proper tools to open the hard drive instead of a hammer) and it worked flawlessly. Thanks a million :)

  • Thank you so much for posting this tutorial! You saved me a bucket load of confusion and frustration!

  • oo that's bad, that bad, thats bad XD

  • Will this let me download the Battlefield 3 texture pack?? Please reply! Thanks

  • It works! kudos sir.

  • Do i ahve to manually transfer saves and gamertags that i've saved on the 4gb xbox to newly added hard drive?

  • @xbimpyx Buy another hard drive then get the transfer cable and transfer your old hard drive onto your new hard drive

  • I'm sorry, did you say -smash- the hard drive open?

    Lolno.

  • I highly recommend putting electrical or duct tape on the HD so you can pull it out later. Don't tape any part of the circuit board, just the top or the small bit of plastic on the bottom.

  • why is this so complicated!! i wish i bought a ps3 instead but my 360 was a 1000 times cheaper. agr now i got a stupid ring of death and im thinking of buying a slim since the slims seem to have less errors than any other 360 but i have all my freaking games saved on my hard dive and stuff!!!

agrrrh i dont know what to do!!!! and i just buoght skyrim 2 but i cant play its saved on my old hard drive!!!! AGGHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!!!

  • maybe you should wrap the pliers with electrical tape and use needle nose.

  • When you were gonna take the hard drive out I thought you were gonna use a hammer xD hahaha jokes

  • This is what I'm doing, screw Microsoft the money grabbers, should be like ps3, can use any hdd that we want.

  • "Ach. Ech. Uggg... Ewhhhhh. That's bad. That's bad. That's bad." LoL

  • I have the 4gb one and I am almost out of memory will I loose all my saved stuff If I do this?

  • They sell this enclosure for $4 on Amazon, better than having to worry about lining it up.

  • Cheers mate, helped heaps!!

  • Siik idea microsoft, make a console where u can't put in your old hard drive without taking it apart (Y) well done

  • y cant you use a piece cardboard to help a-line theharddrive?

  • Thanks dude :D My parents didn't wanted to give me money for an xbox.. I worked and I can only afford a 4 gb one :p With this you maked my day :D Thanks :D

  • "I'm not sure how to explain it." - We got that part.

  • Thank you man this helped alot!!

  • do you think i need to formate my hardisk befor i smash it ?

  • get a piece of string, put it inbetween the two connectors, pull on the string when you want it out

  • computer caase? is that a cool master whatever? i got something that looks very similar, lol

  • So uh I used a hammer ... LOL xD

  • So this will let me download the BF3 HD pack right? Anyone know if this works for that?

  • someone help, i am a tech newbie so bear with me, undid the old 360 harddrive the proper way, as me and hammers dont mix !, inserted the harddrive as vid shows and got the click when i put it in, put the casing back on and plugged it all back in, turned it on and waited a few seconds got the xbox screen up then 2 secs later got a red light and an error that says E68 error?? any ideas??

  • @CH31se4fc read the descruption

  • @CH31se4fc hard drive error.....NM some one has already commented

  • btw is that safe to use an old hdd to new slim?, cuz im curious about it.

  • thanks man! i saved my 100$ but i scared to pull it out, its really hard! haha :D

  • ummm okay so i took the hard drive out and stuff ( with ta few scratches on the green side of it thanks to the annoying metal all over it i had to remove) and i placed it into the slim, it clicked and all was okay, but it doesnt come up on my xbox at all, did the scratches ruin everything??

  • microsoft disapoints me

  • i scared about smashing hard drive

  • Will original Xbox games work on this

  • Hey add EpicSpud99 and ill make a map with you on Halo 3! :D

  • Can you transfer data from the newly plugged in HDD to the existing one?

  • i'm an idiot.. so, if i do this, do i get my old achievement and my old profile? or can i like go to xbox live in any xbox? or or ororor... what? xD

  • Bro tip: put duck tape on the HDD and use it to remove the HDD easy instead of playing dentist, problem people with common or lower IQ ;-/) (couldn't resist the trolling but whatever, it works so vote this comment up so others can see it and enjoy their lifes a bit more :D)

  • Well i bought a normal hard drive that havent been in a xbox every before how do i get it to work on my XBOX?

  • @xByAnders google it, you need to download some data into the hdd so that the xbox can use it, for example the OS

  • looks like they made it hard to change harddrive on purpose and the harddrive needs to be a special format lolz

  • I've had my Xbox slim for a year and a half now. I just bought borderlands game of the year edition and it wants a hard drive to put it on... I checked in this spot and there isn't anything there... Is there meant to be anything there? I still have memory space in the Xbox and am confused. My warranties up, please help!

  • i love you... however i didnt follow all of your instructions :P it works fine but i opened the first set of screws on hard drive case with a 5 inch knife and the other set of screws with a small flathead lol it seems to be fine and i can finally enjoy fallout's dlc :P

  • Battlefield 3 had me download 3 gigs of updates on my 4gb harddrive. what the fuck microsoft, 4gb isn't even enough for one fucking game. get your shit together

  • The Hammer had me HOLLERING over here. and try some needle nose plyers in insert and remove the hard drive

  • Lmfao "ya I just broke mine open wit a hammer" this guys hilarious

  • yesssssssssssssssss thx it worked

  • LOL hammered it, I ripped mine with my hands and used pliers and ripped the metal yesterday, glad its working :P

  • Did this now. 4gb xbox slim, 60gb old xbox hard drive. Works great installing games onto it right now.

  • You used a hammer? Wouldn't a star screw driver be preferable?

  • gracias amigo, me sirvio para mi disco duro de xbox360 fat y lo coloque en mi slim, saludos desde venezuela

  • i put mines in CORRECTLY and then i went to storage and its not working .help please?!?!?!

  • does that thing in the description basically convert an original hdd to an 360 slim one then?

  • @tyfe1994 no, if its a regular laptop hdd, then you will need to google search on how to reformat it to an xbox360 hdd.

  • @SiddGoneWild yeah i mean an original 360 hdd to a slim one. my bad

  • @SiddGoneWild dude maybe u should of told me that u need a screw to get the screws thats fuckin super glued to the fuckin hard drive u made it look like all u had to do was hammer it and put it in and thats it !!!!! now it's broke and i cant do shit with it.

  • @younghannible There is a green annotation at the top at around 1:06 that takes you to another video on how to properly open it. The annotation note specifically says not to use a hammer.

  • @willadams160 it didn't work for me the first time so I lined it up again and pushed in more firmly and it worked then.

  • This actually worked! Thank you soooo much!

  • Question: Will I need to do any programming modifications to the 360 Hard drive before I transfer it over?

  • I tried this but when looking on storage settings there is no other devices there?!? what am i doing wrong, sure i connected it correctly.

  • Some janky ass shit bro lol

  • way to spell warranty wrong in the info dawg

  • ...be sure to have the right tools to take it apart...he said he used a hammer...DO NOT HAMMER IT!

  • @50cal6R36 -.-, is everyone blind or do they have the annotation turned off?

  • @SiddGoneWild so basically you take the hdd out of the original 360 hdd case like in the first minute 30 of your vid, then put it in that case which fits snuggly into the 360 slim, as opposed to having to find the middle and everything?

  • @SiddGoneWild Annotation turned off

  • it works!!!! thx!

  • Okay... so does this actually work? I'm faced with the same issue and would like to access my old hard drive. If I jerry rig my shit am I going to be banned from xbox live like people are saying?

  • @snood64 jher take out the hard drive

  • @joshfig96 no. it has different firmware and you will be banned from xbl

  • Thanks. It might be hard to get out but hell ill never really need to take it out

  • Worked! Thanks for saving me lots of time

  • Wow. Had an old hard drive and friend just got a 360 slim. It actually worked. You the man.

  • i have an 80gb toshiba sata hdd can i install it in to my 360 4gb slim? i have 0.6gb left on my internal flash drive..

  • Thanks to this dumbass I got red dot bc there was no rings just the middle dot!!!

  • cool i took mine apart today better to use a torx.

  • hammer on a hard drive... nice. This was informative but you did about a billion things wrong!! wow

  • Dear god retard alert class! 1.Used a hammer to break open his hard drive case which makes him even lucky it still works 2.Always hold a hard drive by its edges or you could damage it by ESD. Obviously this guy should never be let around electronics.

  • When you install an external hard drive a lot of DLC's will not install to that location. They will only install to the main hard drive. Example, I have halo reach and only 4 gig 360 slim. I can only install it to that HD it says, not eh external.

Will this method shown allow me to install DLC's and such, to my ghetto rigged HD like the one in the video?

  • I don't have that new console, but I'll still add to my favorite, maybe I'll buy one in the futur :P Really useful man!

  • Now i can buy battlefield 3 and not play in shitty sd :)

    Cheers!

  • Dude, in a non-gay way, I love you. I thank you, and I hope you have a good life. ITS ALIVE! :)

  • Ok. I smashed everything with a hammer. Now what?

  • @jsperkin1968 Now you buy a new one! ;)

  • @jsperkin1968 aim for the middle :D

  • @jsperkin1968 dont it will screw up your hard drive

  • I LOVE YOU!!!!! lol

  • just used this for BF3 HD pack, shame I had to do this to play a freaking game, its works tho :D

  • will this work with the battlefield 3 download?

  • @billygone2riot i have the same fucking problem, bf3 refuses my damn flash drive and i cant get the hd dwnld.

  • The reason you see only 3 GB of the 4 GB is because the 4 GB is flash memory used in a 32 bit game console which by it's very nature can only address 3 GB of memory, similar to 32 bit Windows.

  • thanks mate now i can play sanandreas

  • if any one is thinking of doing this i recommend gettin a torx 8 screwdriver rather than a hammer lol

  • X+x = g66%-€+srt+8 = LO 37%Srt ¥

  • Thank you so much!!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Typical microsoft garbage.

  • @82977831 and you're the 12 year old waiting for the ps4 or an apple iconsole. go play minecraft, that's the best game made for either pc or mac.

  • @Dietcamstudios

    Incorrect. But nice try.

"Let's create a new xbox design that is not compatible with the original format. Well... unless we make our loyal customers also purchase an additional item to transfer data they purchased from our gaming plateform.OR we can make it easy but they have to void their warranty to do so. That way when the $300 console we created over-heats in 4 weeks we don't have fix it for free."

I stand by my original comment. Typical Microsoft garbage.

  • @82977831 hahahaha i laugh at your lack of knowledge. i got my xbox 360 slim @ target for $140. that's less than half of your estimate dumbass. "not compatible" my ass, it works just fine and if you're worried about invalidating a warranty on a $43 hard drive (focalprice) then you can go buy an original ps3 on release day for $800 fucking dollars. oh and f.y.i. - i've been loyal to microsoft and they have never ripped me off. all my systems have worked for years upon years...

  • @Dietcamstudios

Happy for you dipshit. But It's not an estimation. Look it up at typical retail store. If you want a 250 Gig console then you pay $300.

And once again you're wrong. And nothing I said was incorrect. The old hard drives do not fit the slim model. That is called incompatibilty... unless you buy a separate transfer cable OR void your warranty by cracking the shell. And thank you for proving my point... I should not have to buy and additional hard drive.

  • @82977831 ...continued... (my original xbox has lasted since the release date, AND STILL WORKS!!!) since i got my xbox 360, I've played it hours upon hours and it's never over heated (and it's crammed into a small cabinet with little ventilation).

P.S. - suck my dick cuz now i have to go over to my cousin's house to re-solder his cpu back onto the mother board after it has over heated *calls cousin* 3 fucking times. jokes on u asshole. if the soldering doesn't work like that ps3 POS does...

  • @Dietcamstudios

A classy statement from an obviously uneducated person.

Enjoy your cousins dick in your mouth. Remember a good dick-sucker swallows. But I'm sure you already know that.

  • @82977831 "241543903" all i have to say to you. google it. oh! and one more thing- i never proved your virgin ass right. i only made it sore. and that my friend is you are a sore loser who has no respect for their surroundings... make sure you slam the refrigerator door...

  • @Dietcamstudios

Really? That's what you were trying to convey with your incoherent, unintelligible ramblings? Well-crafted moron. Maybe instead of playing xbox and sucking dick you should pay better attention in 2nd period English class. That's the class you have in between your first period beating and 3rd period beating.

I have plenty of respect for my surroundings... just none for you.

    Again, typical microsoft garbage.

And I appreciate you proving my point. I win.

    Goodbye.

  • @82977831 "rambling" lol, i actually have ocd. now how do you feel to make someone that types on their keyboard in 120bpm... and counts lines on the road... and tries to find the exact center of a tree and bore my eyes into it... and commonly thinks about common body functions like blinking, food digestion, and blood flow. thanks asshole, that really wants to make me go play halo, or the best looking racing game on 360- forza 4.

  • @82977831 ...continued... he will buy an xbox 360 like any normal person should.

    t(-_-t) peace out bitch.

  • @Dietcamstudios

Thank you. No reason to get worked up, lamebrain.

I'm sure you're used to losing arguments.

And thank you once again for proving my argument.

    Typical microsoft garbage.

    Your ass? Delivered.

  • Thanks this really worked.

  • This is cool I'ts not for me though. My grandson is 7 and he likes to tinker with things, There is a high probability that he would be curious and want to mess with this mod:/ Our xbox slim is brand new.

  • How to take my xbox hard drive apart

  • This really works. If you have any doubt, call your local gamestop and they can tell you it's legal. Microsoft even sells a tool to help get the case off. Good video

  • I have a problem. my xbox freezes at the "xbox 360" screen. when i take my harddrive out it then unfreezes and loads to the main screen, but once i put it back in, or if i have it on the xbox originally, it freezes! anybody know what to do?

  • @SemperFiScout79 there is an option to clear cache and to format the hardrive do both of these and that should sort your problem out.

formatting the hardrive you will loose your saved game data and any downloads you did but you can allways download them again no problem and you dont loose your online game data because it is stored elsewhere on a server for whatever game you play.

    hope this helps your problem

  • thanks mate =)

  • Worked 4 me thanx man saved sum cash ur awesome I love u now I got more memory

  • Awesome! You just saved me $129.99 my friend.

  • wow, a 7 gb hard drive? i put a 1 tb in mine,

  • Got it.... nothing more than FEELINGS :D

  • woo thx now i can play the old games to kinda a pain to fit it in there and i smashed my old box with a hammer to (funner that way ;) )

  • Lol it litterally took me 2 seconds to insert the hard drive to the xbox

  • Is there a way that I can attach this externally? It's because i'm looking to get a 4GB Xbox 360 S, but I think that i will need more memory for said console, and I don't especially want to risk breaking my new Xbox or voiding any warranty I may or may not purchase. I would really appreciate help, seeing as Christmas is coming and my own Xbox is one of the two main things I want to get (the other being The Elder scrolls V: Skyrim).

  • "So I used hammer and I just KINDA smashed it open" Wow..... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  • @teknogeek1300 Dont do that to your Xbox. Just saying.

  • @creap32 Dually noted.

  • try duct tape and ribbon its simple put the ribbon on the tape and attack it to the hard drive and pull

  • but does that old HDD affect our new xbox console ?

  • Nice thanks

  • does this old hard drive attached will malfunction my new xbox console ?

  • plsss do reply i want ur help

  • i wanted to know that till what HDD memory can this xbox 360 4GB slim hold ?

20 GB or more than that ?

  • @pheonixfear there are 320gb hdd's for slim, so i think that's the limit.
