  • 軽やかにステップ踏んで、まるでフレッド・アステアの様に。人生もこうありたい。

  • Lovely joyful song.Steely Dan ,Fagen and Becker.Freekin clever dudes

    Love steely dan

  • I live in South Florida and lived in Miami for three decades. I used to play this song when I would come over the causeway to the Beach. Fond memories. It certain evokes images of early 1960's Miami.

  • "The Nightfly" is one of the albums I have that has absolutely no "bad" tracks. I can listen to it from beginning to end without skipping a single song. Pure musical bliss! Fagen is a genius!

  • Perfect song for Miami Beach....!!!!

  • @centralparocker I agree this song is Miami or at least South Beach.

I think Domino Dancing (pet Shop Boys video) is 2nd .

  • Surfside Six. Miami when you could walk safely between the raindrops.

  • This must be following the rest of the theme of this CD, the 50's, back the way things were.....I open my umbrella for you as we get out of the car.....The Nightfly, AM overnight DJ.....Goodbye Look...the way things were in certain parts of the world, and you a tourist on touchy political ground. Yeah, the whole vibe of the CD was a great story of several people's lives then.

  • I love listening to this when I'm getting ready to go out, it's a happy song, esp. since i'm in south Fla

  • South Beach Miami is such a shit hole...concrete cancer riddled buildings...and an alochol & coke fuelled community...what a joke

  • @kevinherbert if you think that is bad, go to Bogota Columbia and see every single neighbor hood.

  • @MRresievil310 : Bogota is not a city in the Western developed world's supposed leading economy... the romantic petrensions of Miami are about the same as those of that other shithole Las Vegas.....

  • I pee pee in my pants --not really just a joke the same as this song..not one of the best.............

  • Steely Dan is unique!

  • this is real 50's the colonel castro era ....so evocative ......LOVE IT ..DENISE .U.K

  • I still have the album and I still love this song! I can see the golden girls trippin to this..

  • Summer nights on the Northsea,we played this track to death.................

  • Lovely voice, lovely hammond, lovely marimba, lovely vibraphone, lovely guitar, lovely rhythm, lovely tune!

  • video is great in this you can see how if you spent a week there and listened to this song. it would become a part of you.

  • Donald --please go back to steely dan --don't think this dance music will make it -------

  • This song is pure fun. Short and sweet. Call up WJAZ and ask them to play this song. LOL.

  • DONALD FAGEN/Walk Between The Raindrops 洗練された上質なPOPSとでも言おうか…、ひとつひとつの音が、緻密に計算されてる。

  • i'm 14 and i love this song

  • @nickster181 Always good to hear people of the younger generation catching good music. This is some of the best

  • As always with Donald Fagen, masterfully done!

  • asgood as the day i got it for a pound in netto.fab.

  • when I hear this fabulous piece of musicianship, I wish I played BASS. Stand-up, acoustic, thumping HAPPY Bass! Or VIBES.

  • swingin video:)

  • Love to Lindy-Hop to this. Fun stuff!!!

  • Love it !!!! Good shit!!

  • This song plays in the lobby of the hotel where I work. It makes me consider a mass homicide/suicide situation.

  • If you have not lived in Miami, you cannot go here.

  • This is one of the funniest pieces of music ever! Surely Fagen was joking when he made this??

It goes full circle, almost so bad it's good!!

  • @dazzdeadmeadow

    Thats because it is good!

  • A masterpiece!

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • Dude I fucking love this song.

    :D

  • It does not get better man.

  • So where's the Fountainbleu ????

  • @AllBobsAllTheTime about forty blocks north.

  • My mother, rest her soul, loved this song. It had the "swing" beat and sound that reminded her of the days when, as she put it, "I used to really cut a rug!" I played the grooves off this album. It was wonderful. Lester the Night Fly was the man!

  • fagen rocking it ......very kool!!!!!

  • Those South Beach hotels are dumps.....

  • @kevinherbert

But they are unique...I love them!

  • What an absolutely wonderful song this is! And I'm with you, castertunes...the best way to listen to The Nightly is in its entirety, no skipping, no shuffling. (I'd even go one further and say I'd go grabbing for my vinyl copy as well, but I'm just being old school...)

  • @wsr216

Is there truly any better way of listening to this album?

Simply because a recording if void of pops and hiss doesn't mean that it will take you back to the times you were introduced to the song and had to get up, gladly, and pick up the needle to play it again, and again.

  • This one song...... New Frontier... 20yrs later... I am still all about this one and only Album and song. This is the Cherry wine of musics soul.

DF is the Gods gift a peek at sinless rapture.. holy holy holy and this..

    thanks TSB

  • what a cool song! makes me wanna dance

  • This has been one of my favorite albums since college when it came out - my ex-husband introduced me to Donald Fagen - one of the only things he did that I would thank him for

  • nice song!

  • A beautiful pastiche.

  • Amazing tune!! I was there in South Beach in '95 in love with this hot 28 yr old beauty, this songs brings back some fond memories. wow to this day I still think of 28 as the perfect age for a woman. You never know where you're at until time passes, and then you hear the song and there she is again. Here's to you Liz wherever you are. as always, me.

  • when i was Kid hanging out me mums Fiat 500 roof to the chorus i thought i was the buisness, this song is one of the ones?

  • Happy New Year Miami!

    From the ATL

    ~k*L

  • @angelikawilliam brooke hogan has some nice tits

  • The Nightfly, Kamakiriad and Morph the cat. Does Fagen have any other solo albums in between? I'll never forget the New York rock and soul revue concert I went to back in 93 or 94. It was awesome. He and Becker with Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald, Phoebe Snow, Chuck Jackson. It was definitely an all star cast.

  • .........Steely Bad!!!

  • very happy song....!

  • I remember when I listened to this song when I was a baby. Such memories make me smile so much. I love this song so much. <333

  • ドナルドフェーゲン

    最高や!!!

  • Greetings from Miami,Fagen fans.I love this song.

  • Kool

  • The DJ Played this track (at my request ) 12 times, over and over again at my 21st birthday party....26yrs ago !!

  • The whole album has a funny way of doing it to you.

  • The drum track is perfect. Three cheers for Steve Jordan on the drumkit. The Nightfly is one of the top 50 recordings of all time in my opinion.

  • Top 25

  • top 5

  • Maybe but it would depend on the day

  • Nice job with the visuals (-:

Fagen at his very, very jazziest best.

  • Excellent..Thanks ...

  • FANTASTIC...!!! YOU ARE THE BEST

  • genius

  • Steely Dan

New listener, great music, heard some of the songs growing up (baby boomer)

    Thanks youtube for your site.

  • okay gotta go..put on The Nightfly, play it all the way, no skipping tracks

  • Be your bad self Don

  • fucking perfect!

  • U are the best Mister Fagen.

  • Fagen at his best, faboo...!

  • i rely2 love this songs, i ncluded this songs to my Masayoshi Takanaka's list of jazz

  • This is a fun song

  • The Hammond B-3 on this one is sweet.

  • Does he use a real B3?

  • yes, I read somewhere that it developed a fault during recording and they preffered the sound faulty! Quirky fucker huh? ..lol

  • SMOOTH vocals!!!! The DAN rules!!

  • No, Will Lee is playing and Ernie Ball Earthwood bass. They're no longer made...they were almost as big as a Mariachi bass but sounded incredible...I owned one.

  • This was played at my parents wedding <3

  • Deco buildings at the very best!

  • As far as who is playing exactly what in the tune (regarding Philliganes and Lee), I'm speculating that the bass line was written out and doubled with real bass and synth bass. It sounds as though thats what may be happening - although I could be wrong.

  • Hey guys! Will Lee definitely played on "Raindrops". Heres the run down -

    IGY - Anthony Jackson

Green Flower Street - Chuck Rainey

    Ruby Baby - Anthony Jackson

    Maxine - Marcus Miller

    New Frontier - Abe Laboriel

    The Nightfly - Marcus Miller

The Goodbye Look - Marcus Miller

Walk Between Rainrops - Will Lee

  • Nightfly - Anthony Jackson? Note choices sounds like Anthony Jackson.

  • i ´ve never heard the better shuffle.Steve Jordan!

  • I have. Check out 'Home at Last' from the AJA album. This shuffle is good but I'll bet it's looped. Listen to the sizzle on the crash cymbal on each chorus. Sounds a bit synthetic ... in a good way!

  • Maybe I ´ve not heard shuffle grooves enough:) "home at Last" - great halftime shuffle. I ´ve checked it out live by KeitCarlock. Steely Dan.Amazing performance.

This one looped? i´m suprised! Maybe. Anyway great groove. My favourite. Simple but actually not.

  • what makes you think thats looped?

  • I dont really thing so. I was suprised . somebody presents this idea.Dissenting opinion.

  • fagen/becker/dan just rock

  • Re Marcus Miller .. as far as I know Will Lee is playing bass on this track.

  • The incomparable Donald Fagen, sharing his life and childhood dreams with us. We are so fortunate.

  • I love singing this song live, and just love listening to it over and over. Love this album too...all tracks are jams! Thanks for posting!

  • Marcus Miller has also contributed the bass line to this album. Its a masterpiece as well as Aja and Gaucho , in my opinion. Of course I love all of Fagen/Dan.

  • woww, Miller did? thnx for this information! Jaco Pastorius lived near there (in fort lauderdale) too...

  • Another good song "Goodbye Look". "The Colonel's standing in the sun with his stupid face, the glasses...and the gun.". How about the title song. "I'm Lester the Nightfly, hello Baton Rouge....." A verse from one song on this album was used even in a Simpson's episode.

  • You're missing alot of important facts about this recording. Check out what the bass line REALLY consists of (not what you think). Would you believe Will Lee was on this album? How about that this was probably the FIRST digital recording of it's kind. Engineers used to use this to set up their equipment it's so clean. This album was a big impact to the whole industry.

  • love the awesome "Nightfly" album, the Dan, and "Kamakiriad"

  • not too fond of ''Kamakiriad''

  • Comment removed

  • It´s on Nightfly

  • Reminded me- this was one of my favorite albums back in the day (and still.)

  • Thanks for posting this great song; nice slide show, too!

  • Great song!

I just get so happy listening to the walking bass on this track:0)

It's my favorite album by Donald Fagen. All the lyrics are really good and it took me a long time to understand his irony.. "There'll be spandex jackets one for everyone"

  • A great 'feel good' song :o)

  • Brilliant - listening to this you have no worries in life.

  • ça swing à donf ! quel plaisir...

  • its a track that makes you feel good... isnt that what song writings about

  • This song sounds so delightfully artificial. Donald Fagen is my favorite eccentric in the world!

  • fantastic bass line....one to get yer fingers in a knot

  • The bass line is actually Will Lee walking on top of the keyboard making it sound more like an upright bass.

  • This one of my favourites Donald´s song, mostly because of the Hammond solo.

  • @monolevy

and fake marimba licks!! wooo baby!

  • A gem, man!! I love it!!

  • Hey, I live in South Florida, but not in Miami. I've been to South Beach. Those are absolutely gorgeous pictures that are perfect for Donald Fagan's song. I love this song too!!

  • Nice images to go with this great under rated

song from a awesome album...Many disc jockeys play this at wedding receptions as the bride and groom enter...

  • Nightfly is a one of the best things I have ever heard....and the background parts from Peg! This is soundtrax of my life!

  • Ooops! That thumbs down is an accident! I'm using a laptop with hypersensitive mouse pad. If I knew how to undo it I would. I agreethis is wonderful. It's also one of the precious few actually romantic, non-ironic songs Don/Dan ever did. Which makes it that much more special.

  • yeah

  • hackbasslessons, You are right on, thatdriving walking bass is something else

  • WOW

  • This is just about as near to perfection as you can get I think.

  • when all is said and done. At the end of the day. Does music really get any better than this?

  • And let us not forget the fantabulous bass work of Uncle Will Lee.

  • Without doubt this is one of the greatest jazz/funk tunes ever. Donald Fagen is a genious. Thanks for posting ;-)

  • This track is my favorite from The Nightfly.

Donald Fagen's voice is, without any doubt, my absolute favorite of all time!

  • I have it in Cassette,L.P and C.D,the best sounding one is on L.P.... I love it.

  • Dr. Mr. Nightfly

The day this song was recorded was the day the Hammond (or tonewheel clone) reclaimed it's reverberating rightful throne ... Thank's Lester!

  • wish i saw larry carlton play the solo
