  • I think this guy is paganini's reincarnation... I have watched all players from Utube... non of them could compare to this man.. everything that I want- he got it.

  • You know how they say, "faster isn't better?" Well, they were wrong.

And who else loves the octaves at 1:00? :)

  • @violinsizzle Sounds like a demon horse neighing. I love it!

  • Jesus christ! What the hell did I just bear witness to?

  • @Vesivian your answer is in your question

  • That kicked ass.

  • hes so good

  • This is one of those videos that brakes your head thinking in; what the hell we have done now in these days? NOTHING !!!!!!! compares to that, we were suppose to better classical music right?

  • o ma stai manzo zio

  • this is the fastest caprice no.16 that i've seen so far

  • Nobody plays Paganini with the same power as Markov ! Always great !

  • Paganini_Caprices ... der Soundtrack des Wahns....

  • fasterrrrrrrrrr fasterrrrrrrrrrrrrr...............

  • wtf this sucks.....

    go watch julia fischer

  • @xDwepee actually, fischer suckz coz she is slower, unlike markov, he played it very rapidly and with great passion and motion.

and by the way, you suck too

  • da only time i can play like that is if i was high...prolly not even

  • What the holy mother of fuck?!

  • Is it me or is this guy really out of tune on certain parts especially 0:20 onwards? I agree with whoever said he looks much better than he sounds.

  • a certain scott morrison after a few burger kings!!!

  • damn.that's awsome!!

  • che arroganza...:)

  • @dumbdogsdontbark You do know..... Caprice XIV sounds nothing like this...

    ~

  • I wasn't impressed with the beginning, but at 1:00 I was like, "What the H3ll..." I don't know what it is, but the way he plays it is frighteningly devilish.

And I'm saying that because of his attire. haha

  • I meant, "And I'm not saying that because of his attire." @_@

  • jajajaja se ponne komo lokOOOO°

  • no mamesss! se pasaaa de riataa yo kiero tokar komo el u_u

  • ...incredible!!

  • This is so cool!!! Great playing......I used to watch it on TV about 17 Years ago.......and I´m glad to find this recordings/videos here on youtube again!!!!

  • is he trying to look like paganini?

  • It is not importand, he play to fast and very interesting btw he did all 24 capricces in one concert. If we remember that, so, this playing is even will be better. Bravissimo

  • ahahahaah...indeed

  • I don't know but he's really good at it :D

  • Kids, this what youget when u have a permanent wedgie

  • AWESOME!

  • How awesome was that? I love his movement. Real strict and the music does soud it bit devilish. I guess Paganini invented shred guitar.

  • I'm think that guy is not a human...nobody can play like that!!!!

  • This is how it should be played ! Breath taking passion and devilish involvement ... Not the anemic boring academism as we so often see

  • Hey ceno-......guess what? That IS Paganini in my opinion. We humans all reincarnate, you know. And one thing for sure Paganini today wouldn't be driving a bus or plowing fields, but dazzling us all with his brilliance once again. Of all the violinists today, Markov comes closest to being the real Paganini. Possible? Yes, very much so. We'll never know for sure, but I'd bet my last dollar on it.

  • Possible ... but where is he now ? After this performance long time ago he seems to disappear from a similar level of performances

  • agree!!!

    you're right!!

  • @bene1007 No, the reincarnation of Paganini is David Garrett ;)

  • @slavenomore Uhhhhh.... no. Definitely not. Garrett is good, but definitely not Paganini reincarnated.

  • @genmaximus110 Well, that was meant as a joke... almost :D

  • wot is with the suit?

  • i think he's the last guy i knew wearing that old costume ^^

  • He states that he was wanting to give the audience the flavour of what it was like to go and see Paganini.

  • he does kind of resemble the Paganini from the old paintings & lithographs

  • Fantastico.

  • Superb interpretation !!!!!!!

  • who is the violinist

  • Alexander Markov

  • holy shit and i tought violin was boring

  • This looks hard to play...O.O

  • so great!!!

  • This is some pretty sick violin

    \m/

  • wow....he's amazing

  • this is sick

  • P.S. no one surpasses perlman !!!!!

  • I'd much rather listen to a guy who's a bit flamboyant in his interpretation than to a guy who's just flamboyant overall, Perlman is below Markov

  • Perlman is very weak at the Caprices. He's too mechanical. Markov plays them much more nicely.

  • What? you think that Perlman is mechanical. Why?

  • He's not very good with dynamics. The notes are played very as is, without much emphasis. I don't know. I just don't like his caprices. He's excellent with Mozart's violin concertos, in fact, I prefer Perlman's Mozart to any other player.

  • perlman?? he is phantasthyc, in everything, the only thing I can say is that sometimes he doesnt do exactly what is writing by his really strong smaltz personality but certainly he is one of the best violinst ever, in my mind he is the last one together with baremboim of the golden era

  • he's acting more than playing

  • wth is up with the octaves at the end?

  • Anyone else think this guy is identical to Andy Samburg from SNL? I'd love to see him do something like this in a skit.

  • lol your right.

  • Angus Young! XD

  • It looks like the violin is attacking him.

  • haha

  • surpasses perlman?

    NEVER!!!!

  • Surpasses Perlman?

  • of course he does

    much more inventive

  • i wanna see him play the guitar like

    or drums like that!

  • and this is Paganini????

  • yes

  • ye. He rock

  • Markov 's rendition of the caprices is the best by far! So dynanmic and different.

  • O.O

    wooooow!!!!!

  • Wow...amazing,specially the ending.

  • Loved the ending !

  • is he even human? o.O

  • Haha true.

  • This is how it should be played - with blowing and overwhelming demonic energy and passion. Putting everything in the performance. Breath taking. Not like that robotic anemic style like Julia Fischer playing the same piece. Maybe she plays all the notes perfect, but it is just dead boring. Markov is amazing, he gives everything into it. He plays like Paganini incarnated

  • Shred that shiiit!!! =D

  • Holy fuckpig! Is this guy just absolutely the best mime artist you've ever seen in your life or what?

  • the technique was obviously not perfect, but the speed was insane, close to cosmical!!!

so, he can be forgiven for anything

like his cheating at 0:36 (: that's not the bowing... but it might be impossible to play it properly at his speed...

  • :O

    He looks... oooo...

    Wow.

  • ok! let see your technique.maybe you have played all caprices in a concert!! remember. this is the best live performance of the caprices recorded in the history!!!

  • seizure anyone?

  • holy shit cakes on a stick. tahts very.. good =D

  • He´s the muppet show drummers brother :D

  • STFU you all want to sound better then you are ..

if you can play this then you have a place to

    for the record .

    paganini was a fucking genius

  • Taste is taste. Technique is fact.

Paganini never played these studies in concert himself, so as to how they´re ment to be played, all we know is what´s written in the urtext. The rest is personal interpretation, and no one is more right that the other.. what annoyes me about this video is how it looks much better than it sounds.

    Thats just my opinion though.

  • If I remember correctly from his biography he did play these studies. Not all in one performance but as part of a performance. They were his show off pieces.

  • @DrMontague Nope. They were written by Paganini to "violinists in general" These never saw the light of day under Paganini.

  • @BoeingB17FF He did play them as show pieces though not all at one performance

  • "Aside from one piece reconstructed by a rival from memory of several concert renditions, Paganini's only violin publication was a set of 24 solo Caprices... He never performed the Caprices in public. Rather, they were dedicated “Algi artisti” (“to the artists”) and comprise his legacy..."

Taken directly from the notes in the Rabin recording. Research your Paganini.

  • @BoeingB17FF 'Paganini composed his own works to play exclusively in his concerts, all of which had profound influences on the evolution of violin technique' Wikipedia. Unfortunately i cannot support my argument because I do not have Paganini's biography which I read about 20 yrs ago. However I do remembering the book stating that he would play a caprice as a show piece esp. when it was claimed his capacies were unplayable. They were never mean't to take up a whole evenings performance.

  • Paganini would often play short pieces to show off his skills but they were not the main part of his performance.

  • @gusmmati I think it sounds just as good as it looks.

  • LMAO!!!!!

  • Wow! Awesome!

Could've been better technically, but who cares? The piece was still great.

Chromatics at 1:01 sound so cool...like a ghost or something.

  • Damnit!!! somebody give him an electric guitar!!! plz. ...XD...

  • This Guy really feels the song seriously. At least he seems to like what he's doing, not just doing it like a machine :P.

  • Is he singing ?

  • hahahahaha

  • There are violinists like Kogan with better techniqhe than Markov and play Paganini perfectly. Its really great and educative to hear them but Markov is in a different class...Its INSPIRING and THRILLING to hear him play Paganini! With all the mistakes and flaws. He has something unique to say and thats invaluable.i think he grasps the spirit of the Master Paganini himself.

  • Totally agree. It is often believed that Paganini never made a mistake whilst playing. However like other things we read about the reality tends to be different. When he was on form people gasped in astonishment but we should be aware that Paganini also had off nights. It was also noted that he didn't alway perform other composers music with true spirit. What he did show what you could get out of a violin. In my opinion he was the first to break the 4 minute mile as regards violin playing.

  • BTW. Professor, you think stringcrossings benefit from throwing the instrument around?

(I have to hand it to markov though, he has a cool outfit and hairdo.)

PS.(Lets keep the discussion on an adult level

    without unmotivated personal insults,professor.)

  • You're thinking too technical. The point IS to "throw the instrument around" and generally do whatever possible to make it weird and theatrical.Markov is a pure virtuoso, and that has to do with character, except technique. He expresses himself and takes pleasure in showing off in every possible way, musical or not.

  • I just played this in my term examination, and i realise how much effort it takes to play this, musically quite uniterresting piece (let´s face it, it´s a study and nothing else) so that it sounds like music.

Howevwer, if you play what´s ACTUALLY written in the urtext, You´ll be surprised how interresting it gets to listen to without unmotivated tempochanges and theatrical antics.

  • Its Paganini. Its supposed to be theatrical and extravagant. Its not Beethoven. The text is nothing more than a guide to improvise freely in a pure virtuoso air.If you're playing it according to the text you're not really playing it.

  • it´s out of tune and the original "forte accents" are not audible.

When the player moves around this much, it´s inevidable that the string-contact is lost, especially in the longer string-crossings,

hence the uneven and scratchy sound.

  • hahahahahaha! bet you can't play two notes with the same intensity....

  • good point; I think gusmmati has been smoking rope...

  • oh cut the baloney. It's a wonderful performance and your "analysis" is pure b.s.

    A. Serafini, Professor of Violin, Centenary College

  • eso si es agilidad o_o

  • Amazing!!

  • His father Albert Markov is a master in violin, too. Amazing Markov's!

  • This guy is crazy........... i like it

  • This is the best rendition I've heard. I feel that this song should be played with ferocity. Even with the quiet notes, there was that underlying tension and vigor.

  • You dont have to be a violin player or a musician at all to know that this is freakin fantastic, although I think you get more appreciation for just how much talent it takes to play somethin like that.

  • in fact many people believed in the past that paganini sold his soul to the devil for the gift of music but in reality had a special hand his little finger had 10 centimeters something like 4 inches deformation in his fingers that allowed him to take notes unusual and impossibles and extraordinaries :P

  • In fact he had Marfan syndrome commonly known as spider finger.

  • did he really?

  • Yes, he did. free hoe lee toes free toes

  • Yes, he did.

  • Pardon me, but who had the syndrome?

    Paganini or Markov?

  • Paganini

  • Thank you!

  • Well done definitely among the best that I've ever heard. I think that Markov and Kavacos are the great Paganini performers of the 21st century.

  • O__________O

    wow...que genial

  • Paganini! *_*

    When I hear Paganini's composition I feel like I'm hearing devil's violin *_*

  • in fact many people believed in the past that paganini sold his soul to the devil for the gift of music but in reality had a special hand his little finger had 10 centimeters something like 4 inches deformation in his fingers that allowed him to take notes unusual and impossibles and extraordinaries :P

  • So much color, variety, and creative interpretation! Wow.

  • Fooly & cooly...

  • the way he approaches the chromatic descent at the end is hauntingly beautiful, really true to the spirit of paganini!

  • lol! wow!!!

  • Jesus F Christ!

    This goes to my favourites!

  • No. Paganini was really ugly. He's just ugly. Ok I'm only joking don't takr it to heart.

  • LOL!!

  • jo jo jo una bestia
