  • I wish it was uploaded in a bit better quality video. seems like th audio would be better. maybe we would hear more difference in teh comparison. still, great job man! what a great resource!

  • I dig your chops man, nice tone.

  • мне кажется для работы m13 это достойно и не хуже звучит максона))) спасибо

  • do u have that CE-2 chorus still.. Im am looking for one..

  • I have the M13 and the overdrives on it are really amazing when compared to the pedals they are modeling. But the distortions compared to A tube amp distortion don't compare. Digital distortion still has A long way to go. But I will say this. Its like having 144 pedals on your pedalboard and having 4 at once. I strongly suggest the 4 cable method with ODs in the front of course.

  • Absolutely fantastic tone. And the M13 comes so close!

Great playing too man, thanks for the video!

By the way what amp are you using?

  • apparently many things are equal, but when you see that play are not what they seem

  • are you using the maxon the M13 loop pedal?

  • They both sound about the same, but both R junk compared 2 a Marshall JVM, or Laney VH100R, etc =)

  • can't really hear any difference

  • Great comparison, sounds almost identical. How long have you been playing and what did you do to get this good?!?!

  • you rock dude!

  • who's the mad-man on guitar?! nice playing. thanks for comparing analog vs digital. i'm thinking of getting the M9. it and the M13 look like fantastic pieces of gear... keep rockin!

  • the first lick sounded like the old Queen song "One Vison" when the guitars kick off!!!

  • What kind of pedalboard is that

  • @DiscipleMe Cheap CNB case from ebay )

  • very very close tone. i would not notice the difference without you pointing it out so clearly.

  • @bozzi90

I have to agree... In fact turn your back and have somebody else looking and see if you can hear the difference...???? Ie: you would guess which one is the M13 and which one is the pedal....

  • wow, never in my wildest dream i ever imagine that digital pedal will sound that close to a great analog pedal. I'm gonna buy m13! thanks

  • Line 6 really has gone all out with their emulations. It's really something how damn close they sound.

  • m13 is a bit more compressed, but it's fuckin' close !

  • in your opinion is better rod 880 or 881???

  • Sick guitar skills bro

  • very close to an analog pedal? wich settings did you use? only the distortion "line 6 drive"? or something combined with that?

    thanks

  • alone, you can tell the difference, but in context of a mix, you're not going to tell

  • Me quedo con el Line 6 M13... LINE 6 IS VERY BEAUTIFULL

  • They don't sound EXACTLY the same, but they sound really good. I would use the M13 live.

  • why not compare it to the Line 6 Tube Overdrive setting? That would seem to be a closer comparison

  • this is a nice video. no crap talk at the begging:) More time for playing:D

  • How do you attach the M13 to the pedalboard? Velcro? I have to attach mine but I'm afraid it slips or moves.

    Thanks!

  • @tonidaredevil

Velcro . I removed the rubber feet and velcro holds perfectly

  • @DRUSJKI

Could you please do a demo of the m13 and your boss dd-20 like in this video?

id really appreciate it i need something to drive it home so i wont make a mistake on want to buy

    Thanks, Alan

  • I think it would be very hard for someone at a concert being able to differentiate which pedal is being used... even a discerning guitarist would have to really focus on that to hear it.... I am impressed.

    also good playing

  • great playing bro

  • good enough for digital right?

  • @Den1sVengeance Oh yes. I'd say so. I'm not going to use mine for drives, but hearing this makes me willing to.

  • mmm maybe maxon is more warm... but line6 m13 is not too cold...

  • I believe that that this unit works perfectly as a "start point" for someone who is no familiarized with stompbox (like me) and always use multieffects processors like BOSS GT-something.. or POD.

I'm seriously thinking to buy an M13, and a Fender American Strat.. (to get away from IBANEZ plus BOSS GT-8)..

I think it will sound great for an amateur-semipro sound..

Well.. thanks for sharing this video with us...

  • Great video and great playing!

There's so many things in this video that I would like to learn ;D

  • Can you please share the settings you are using on the M13? Which Overdrive is it?

  • Great demo. Great playing.

Reality check - put that M13 in the mix of a band in a bar and you're not gonna notice. Like when I put all that stuff bad for America in the healthcare thingy...you didn't notice. (but now you do. oops)

  • DUDE love your tele =D

  • Hey at 0:28 do you know the exact name of it? Greatly appreciated. Great playing as well.

  • First off VERY nice playing! second i like the Maxon better. line 6 is close but is just missing that musical feel to it.

  • Maybe my ears suck but I honestly heard very little difference.

  • maxon

  • To me, I'm not hearing enough of a difference between the two to justify having a single pedal that costs almost as much as the M13 on its own!

Okay.. slight exaggeration. But hopefully you take my point...

  • the line 6 would crack my head while trying to set a good sound :)

    so i prefer the analogs

  • @loucatuu i have the m13 and it has replaced ALL my analog pedals ever since i bought it... and those pedals were good pedals! (fulltone fulldrive, boss gigadelay, etc. i have a lot) anyway, it's not hard to setup at all. the knobs act like actual analog pedal knobs. i would recommend it for anyone.

  • To be honest a lot of 'analog purists' can really miss the point, they will take their 'pure' spring reverb, mix it with a warm tube overdrive then hypocritically run it through a digital delay or noise supressor - plus, a lot of these so-called pure analog pedals rely on digital technology. I have moved from dfx, to stompboxes, and now back to dfx with a pod x3 live because I find with all the cables and power to deliver, the sweet sound becomes very noisy - if u buy quality, dfx can prevail...

  • really awesome - only problem is that I can hear your picking other then that its great

  • Maxon is just a bit better sounding and more dynamic, but that M13 sounded damn good!

  • Man let's be honest... they're pretty damn close! Great video.

  • Unreal. There is almost NO difference at all between them. I can hear just the slightest increase in brightness with the Maxon. But that is all.

Isn't the Maxon unit a tube overdrive?

Hmmm. Me thinks I foresee an eBay auction of the Maxon. :-D

  • hey do u no wat the dimensions are on ur cnb ?

    im planning on buying one

  • You can definitely hear the more "glassy" and "digital" characteristics with a little less dynamic range in the M13 but the drive is TONS better than I had expected.

Definitely going to pick one up later to run with a Mini Amp Gizmo MIDI system.

  • Man i'd really like your sound and your playing.... and I really want to know the size of that cnb case. I have almost the exact same pedals but I really need to know the exact measures to buy the right case.....

    Please help me.

    WBR Micke

  • @nisselon Go to the line 6 website. it has the dimensions.

  • maxon drive hands down

  • wow. surprisingly very similar. I notice slight a difference, but man!! That's close! Thanks. Great video!

  • Nice comparison, the M13 does get very close imo!

  • To much actual string noise picked up by the camera. Couldn't tell a difference..

  • Can't tell the difference. However, the large amounts of string noise picked up by the camera mic take away from the entire comparison. Anyone making any firm judgments based on this audio is kidding themselves. No offense intended to the original poster. Just try with a bit more volume next time and keep the guitar away from the mic.

  • I'm running the M13 with a Tonebone Plexitube into a Peavey Deltablues 30w 15inch combo into a Marshall 1960 Vintage 4 x 12.

I have everything I need, & its louder than hell!!! Happy Daze!

  • I sat down with a M13 for a few hours. It has a lot of effects. But there were many times that an effect had one or 2 controls missing from it's modeled counterpart & those were the controls that made that effect unique. For an uncomplicated gigging rig, it's very convenient, I found too many things missing. I'd rather have the Maxon overdrive, an EQ, a delay & maybe a chorus. That's all I really need

  • very good but to me maxon is maxon and i prefer analogs....more dynamic responses...

    thx for post!! =)

  • Wow thats amazing close, I bet if you would have turned the names of them around, everybody would stay say exactly the same things. You aren't really vintage if you use a iPod and new speakers guys, come on, get those old casette's back, now thats truly vintage, do you feel the warmth!!

  • maxon is slightly more responsive, can really hear him digging in and getting what he wants from the maxon.

the line 6 modeler does a great job though imo.

  • I've played through all types of digital effects, some good some not so. it all depends on personal opinion. for me some digital effects dont cut it. i own some line 6 stuff and it has served me well through the years, the DL4 and MM4 still has a place on my live board as they are quite the versitle unit. I've takin off the DM4 as i only really liked one of its overdrives (coloursound) since then i've bought some handmade and modded overdrives. Clarity is second to none with these.

  • Maybe the Maxon has a hair more punch and clarity, but you know what, in a live or recorded mix, you won't be able to tell, and the audience won't be able to tell. If the M13 keeps you from tap dancing as much, and improves your performance and versatility, it's easily the better option. The maxon MIGHT be the better option for recording, but who knows.

  • That Maxon costs about $250 and you get what? a nice distortion box. The M13 costs about $500 and you get what? about 100 different effects - many of which are very nice, and great flexibility. You decide.

  • Fantastic review. I think the sound incredibly close and I really like how the Line6 Drive rings out. I have the M13 and love it. Love the fact that it can also ale pedals. Nice playing as well. Love tele's.

  • The Line6 is missing the punch that the Maxon has, hands down.. no comparison. I wonder if the Maxon's chip is the one adding the punchiness.

  • still notsounding pure to me !!!

    vintage its the real deal

  • line6 has gone far

  • slight loss loss clarity with the M13 but maybe a little post eq could clean that up. Still very close.

  • @jimmygtr I don't know man. I'm impressed. I've been disappointed with Line 6 for a while; that to say I'm not a line 6 [drive] fan. Love their reverbs and delays. Anyway, VERY subtle difference as I hear it.

  • line six is barly diffrent but the maxon has a more clear sound where line 6 has a little loss sound. but i can bearly tell its not enuff to not buy it id rather have the line6 any way's one money to all the stuff in it. three just cause its easy.

  • I like the palm muting of the maxon but i like the open chord ring of the line 6. oh if they could blend. 5 stars for starpower!

  • definitely, maxon has warmer harmonics than line6!

  • @bulenterdem1977 Yes, but the M13 is stunningly close. Wow.

  • How's the "feel" of the line 6 compared to the other single overdrive pedal?

  • Dude, you're good. The M13 is pretty amazing. I just decided to use it instead of my analogue pedals. I never thought I'd see the day that Line6 would sound this amazing. I love the "fixes" they did with the 2.0. Can't wait til mine gets here! I had the first version about a year ago and regretted getting rid of it.

  • I personally couldn't tell the difference...

I guess this M13 is THAT good!

Wonder when they'll come up with an M16 version ;-)

  • where did you get that case for your pedals on 0:28??

  • I'm buying it on ebay , cnb case . 45$ ))

  • they are so similar

  • Great comparison! Good job

  • line6 has come far...

but i'll stick with my Mark V

  • How about both?? I'd love to have a Mark V. Where did you get yours?

  • local guitar shop

  • Very good stuff.. The subtle differences are apparent to a more trained ear.. definitely analog but the digital sounded great!

  • hey, just got the m13 - partly because of this video! i'm playing around with the settings at the moment - could you post which ones you used? thanks .D

  • I was scrolled down reading the comments, and I didn't even notice the change.

  • analogo stompboxes look cooler!! a guitarrist should be just a man and his guitar with help from a nice set of pickups and a really nice amp, nothing fancy !!!!!

maybe a couple of pedals like distortion

or wah to color his playing

soul and passion should do the rest.

  • a "vintage" guitarist should. But times are changing.

  • great video anyway!!

  • now the difference isn't really big is it? considering i don'twant the m13 for drive settings at all, this is still pretty good. sure the tube gives it a bit of a broader range... kind of reminds me of the difference between piezos and usual pickups.

  • Dude , if you change the settings for the m13 for this effect you will be able to get them near perfect .. it just needs a little tweek... The m13 really is a first class board...

  • is it really good live,am not just sold on it yet but i love the idea of the tideness of the board instead of having 12 diff pedals all over the shop...lol..please advise ...i was also thinking of getting a vox vt 100 instead and just goin with a switch, and mabe a vol pedal and a wah,wah any ideas or comments would be appreciated ...

  • @MrStoneybroke Well the new Vox VT is amazing, you should definetly check that out. I really like the M13, and it will probably replace most of my pedals, but ofcourse there will be some pedals which just sound better than the line6 models (else the rest would run out of business). I'm going to compare my M13 to all of my pedals (I will probably end up keeping the Boss BD-2 and Ibanez TS-808, but who knows :)

  • The differences aren't all that much. Especially in the rhythm playing. You can hear a difference in the solos. The Maxon has a woodier quality that the M13 lacks. This would only be apparent in a studio. Live, the differences become smaller, and the Line 3 might actually cut through better.

  • Good job from the Line6 M13. It's not quite there yet as for 'aliveness', but it is close. The Maxon is like watching a movie and the Line 6 is like watching a still picture, the shimmering overdrive overtones are not dancing around, they are just there.. but not moving, just like all modeling stuff is.

  • all analog snobbery aside, that's pretty amazing.

  • Great playing dude,80% of the sound is in your hands, the maxon is great sure, but u cant compete with the value of the m13,sure the maxon has a tube, but if ure using a tube amp ure not gonna need one more its not going to make a difference at least a relevant one,if a guy has good hands doesnt need expensive gear to make it sound good,m13 is clearly the future im selling my pedalboard except the wah and buy this or the m9 just because it makes everything easier

  • "button changes to and the sound?" i think this is a computer aided sentence with no meaning, obviously pro globalisation.

  • tight ending lol

i take the maxon any day. sure they sound the same... but, placed infront of a tube amp, more preamp tube power usually sounds better than digital stuff..... at least with my experimentation.

    i love tube :)

  • very nice.. the line 6 is def. more compressed, and you get a cleaner sustain with the maxon... very nice licks btw

  • both sound good to me...

  • The great difference between analog v/s digital is: analog works with variations of voltage, it works with stimulations.

The digital answers to 0, 1... Instructions only.

  • the maxon sounds slightly better but i think in a full band mix or at a gig, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference. EXCELLENT VIDEO!

  • great playin dude

  • Nice job. LOVE THE ENDING!! What kid of board case is that?

  • bueno, ambos suenan bastante bien, la m13 a pesar de ser digital suena bastante decente ideal para tocadas

  • to be honest i cant tell a difference they both sound the same and good??

    Great Playing!

  • The Maxon sounds a tad bassier, got it? But you know what? That helps killing forever the fight between digital and analog. There are good digital sounds and bad analog ones. Though they are not synonyms. GREAT video.

  • wow i love the fucken clicky sound from the maxon

  • Maxon is better than line 6 , real organic drive and more dinamics, you can control your sound and you can hear the click of picking ,but line 6 drive is great !!!

  • awesome. check out my m13 vids-I demo a couple of the drive models

  • how thin sound on the

    line 6 whatever

  • then M13 is difgital?

  • M13 is digital

  • i like the line 6 better

  • the m13 drives are very impressive to me. especially compared to the drives on other multis

  • Thanks for this Awesome Video!!!

    Cheers!

    ElMontu

  • What pedal board is your gear mounted to? I just got an M13 and I love the way your gear fits on that board. Which board is it so I can go buy one?

  • CNB pedalboard )

  • cool demo - they sound very close to me!

  • Nice job- they sound very close huh! Put it in the context of a gig, and I don't think anyone could tell them apart....

  • Блин как бы не получилось, что line6 поинтересней тут звучит... )
