Not sure if this phenomenon has its roots in Classic Who or not, but the first Dalek named Fred was named by Ian Chesterton (the Great) back with William Hartnell (The Chase, episode 2). I just like the idea that the 10th Doctor looked over his shoulder just then and thought, "Hey! I thought I left you in that hole on Aridius five hundred years ago! What're you--"

(BTW: Ian called it Fred, the Doctor called it Auntie.)

Why is this Dalek called Dalek Fred? Is it a reference to Harry Potter, because Fred Weasley got killed in Book 7? I don't understand it. A better nickname would be Dalek Chino, because that scene reminded more of West Side Story (when Tony gets shot as he reaches Maria).

Dalek Fred is NOT dead.  Cap'n Jack shot him with the gun he made on the Game Station from the WNTW droids. People were not killed in the games, they were simply transported to Dalek central command.
